1 Now Absalom, David's son, had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar; and after a time Amnon, David's son, loved her.	1 Un tiempo después, sucedió lo siguiente. Absalón, hijo de David, tenía una hermana muy hermosa, llamada Tamar, y Amnón, hijo de David, se enamoró de ella.
2 And Amnon was so tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her.	2 Era tal su ansiedad, que llegó a enfermarse a causa de su hermanastra Tamar, porque como la joven era virgen, a Amnón le parecía imposible llevar a cabo algo con ella.
3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shime-ah, David's brother; and Jonadab was a very crafty man.	3 Amnón tenía un amigo llamado Jonadab, hijo de Simeá, hermano de David. Este hombre era muy perspicaz,
4 And he said to him, "O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me?" Amnon said to him, "I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister."	4 y dijo a Amnón: «¿Qué te pasa, príncipe, que cada día estás más deprimido? ¿No me lo vas a contar?». Amnón le respondió: «Es por Tamar, la hermana de mi hermano Absalón. Estoy enamorado de ella».
5 Jonadab said to him, "Lie down on your bed, and pretend to be ill; and when your father comes to see you, say to him, 'Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand.'"	5 Entonces Jonadab le dijo: «Acuéstate como si estuvieras enfermo, y cuando tu padre venga a verte, tú le dirás: «Deja que mi hermana Tamar venga a darme de comer; que prepare la comida en mi presencia, de manera que yo pueda ver, y que me la sirva ella misma».
6 So Amnon lay down, and pretended to be ill; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, "Pray let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand."	6 Amnón se acostó, fingiendo estar enfermo y cuando el rey fue a verlo, Amnón le dijo: «Por favor, que venga mi hermana Tamar a cocinar aquí mismo un par de buñuelos, y que me los sirva con sus propias manos».
7 Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, "Go to your brother Amnon's house, and prepare food for him."	7 David mandó a decir a Tamar: «Ve a la casa de tu hermano Amnón y prepárale la comida».
8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house, where he was lying down. And she took dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.	8 Tamar fue a la casa de hermano Amnón, que estaba acostado. Tomó la harina, la amasó, preparó los buñuelos a la vista de él, y los hizo cocer.
9 And she took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, "Send out every one from me." So every one went out from him.	9 Luego retiró la sartén y la vació delante de él, pero él se negó a comer, y ordenó: «¡Hagan salir a todos de mi presencia!». Cuando salieron todos,
10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from your hand." And Tamar took the cakes she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.	10 Amnón dijo a Tamar: «Tráeme la comida a la habitación y dame tú misma de comer». Tamar tomó los buñuelos que había preparado y los llevó a la habitación donde estaba su hermano Amnón.
11 But when she brought them near him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, "Come, lie with me, my sister."	11 Pero cuando se los acercó para que comiera, él la agarró y le dijo: «¡Ven, acuéstate conmigo, hermana!».
12 She answered him, "No, my brother, do not force me; for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this wanton folly.	12 «¡No, hermano, replicó Tamar, no trates de forzarme, porque eso no se hace en Israel! ¡No cometas esa infamia!
13 As for me, where could I carry my shame? And as for you, you would be as one of the wanton fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you."	13 ¿A dónde iría yo con mi deshonra? En cuanto a ti, ¡quedarías como un infame en Israel! Por favor, habla con el rey, y él no se opondrá a que seas mi esposo».
14 But he would not listen to her; and being stronger than she, he forced her, and lay with her.	14 Pero Amnón no quiso escucharla, sino que la tomó por la fuerza y se acostó con ella.
15 Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone."	15 En seguida, Amnón sintió hacia ella un odio terrible, más fuerte aún que el amor con que la había amado. Entonces le dijo: «¡Levántate y vete!».
16 But she said to him, "No, my brother; for this wrong in sending me away is greater than the other which you did to me." But he would not listen to her.	16 Ella le respondió: «No, hermano; echarme ahora sería una maldad peor que la otra que has hecho conmigo». Pero él no quiso hacerle caso;
17 He called the young man who served him and said, "Put this woman out of my presence, and bolt the door after her."	17 llamó al joven que lo servía y ordenó: «¡Echenme a esta a la calle, y atranca la puerta detrás de ella!».
18 Now she was wearing a long robe with sleeves; for thus were the virgin daughters of the king clad of old. So his servant put her out, and bolted the door after her.	18 Tamar llevaba una túnica de mangas largas, porque así vestían entonces las hijas del rey, cuando eran vírgenes. El sirviente la sacó afuera y atrancó la puerta detrás de ella.
19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent the long robe which she wore; and she laid her hand on her head, and went away, crying aloud as she went.	19 Tamar se cubrió la cabeza con ceniza, desgarró su túnica de mangas largas y poniéndose las manos sobre la cabeza, se fue gritando.
