1 After two whole years, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing by the Nile,	1 Dos años después, el Faraón tuvo un sueño: él estaba de pie junto al Nilo,
2 and behold, there came up out of the Nile seven cows sleek and fat, and they fed in the reed grass.	2 cuando de pronto subieron del río siete vacas hermosas y robustas, que se pusieron a pastar entre los juncos.
3 And behold, seven other cows, gaunt and thin, came up out of the Nile after them, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the Nile.	3 Detrás de ella subieron otras siete vacas feas y escuálidas, que se pararon al lado de las primeras;
4 And the gaunt and thin cows ate up the seven sleek and fat cows. And Pharaoh awoke.	4 y las vacas feas y escuálidas se comieron a las siete vacas hermosas y robustas. En seguida el Faraón se despertó.
5 And he fell asleep and dreamed a second time; and behold, seven ears of grain, plump and good, were growing on one stalk.	5 Luego volvió a dormirse y tuvo otro sueño: siete espigas grandes y lozanas salían de un mismo tallo.
6 And behold, after them sprouted seven ears, thin and blighted by the east wind.	6 Pero inmediatamente después brotaron otras siete espigas, delgadas y quemadas por el viento del este;
7 And the thin ears swallowed up the seven plump and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.	7 y las espigas delgadas devoraron a las siete espigas grandes y cargadas de granos. Cuando se despertó, el Faraón se dio cuenta de que había estado soñando.
8 So in the morning his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men; and Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was none who could interpret it to Pharaoh.	8 A la mañana siguiente, el Faraón se sintió muy preocupado y mandó llamar a todos los magos y sabios de Egipto, para contarles sus sueños. Pero nadie se los pudo interpretar.
9 Then the chief butler said to Pharaoh, "I remember my faults today.	9 Entonces el copero mayor se dirigió al Faraón y le dijo: «Ahora reconozco mi negligencia.
10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me and the chief baker in custody in the house of the captain of the guard,	10 En cierta oportunidad, el Faraón se irritó contra sus servidores, y me puso bajo custodia, junto con el panadero mayor, en la casa del capitán de guardias.
11 we dreamed on the same night, he and I, each having a dream with its own meaning.	11 El y yo tuvimos un sueño en el transcurso de una misma noche, cada sueño con su propio significado.
12 A young Hebrew was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard; and when we told him, he interpreted our dreams to us, giving an interpretation to each man according to his dream.	12 Con nosotros estaba un joven hebreo, un servidor del capitán de guardias; nosotros le contamos nuestros sueños, y él los interpretó, dando a cada uno su explicación.
13 And as he interpreted to us, so it came to pass; I was restored to my office, and the baker was hanged."	13 Y todo sucedió como él lo había interpretado: yo fui restituido a mi cargo, mientras que el otro fue ahorcado».
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and when he had shaved himself and changed his clothes, he came in before Pharaoh.	14 El Faraón mandó llamar a José, que sin pérdida de tiempo fue sacado de la prisión. Este se afeitó, se cambió de ropa y compareció ante el Faraón.
15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it; and I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it."	15 El Faraón dijo a José: «He tenido un sueño que nadie puede interpretar. Pero me han informado que te basta oír un sueño para interpretarlo».
16 Joseph answered Pharaoh, "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer."	16 José respondió al Faraón: «No soy yo, sino Dios, el que dará al Faraón la respuesta conveniente».
17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Behold, in my dream I was standing on the banks of the Nile;	17 Entonces el Faraón dijo a José: «Soñé que estaba parado a orilla del Nilo,
18 and seven cows, fat and sleek, came up out of the Nile and fed in the reed grass;	18 y de pronto subían del río siete vacas robustas y hermosas, que se pusieron a pastar entre los juncos.
19 and seven other cows came up after them, poor and very gaunt and thin, such as I had never seen in all the land of Egypt.	19 Detrás de ellas subieron otras siete vacas, escuálidas, de aspecto horrible y esqueléticas, como nunca había visto en todo el territorio de Egipto.
20 And the thin and gaunt cows ate up the first seven fat cows,	20 Y las vacas escuálidas y feas devoraron a las otras siete vacas robustas.
21 but when they had eaten them no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were still as gaunt as at the beginning. Then I awoke.	21 Pero una vez que las comieron, nadie hubiera dicho que las tenían en su vientre, porque seguían tan horribles como antes. En seguida me desperté.
22 I also saw in my dream seven ears growing on one stalk, full and good;	22 En el otro sueño, vi siete espigas hermosas y cargadas de granos, que brotaban de un mismo tallo.
23 and seven ears, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprouted after them,	23 Después de ellas brotaron otras siete espigas, marchitas, delgadas y quemadas por el viento del este,
24 and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me."	24 que devoraron a las siete espigas hermosas. Yo he contado todo esto a los adivinos, pero ninguno me ha dado una explicación».
25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dream of Pharaoh is one; God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.	25 José dijo al Faraón: «El Faraón ha soñado una sola cosa, y así Dios le ha anunciado lo que está a punto de realizar.
26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.	26 Las siete vacas hermosas y las siete espigas lozanas representan siete años. Los dos sueños se tratan de lo mismo.
27 The seven lean and gaunt cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears blighted by the east wind are also seven years of famine.	27 Y las siete vacas escuálidas y feas que subieron después de ellas son siete años, lo mismo que las siete espigas sin grano y quemadas por el viento del este. Estos serán siete años de hambre.
28 It is as I told Pharaoh, God has shown to Pharaoh what he is about to do.	28 Es como lo acabo de decir al Faraón: Dios ha querido mostrarle lo que está a punto de realizar.
29 There will come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt,	29 En los próximos siete años habrá en todo Egipto una gran abundancia.
