1 After two whole years, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing by the Nile,	1 Due anni dopo Faraone ebbe un sogno. Parevagli di stare alla riva del fiume,
2 and behold, there came up out of the Nile seven cows sleek and fat, and they fed in the reed grass.	2 Dal quale uscivano sette vacche belle, e grasse formisura: e andavano a pascere nei luoghi palustri.
3 And behold, seven other cows, gaunt and thin, came up out of the Nile after them, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the Nile.	3 Altre sette ancora scappavan fuori del fiume, brutte, e rifinite per magrezza, e si pascevano sulla riva stessa del fiume, dov'era del verde:
4 And the gaunt and thin cows ate up the seven sleek and fat cows. And Pharaoh awoke.	4 E (queste) si divorarono quelle che erano mirabilmente belle, e di grassi corpi. E Faraone si risvegliò,
5 And he fell asleep and dreamed a second time; and behold, seven ears of grain, plump and good, were growing on one stalk.	5 Poi si raddormentò, e vide un altro sogno. Sette spighe si alzavano da un solo stelo piene e bellissime;
6 And behold, after them sprouted seven ears, thin and blighted by the east wind.	6 E altrettante nascean dipoi spighe sottili, e bruciacchiate dall'euro,
7 And the thin ears swallowed up the seven plump and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.	7 Le quali si divoravano tutte le prime sì belle. Svegliatosi Faraone dal sonno,
8 So in the morning his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men; and Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was none who could interpret it to Pharaoh.	8 E venuto la mattina, pieno di paura mandò a cercare tutti gl'indovini d'Egitto, e tutti i sapienti: e raunati che furono, raccontò il sogno; e non v'ebbe chi ne desse la spiegazione.
9 Then the chief butler said to Pharaoh, "I remember my faults today.	9 Allora finalmente il capo de' coppieri si ricordò, e disse: Confesso il mio fallo:
10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me and the chief baker in custody in the house of the captain of the guard,	10 Disgustato il re contro i suoi servi ordinò, che io, e il capo de' panattieri fossimo rinchiusi nella prigione del capitano delle milizie:
11 we dreamed on the same night, he and I, each having a dream with its own meaning.	11 Dove in una stessa notte ambedue vedemmo un sogno, che presagiva il futuro.
12 A young Hebrew was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard; and when we told him, he interpreted our dreams to us, giving an interpretation to each man according to his dream.	12 Eravi un giovinetto Ebreo, servo dello stesso capitano delle milizie: al quale avendo noi raccontati i sogni
13 And as he interpreted to us, so it came to pass; I was restored to my office, and the baker was hanged."	13 Ne udimmo l'interpretazione verificata da quel che è di poi avvenuto: perocché io fui restituito al mio impiego, e quegli fu appeso alla croce.
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and when he had shaved himself and changed his clothes, he came in before Pharaoh.	14 Subitamente per comando del re fu tratto di prigione Giuseppe: e fattolo radere, e cambiatogli il vestito, lo presentarono a lui.
15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it; and I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it."	15 E questi gli disse: Ho veduti de' sogni, e non ho chi gl'interpreti: ed ho sentito, che tu con gran saviezza li sai diciferare.
16 Joseph answered Pharaoh, "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer."	16 Rispose Giuseppe: Iddio senza di me risponderà favorevolmente a Faraone.
17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Behold, in my dream I was standing on the banks of the Nile;	17 Raccontò adunque Faraone quello che avea veduto: Pareami di stare sulla ripa del fiume,
18 and seven cows, fat and sleek, came up out of the Nile and fed in the reed grass;	18 E che dal fiume uscissero sette vacche belle formisura, e molto grasse: le quali pascendo ne' luoghi paludosi spuntavano l'erba verde:
19 and seven other cows came up after them, poor and very gaunt and thin, such as I had never seen in all the land of Egypt.	19 Quand'ecco dietro a queste venivano sette altre vacche tanto brutte e macilente, che mai le simili non ho vedute nella terra d'Egitto:
20 And the thin and gaunt cows ate up the first seven fat cows,	20 Le quali, divorato avendo, e consunto le prime,
21 but when they had eaten them no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were still as gaunt as at the beginning. Then I awoke.	21 Non diedero nissun segno d'esser satolle; ma erano abbattute come prima dalla magrezza e dallo squallore. Mi svegliai, e di nuovo fui oppresso dal sonno,
22 I also saw in my dream seven ears growing on one stalk, full and good;	22 E vidi questo sogno. Sette spighe spuntavano da un solo stelo, piene e bellissime.
