To the choirmaster: according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David. Help, LORD; for there is no longer any that is godly; for the faithful have vanished from among the sons of men.1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David. How long, O Lord? Will you forget me until the end? How long will you turn your face away from me?
Every one utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.2 How long can I take counsel in my soul, sorrowing in my heart throughout the day?
May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts,3 How long will my enemy be exalted over me?
those who say, "With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is our master?"4 Look upon me and listen to me, O Lord my God. Enlighten my eyes, lest I fall asleep forever in death,
"Because the poor are despoiled, because the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD; "I will place him in the safety for which he longs."5 lest at any time my enemy may say, “I have prevailed against him.” Those who trouble me will exult, if I have been disturbed.
The promises of the LORD are promises that are pure, silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.6 But I have hoped in your mercy. My heart will exult in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, who assigns good things to me. And I will sing psalms to the name of the Lord Most High.
Do thou, O LORD, protect us, guard us ever from this generation.
On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
