Nehemiah 6

1 Now when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah and to Geshem the Arab and to the rest of our enemies that I had built the wall and that there was no breach left in it (although up to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates),	1 Or quando Sanaballat, Tobia e Gossem Arabo e gli altri nostri nemici ebbero udito che io aveva riedificate le mura e che non vi restava breccia alcuna (allora però non avevo ancor messi i battenti alle porte),
2 Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, "Come and let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono." But they intended to do me harm.	2 Sanaballat e Gossem mi mandarono a dire: « Vieni, che facciamo insieme alleanza nei villaggi della campagna di Ono », pensando però a farmi dei male.
3 And I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?"	3 Ma io inviai dei messi a dire: « Ho tra le mani un gran lavoro e non posso venire col timore che venga, trascurato mentre vengo e scendo a voi ».
4 And they sent to me four times in this way and I answered them in the same manner.	4 Essi mi mandarono a dire la stessa cosa per ben quattro volte; ma io diedi loro la medesima risposta.
5 In the same way Sanballat for the fifth time sent his servant to me with an open letter in his hand.	5 Allora Sanaballat mi mandò a dire per la quinta volta le medesime cose ed un suo servo con una lettera di questo tenore:
6 In it was written, "It is reported among the nations, and Geshem also says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel; that is why you are building the wall; and you wish to become their king, according to this report.	6 « Si è divulgato tra le genti, e Gossem l'afferma, che tu e i Giudei meditate di ribellarvi e che perciò tu rialzi le mura, e che vuoi innalzarti fino ad essere loro re e che a questo fine
7 And you have also set up prophets to proclaim concerning you in Jerusalem, 'There is a king in Judah.' And now it will be reported to the king according to these words. So now come, and let us take counsel together."	7 hai stabilito dei profeti che ti proclamino in Gerusalemme col dire: Vi è un re nella Giudea. Queste cose il re verrà a saperle: or dunque vieni e consigliamoci insieme ».
8 Then I sent to him, saying, "No such things as you say have been done, for you are inventing them out of your own mind."	8 Ma io gli mandai a dire: « La cosa non sta come tu dici: son cose che te le cavi dalla testa ».
9 For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, "Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done." But now, O God, strengthen thou my hands.	9 Or tutti questi tentavano di impaurirci, pensando che le nostre mani avrebbero cessato di lavorare e che noi ci riposeremmo; ma appunto per questo presi maggior vigore nel fare.
10 Now when I went into the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, who was shut up, he said, "Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple; for they are coming to kill you, at night they are coming to kill you."	10 Essendo io entrato di nascosto nella, casa di Semata figlio di Palaia figlio di Metabeel, egli disse: « Trattiamo assieme nella casa di Dio, nel mezzo del tempio, e chiudendone le porte, perchè devono venire a ucciderti, devon venire di notte a darti la morte».
11 But I said, "Should such a man as I flee? And what man such as I could go into the temple and live? I will not go in."	11 Ma io risposi: «Un uomo come me si dà alla fuga? Un uomo qual sono io potrebbe entrare nel tempio e vivere? Io non v'entrerò ».
12 And I understood, and saw that God had not sent him, but he had pronounced the prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.	12 Avevo ben compreso che non l'aveva mandato Dio. che m'aveva parlato come fosse un profeta, ma che Tobia e Sanaballat l'avevan comprato:
13 For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me an evil name, in order to taunt me.	13 egli infatti era stato pagato per atterrirmi e farmi peccare, perchè essi avessero qualche male da rimproverarmi.
14 Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, according to these things that they did, and also the prophetess No-adiah and the rest of the prophets who wanted to make me afraid.	14 Ricordati di me, o Signore, riguarda a queste opere di Tobia e di Sanaballat, e ricordati anche di Noadia profeta e degli altri profeti che tentavano spaventami
15 So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days.	15 Or le mura furono terminate ai venticinque del mese di Elul, in cinquentadue giorni;
16 And when all our enemies heard of it, all the nations round about us were afraid and fell greatly in their own esteem; for they perceived that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God.	16 e quando tutti i nostri nemici l'ebbero saputo, tutte le nazioni circonvicine si intimorirono e si scoraggiarono, riconoscendo che questa opera era stata fatta da Dio.
17 Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and Tobiah's letters came to them.	17 Però in quei giorni molte lettere i magnati Giudei mandavano a Tobia e da lui ne ricevevano;
18 For many in Judah were bound by oath to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah: and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah as his wife.	18 perchè molti in Giudea gli avevan prestato giuramento, essendo egli genero di Sechenia figlio di Arem e avendo il suo figlio Iohanan sposata la figlia di Mosollam figlio di Barachia.
19 Also they spoke of his good deeds in my presence, and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to make me afraid.	19 Essi di più lo lodavano anche in mia presenza, e gli riferivano le mie parole: e Tobia scriveva lettere per atterrirmi.
