1 For three years Syria and Israel continued without war.	1 Ainsi trois ans se passèrent sans qu'il y eût guerre entre la Syrie et Israël.
2 But in the third year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.	2 Mais, la troisième année, Josaphat, roi de Juda, vint trouver le roi d'Israël.
3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, "Do you know that Ramoth-gilead belongs to us, and we keep quiet and do not take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?"	3 Et le roi d'Israël dit à ses serviteurs : Ignorez-vous que la ville de Ramoth-Galaad est à nous? et cependant nous négligeons de la retirer des mains du roi de Syrie?
4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?" And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."	4 Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Viendrez-vous attaquer avec moi Ramoth-Galaad?
5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "Inquire first for the word of the LORD."	5 Josaphat répondit au roi d'Israël : Disposez de moi comme de vous-même. Mon peuple et votre peuple n'en font qu'un, et ma cavalerie est votre cavalerie. Et il dit encore au roi d'Israël : Consultez aujourd'hui, je vous prie, la volonté du Seigneur.
6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I forbear?" And they said, "Go up; for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king."	6 Le roi d'Israël assembla donc ses prophères, qui se trouvèrent environ quatre cents, et il leur dit : Dois-je aller attaquer Ramoth-Galaad, ou me tenir en paix? Ils lui répondirent : Montez, et le Seigneur livrera la ville entre les mains du roi.
7 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here another prophet of the LORD of whom we may inquire?"	7 Josaphat lui dit : N'y a-t-il pas ici quelque prophète du Seigneur, afin que nous Le consultions par lui?
8 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but evil." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so."	8 Le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat : Il est demeuré un homme par qui nous pouvons consulter le Seigneur; mais je hais cet homme, parce qu'il ne me prophétise jamais rien de bon, mais toujours du mal. C'est Michée, fils de Jemla. Josaphat lui répondit : O roi, ne parlez point ainsi.
9 Then the king of Israel summoned an officer and said, "Bring quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah."	9 Le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque, et lui dit : Hâte-toi d'amener Michée fils de Jemla.
10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting on their thrones, arrayed in their robes, at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.	10 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient dans l'aire, près de la porte de Samarie, assis chacun sur leur trône, revêtus de leurs habits royaux, et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.
11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made for himself horns of iron, and said, "Thus says the LORD, 'With these you shall push the Syrians until they are destroyed.'"	11 Or Sédécias, fils de Chanaana, se fit des cornes de fer, et il dit : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Avec ces cornes vous agiterez la Syrie jusqu'à ce que vous l'ayez détruite.
12 And all the prophets prophesied so, and said, "Go up to Ramoth-gilead and triumph; the LORD will give it into the hand of the king."	12 Tous les prophètes prophétisaient de même et disaient : Montez contre Ramoth-Galaad, et marchez heureusement, et le Seigneur la livrera entre les mains du roi.
13 And the messenger who went to summon Micaiah said to him, "Behold, the words of the prophets with one accord are favorable to the king; let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably."	13 Celui qu'on avait envoyé pour faire venir Michée lui dit : Voici que les prophètes prédisent d'une voix unanime un bon succès au roi; que vos paroles soient donc semblables aux leurs, et annoncez du bien.
14 But Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, what the LORD says to me, that I will speak."	14 Michée lui répondit : Vive le Seigneur, je ne dirai que ce que le Seigneur m'aura dit.
15 And when he had come to the king, the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?" And he answered him, "Go up and triumph; the LORD will give it into the hand of the king."	15 Michée se présenta donc devant le roi, et le roi lui dit : Michée, devons-nous aller attaquer Ramoth-Galaad, ou demeurer en paix? Michée lui répondit : Allez, marchez heureusement, et le Seigneur la livrera entre les mains du roi.
16 But the king said to him, "How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?"	16 Le roi ajouta : Je vous conjure encore et encore, au nom du Seigneur, de ne me parler que selon la vérité.
