1 And the LORD said to Job:	1 - Prese allora a parlare il Signore a Giobbe dalla procella e disse:
2 "Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it."	2 «Recingi pur da uomo [forte] i tuoi fianchi, io t'interrogherò e tu ammaestrami.
3 Then Job answered the LORD:	3 Renderai tu forse vano il mio diritto, e darai torto a me per aver te ragione?
4 "Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer thee? I lay my hand on my mouth.	4 E se hai un braccio come quello di Dio, e il tuono della tua voce è simile al suo,
5 I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further."	5 circondati d'eccellenza e lèvati in alto, sii glorioso e ammantati di magnifiche vesti:
6 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind:	6 disperdi nel tuo furore i superbi, e ogni altiero che tu veda umilialo:
7 "Gird up your loins like a man; I will question you, and you declare to me.	7 volgi lo sguardo su tutti i superbi e confondili, e infrangi gli empii là ove si trovano;
8 Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be justified?	8 nascondili insieme nella polvere, e nella fossa immergi i loro volti;
9 Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?	9 allora anch'io riconosceròche la tua destra ti può salvare!
10 "Deck yourself with majesty and dignity; clothe yourself with glory and splendor.	10 Ecco Behemoth, che io ho fatto insieme con te: erba come un bove esso mangia;
11 Pour forth the overflowings of your anger, and look on every one that is proud, and abase him.	11 la sua forza sta nei suoi fianchi, la sua vigoria nell'ombelico del suo ventre.
12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked where they stand.	12 Indura esso la sua coda come un cedro, i tendini delle sue cosce sono avviluppati;
13 Hide them all in the dust together; bind their faces in the world below.	13 le sue ossa sono come canne di bronzo, la sua cartilagine come lamine di ferro.
14 Then will I also acknowledge to you, that your own right hand can give you victory.	14 Esso è il primo dei prodotti di Dio; chi lo ha fatto, lo domina con la sua spada.
15 "Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox.	15 Ad esso i monti forniscono le erbe, là ove scherzano tutte le bestie del campo.
16 Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly.	16 Sotto l'ombra esso dorme, nell'interno dei canneti e nei luoghi paludosi;
17 He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together.	17 lo ricoprono i loti con la loro ombra, e lo circondano i salici da torrente.
18 His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron.	18 Ecco, esso tracanna un fiume senza scomporsi, e rimane tranquillo anche se il Giordano irrompa contro il suo muso.
19 "He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword!	19 Chi mai potrà abbrancarlo tra le occhiaie con un amo, e con lesine forerà le sue narici?
20 For the mountains yield food for him where all the wild beasts play.	20 Forse potrai estrarre con l'amo Leviathan, e con una fune legherai tu la sua lingua?
21 Under the lotus plants he lies, in the covert of the reeds and in the marsh.	21 Metterai tu forse un anello alle sue narici, e con un gancio gli bucherai la mascella?
22 For his shade the lotus trees cover him; the willows of the brook surround him.	22 Si metterà esso forse con insistenza a pregarti, ovvero ti rivolgerà parole tenere?
23 Behold, if the river is turbulent he is not frightened; he is confident though Jordan rushes against his mouth.	23 Stringerà forse con te un patto, perchè tu lo prenda qual servo per sempre?
24 Can one take him with hooks, or pierce his nose with a snare?	24 Giocheresti forse con lui come con un uccello, o gli metteresti un laccio per [trastullar] le tue ancelle?
	25 Lo squarteranno forse i soci [della pesca], lo taglieranno i venditori [di pesce]?
	26 Potresti tu riempir le reti con la sua pelle, e il cesto dei pesci con la sua testa?
	27 Mettigli la tua mano addosso: preparati alla guerra, e non parlar più!
	28 Infatti, la speranza di chi [gli dà la caccia] rimane delusa, perchè sotto gli occhi di tutti costui sarà atterrato.