30 but after them there will arise seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; the famine will consume the land,	30 Pero inmediatamente después, sobrevendrán siete años de hambre, durante los cuales en Egipto no quedará ni el recuerdo de aquella abundancia, porque el hambre asolará al país.
31 and the plenty will be unknown in the land by reason of that famine which will follow, for it will be very grievous.	31 Entonces nadie sabrá lo que es la abundancia, a causa del hambre, que será muy intensa.
32 And the doubling of Pharaoh's dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.	32 El hecho de que el Faraón haya tenido dos veces el mismo sueño, significa que este asunto ya está resuelto de parte de Dios y que él lo va a ejecutar de inmediato.
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh select a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.	33 Por eso, es necesario que el Faraón busque un hombre prudente y sabio, y lo ponga al frente de todo Egipto.
34 Let Pharaoh proceed to appoint overseers over the land, and take the fifth part of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven plenteous years.	34 Además, el Faraón deberá establecer inspectores en todo el país y exigir a los egipcios la quinta parte de las cosechas durante los siete años de abundancia.
35 And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming, and lay up grain under the authority of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.	35 Ellos reunirán los víveres que se cosechen en estos próximos siete años de prosperidad, y almacenarán el grano bajo la supervisión del Faraón, para tenerlo guardado en las ciudades.
36 That food shall be a reserve for the land against the seven years of famine which are to befall the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish through the famine."	36 Así el país tendrá una reserva de alimentos para los siete años de hambre que vendrán sobre Egipto, y no morirá de inanición.
37 This proposal seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his servants.	37 La respuesta agradó al Faraón y a todos sus servidores.
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a man as this, in whom is the Spirit of God?"	38 Por eso el Faraón les dijo a estos: «¿Podemos encontrar otro hombre que tenga en igual medida el espíritu de Dios?».
39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you are;	39 Y dirigiéndose a José, le expresó: «Ya que Dios te ha hecho conocer todas estas cosas, no hay nadie que sea tan prudente y sabio como tú.
40 you shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command; only as regards the throne will I be greater than you."	40 Por eso tú estarás al frente de mi palacio, y todo mi pueblo tendrá que acatar tus órdenes. Sólo por el trono real seré superior a ti».
41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."	41 Y el Faraón siguió diciendo a José: «Ahora mismo te pongo al frente de todo el territorio de Egipto».
42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in garments of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;	42 En seguida se quitó el anillo de su mano y lo puso en la mano de José; lo hizo vestir con ropa de lino fino y le colgó al cuello una cadena de oro.
43 and he made him to ride in his second chariot; and they cried before him, "Bow the knee!" Thus he set him over all the land of Egypt.	43 Luego lo hizo subir a la mejor carroza después de la suya, e iban gritando delante de él: «¡Atención!» Así le dio autoridad sobre todo Egipto.
44 Moreover Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man shall lift up hand or foot in all the land of Egypt."	44 El Faraón dijo a José: «Yo soy el Faraón, pero nadie podrá mover una mano o un pie en todo el territorio de Egipto si tú no lo apruebas».
45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-paneah; and he gave him in marriage Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On. So Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.	45 Luego impuso a José el nombre de Safnat Panéaj, y le dio por esposa a Asnat, la hija de Potifera, sacerdote de la ciudad de On. Y José fue a recorrer el país de Egipto.
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went through all the land of Egypt.	46 Cuando se puso al servicio del Faraón, rey de Egipto, José tenía treinta años. José se alejó de la presencia del Faraón e hizo un recorrido por todo el territorio de Egipto.
47 During the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth abundantly,	47 Durante los siete años de abundancia, la tierra produjo copiosamente,
48 and he gathered up all the food of the seven years when there was plenty in the land of Egypt, and stored up food in the cities; he stored up in every city the food from the fields around it.	48 y él reunió todos los víveres recogidos en esos siete años y los almacenó en las ciudades, depositando en cada una de las cosechas de los campos vecinos.
49 And Joseph stored up grain in great abundance, like the sand of the sea, until he ceased to measure it, for it could not be measured.	49 De esa manera, José acumuló una enorme cantidad de cereales, tanto como la arena del mar, hasta tal punto que dejó de llevar un control, porque superaba toda medida.
50 Before the year of famine came, Joseph had two sons, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.	50 Antes que comenzaran los años de hambre, José tuvo dos hijos, que le dio Asnat, la hija de Potifera, el sacerdote de On.
51 Joseph called the name of the first-born Manasseh, "For," he said, "God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's house."	51 Al primero lo llamó Manasés, porque dijo: «Dios me ha hecho olvidar por completo mis penas y mi casa paterna».
52 The name of the second he called Ephraim, "For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction."	52 Y al segundo le puso el nombre de Efraím, diciendo: «Dios me ha hecho fecundo en la tierra de mi aflicción».
53 The seven years of plenty that prevailed in the land of Egypt came to an end;	53 Entonces terminaron los años en que Egipto gozó de abundancia,
54 and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.	54 y comenzaron los siete años de hambre, como José lo había anticipado. En todos los países se sufría hambre, pero en Egipto había alimentos.
55 When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do."	55 Cuando también los egipcios y el pueblo sintieron hambre, y el pueblo pidió a gritos al Faraón que le diera de comer, este respondió: «Vayan a ver a José y hagan lo que él les diga».
56 So when the famine had spread over all the land, Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.	56 Como el hambre se había extendido por todo el país, José abrió los graneros y distribuyó raciones a los egipcios, ya que el hambre se hacía cada vez más intensa.
57 Moreover, all the earth came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was severe over all the earth.	57 Y de todas partes iban a Egipto a comprar cereales a José, porque el hambre asolaba toda la tierra.