17 And he said, "I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd; and the LORD said, 'These have no master; let each return to his home in peace.'"	17 Michée lui dit : J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé dans les montagnes comme des brebis qui n'ont point de pasteur; et le Seigneur m'a dit : Ils n'ont point de chef; que chacun retourne en paix dans sa maison.
18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?"	18 Aussitôt le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Ne vous ai-je pas dit que cet homme ne me prophétise jamais rien de bon, mais toujours du mal?
19 And Micaiah said, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing beside him on his right hand and on his left;	19 Et Michée ajouta : Ecoutez la parole du Seigneur. J'ai vu le Seigneur assis sur Son trône, et toute l'armée du Ciel debout autour de Lui et à droite et à gauche.
20 and the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said one thing, and another said another.	20 Et le Seigneur a dit : Qui séduira Achab, roi d'Israël, afin qu'il marche contre Ramoth-Galaad, et qu'il y périsse? Et l'un fit cette réponse, et l'autre cette autre.
21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, saying, 'I will entice him.'	21 Mais l'esprit s'avança, et se présentant devant le Seigneur, il lui dit : C'est moi qui séduirai Achab. Le Seigneur lui dit : Et comment?
22 And the LORD said to him, 'By what means?' And he said, 'I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he said, 'You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go forth and do so.'	22 Il répondit : J'irai, et je serai un esprit menteur dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Et le Seigneur lui dit : Vous le séduirez, et vous aurez l'avantage sur lui. Allez, et faites comme vous dites.
23 Now therefore behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; the LORD has spoken evil concerning you."	23 Maintenant donc, le Seigneur a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous vos prophètes qui sont ici, et le Seigneur a prononcé votre arrêt.
24 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "How did the Spirit of the LORD go from me to speak to you?"	24 Alors Sédécias, fils de Chanaana, s'approcha de Michée, et lui donna un soufflet sur la joue, et lui dit : L'esprit du Seigneur m'a-t-il donc quitté, et n'a-t-il parlé qu'à vous?
25 And Micaiah said, "Behold, you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide yourself."	25 Michée lui dit : Vous le verrez au jour où vous passerez d'une chambre dans une autre chambre pour vous cacher.
26 And the king of Israel said, "Seize Micaiah, and take him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king's son;	26 Alors le roi d'Israël dit à ses gens : Prenez Michée, et qu'on le mène chez Amon, gouverneur de la ville, et chez Joas, fils d'Amélec;
27 and say, 'Thus says the king, "Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with scant fare of bread and water, until I come in peace."'"	27 et dites-leur : Voici ce que le roi a ordonné : Renfermez cet homme dans la prison, et qu'on le nourrisse de pain de douleur et d'eau d'affliction, jusqu'à ce que je revienne en paix.
28 And Micaiah said, "If you return in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me." And he said, "Hear, all you peoples!"	28 Michée lui dit : Si vous revenez en paix, le Seigneur n'a point parlé par moi. Et il ajouta : Que tout le monde entende!
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.	29 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, marchèrent donc contre Ramoth-Galaad.
30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your robes." And the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.	30 Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : Prenez vos armes, et combattez avec vos vêtements ordinaires. Mais le roi d'Israël se déguisa avant de marcher au combat.
31 Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, "Fight with neither small nor great, but only with the king of Israel."	31 Or le roi de Syrie avait donné cet ordre aux trente-deux capitaines de ses chars : Ne combattez contre qui que ce soi, petit ou grand; n'attaquez que le seul roi d'Israël.
32 And when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, "It is surely the king of Israel." So they turned to fight against him; and Jehoshaphat cried out.	32 Lors donc que les capitaines des chars eurent vu Josaphat, ils s'imaginèrent que c'était le roi d'Israël, et ayant fondu sur lui, ils le combattaient. Alors Josaphat jeta un grand cri.
33 And when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.	33 Et les capitaines des chars reconnurent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, et ne le pressèrent pas davantage.