20 And her brother Absalom said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? Now hold your peace, my sister; he is your brother; do not take this to heart." So Tamar dwelt, a desolate woman, in her brother Absalom's house.	20 Su hermano Absalón le dijo: «¿Fue tu hermano Amnón el que estuvo contigo? Ahora, hermana, no hables más de esto. El es tu hermano, no tomes la cosa tan a pecho». Y Tamar se quedó desolada en casa de su hermano Absalón.
21 When King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.	21 Cuando el rey David se enteró de lo sucedido, se indignó profundamente.
22 But Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.	22 Absalón, por su parte, no le dirigió más la palabra a Amnón, debido al rencor que le tenía por haber violado a su hermana Tamar.
23 After two full years Absalom had sheepshearers at Baal-hazor, which is near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king's sons.	23 Dos años más tarde, se hacía la esquila para Absalón en Baal Jasor, que está cerca de Efraím, y él invitó a todos los hijos del rey.
24 And Absalom came to the king, and said, "Behold, your servant has sheepshearers; pray let the king and his servants go with your servant."	24 Absalón se presentó al rey y le dijo: «Tu servidor está esquilando las ovejas. Háganme el honor de venir conmigo el rey y sus servidores».
25 But the king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to you." He pressed him, but he would not go but gave him his blessing.	25 El rey respondió a Absalón: «No, hijo mío, no vamos a ir todos a ponerte en gastos». El le insistió, pero David no quiso ir y lo despidió con su bendición.
26 Then Absalom said, "If not, pray let my brother Amnon go with us." And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you?"	26 Entonces Absalón dijo: «Permite al menos que venga con nosotros mi hermano Amnón». «¿Para qué va a ir contigo?», repuso David.
27 But Absalom pressed him until he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.	27 Pero Absalón le insistió tanto, que David dejó partir con él a Amnón y a todos los hijos del rey. Absalón preparó un regio banquete,
28 Then Absalom commanded his servants, "Mark when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, 'Strike Amnon,' then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant."	28 y dio esta orden a sus servidores: «¡Fíjense bien! Cuando Amnón se haya puesto alegre con el vino y yo les diga: «Hieran a Amnón», ustedes lo matarán. No tengan miedo, porque soy yo el que lo ordeno. ¡Tengan ánimo y sean valientes!».
29 So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and each mounted his mule and fled.	29 Los servidores hicieron a Amnón lo que Absalón les había ordenado. Entonces todos los hijos de rey se levantaron, montaron cada uno en su mula y huyeron.
30 While they were on the way, tidings came to David, "Absalom has slain all the king's sons, and not one of them is left."	30 Cuando todavía estaban en camino, David recibió esta noticia: «Absalón ha matado a todos los hijos del rey; no ha quedado ni uso solo».
31 Then the king arose, and rent his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants who were standing by rent their garments.	31 El rey se levantó, rasgó sus vestiduras y se acostó en el suelo, mientras todos sus servidores permanecían de pie, con las ropas desgarradas.
32 But Jonadab the son of Shime-ah, David's brother, said, "Let not my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men the king's sons, for Amnon alone is dead, for by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day he forced his sister Tamar.	32 Pero Jonadab, hijo de Simeá, hermano de David, tomó la palabra y dijo: «Que mi señor no diga que han matado a todos los jóvenes hijos del rey. Sólo ha muerto Amnón, porque Absalón ya había pronunciado la sentencia desde el día en que aquel violó a su hermana Tamar.
33 Now therefore let not my lord the king so take it to heart as to suppose that all the king's sons are dead; for Amnon alone is dead."	33 Que mi señor el rey no se preocupe ahora, pensando que han muerto todos los hijos del rey. No, sólo Amnón ha muerto,
34 But Absalom fled. And the young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, many people were coming from the Horonaim road by the side of the mountain.	34 y Absalón ha huido». El joven que estaba de centinela alzó los ojos, y vio avanzar un gran gentío por el camino que estaba detrás de él, sobre la ladera de la montaña.
35 And Jonadab said to the king, "Behold, the king's sons have come; as your servant said, so it has come about."	35 Entonces Jonadab dijo al rey: «Ahí llegan los hijos del rey, tal como tu servidor lo había dicho».
36 And as soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept; and the king also and all his servants wept very bitterly.	36 Apenas terminó de hablar, entraron los hijos del rey y se pusieron a llorar a gritos. También el rey y todos sus servidores derramaron abundantes lágrimas.
37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son day after day.	37 En cuanto a Absalón, fue a refugiarse junto a Talmai, hijo de Amijur, rey de Guesur. Y el rey estuvo de duelo por su hijo todo aquel tiempo.
38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.	38 Absalón, que había ido a refugiarse en Guesur, estuvo allí tres años.
39 And the spirit of the king longed to go forth to Absalom; for he was comforted about Amnon, seeing he was dead.	39 Mientras tanto, a David se le pasó su enojo contra Absalón, porque se había consolado de la muerte de Amnón.