34 But a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and struck the king of Israel between the scale armor and the breastplate; therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn about, and carry me out of the battle, for I am wounded."	34 Il arriva cependant qu'un homme, ayant tendu son arc, tira une flèche au hasard, et elle vit percer le roi d'Israël entre le poumon et l'estomac. Il dit aussitôt à son cocher : Tourne bride et retire-moi du milieu des troupes, car je suis grièvement blessé.
35 And the battle grew hot that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, until at evening he died; and the blood of the wound flowed into the bottom of the chariot.	35 Or le combat dura tout le jour, et le roi d'Israël demeura dans son char en face des Syriens. Le sang coulait de sa plaie dans l'intérieur de son char; et il mourut le soir.
36 And about sunset a cry went through the army, "Every man to his city, and every man to his country!"	36 Avant que le soleil fût couché, un héraut sonna de la trompette dans toute l'armée, et dit : Que chacun retourne dans sa ville et dans son pays.
37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.	37 Le roi mourut donc et fut porté à Samarie, où il fut enseveli.
38 And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and the harlots washed themselves in it, according to the word of the LORD which he had spoken.	38 On lava son char et les rênes dans la piscine de Samarie, et les chiens léchèrent son sang, selon la parole que le Seigneur avait prononcée.
39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?	39 Le reste des actions d'Achab, et tout ce qu'il fit, la maison d'ivoire qu'il bâtit, et toutes les villes qu'il construisit, tout cela est écrit au livre des annales des rois d'Israël.
40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.	40 Achab s'endormit donc avec ses pères, et Ochozias son fils régna à sa place.
41 Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.	41 Or Josaphat, fils d'Asa, avait commencé à régner sur Juda la quatrième année d'Achab, roi d'Israël.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.	42 Il avait trente-cinq ans lorsqu'il commença à régner, et il régna vingt-cinq ans dans Jérusalem; sa mère s'appelait Azuba, fille de Salaï.
43 He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the LORD; yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.	43 Il marcha dans toutes les voies d'Asa son père, sans se détourner, et il fit ce qui était droit devant le Seigneur.
44 Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.	44 Néanmoins il ne détruisit pas les hauts lieux; car le peuple y sacrifiait encore et y brûlait de l'encens.
45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?	45 Josaphat eut la paix avec le roi d'Israël.
46 And the remnant of the male cult prostitutes who remained in the days of his father Asa, he exterminated from the land.	46 Le reste des actions de Josaphat, tout ce qu'il fit, avec ses combats, est écrit au livre des annales des rois de Juda.
47 There was no king in Edom; a deputy was king.	47 Il extermina aussi du pays les restes des efféminés qui y étaient demeurés pendant le règne d'Asa son père.
48 Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold; but they did not go, for the ships were wrecked at Ezion-geber.	48 Et il n'y avait point alors de roi établi dans Edom.
49 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Let my servants go with your servants in the ships," but Jehoshaphat was not willing.	49 Le roi Josaphat avait fait faire une flotte sur la mer, afin qu'elle fît voile vers Ophir pour en apporter de l'or. Mais ses vaisseaux ne purent y aller, parce qu'ils furent brisés à Asion-Gaber.
50 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.	50 Alors Ochozias, fils d'Achab, dit à Josaphat : Que mes serviteurs aillent en mer avec les vôtres. Mais Josaphat ne voulut pas.
51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.	51 Josaphat s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli avec eux dans la ville de David son père; et Joram son fils régna à sa place.
52 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.	52 Ochozias, fils d'Achab, avait commencé à régner sur Israël dans Samarie la dix-septième année de Josaphat, roi de Juda, et il régna deux ans sur Israël.
53 He served Baal and worshiped him, and provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger in every way that his father had done.	53 Et il fit le mal devant le Seigneur, et il marcha dans la voie de son père et de sa mère, et dans la voie de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël.
	54 Il servit aussi Baal et l'adora; et il irrita le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël par toutes les choses que son pére avait faites.