23 and seven ears, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprouted after them,	23 Parimente altre sette sottili, e bruciacchiate dall'euro nascevano da un filo di paglia:
24 and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me."	24 Le quali divorarono le prime sì belle. Ho raccontato il sogno agl'indovini, e nissun v'ha, che lo spieghi.
25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dream of Pharaoh is one; God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.	25 Rispose Giuseppe: Uno è il sogno del re: Dio ha mostrato a Faraone quel che vuol fare.
26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.	26 Le sette vacche belle, e le sette spighe piene sono sette anni di abbondanza; e sono un sol senso.
27 The seven lean and gaunt cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears blighted by the east wind are also seven years of famine.	27 Parimente le sette vacche gracili e macilente, che vennero dietro a quelle, e le sette spighe sottili, e offese dal vento, che brucia, sono sette anni di futura carestia.
28 It is as I told Pharaoh, God has shown to Pharaoh what he is about to do.	28 E la cosa avrà effetto con quest'ordine.
29 There will come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt,	29 Ecco che verranno sette anni di grande fertilità per tutta la terra d'Egitto:
30 but after them there will arise seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; the famine will consume the land,	30 Dopo i quali saran sette altri anni di sterilità così grande, che andrà in obblio tutta la precedente abbondanza: perocché la fame devasterà tutta la terra,
31 and the plenty will be unknown in the land by reason of that famine which will follow, for it will be very grievous.	31 E la gran carestia assorbirà la grande abbondanza.
32 And the doubling of Pharaoh's dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.	32 L'aver poi tu veduto replicato sogno, che una stessa cosa significa, segno è questo, come la parola di Dio avrà sicuramente effetto, e senza dilazione si adempirà.
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh select a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.	33 Scelga adunque adesso il re un uomo saggio, e attivo, e diagli autorità in (tutta) la terra d'Egitto:
34 Let Pharaoh proceed to appoint overseers over the land, and take the fifth part of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven plenteous years.	34 E questi deputi dei soprintendenti in ogni regione: e la quinta parte del provento de' sett'anni di fertilità,
35 And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming, and lay up grain under the authority of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.	35 I quali fin d'adesso comincieranno ad essere, sia raunata ne' granai: e tutto il frumento si rinchiuda a disposizione di Faraone, e si conservi nelle città.
36 That food shall be a reserve for the land against the seven years of famine which are to befall the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish through the famine."	36 E si tenga preparato per la futura carestia di sette anni, che verrà sopra l'Egitto, affinché il paese non sia consunto dall'inopia.
37 This proposal seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his servants.	37 Piacque il consiglio a Faraone, e a tutti i suoi ministri.
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a man as this, in whom is the Spirit of God?"	38 Ed egli disse loro: Potrem noi trovare uomo come questo, che pieno sia dello spirito di Dio?
39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you are;	39 Disse pertanto a Giuseppe: Dacché Dio ha mostrato a te tutto quello che hai detto, potrò io trovare uomo più saggio, e simile a te?
40 you shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command; only as regards the throne will I be greater than you."	40 Tu avrai la soprintendenza della mia casa, e al comando della tua bocca obbedirà tutto il popolo: non avrò precedenza sopra di te, se non quella del trono reale.
41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."	41 E disse ancora Faraone a Giuseppe: Ecco che io ti do autorità sopra tutta la terra d'Egitto.
42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in garments of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;	42 E si levò dal suo dito l'anello, e lo pose in dito a lui: e lo fece vestire di una veste di bisso, e al collo gli pose una collana d'oro.
43 and he made him to ride in his second chariot; and they cried before him, "Bow the knee!" Thus he set him over all the land of Egypt.	43 E lo fece salire sopra il suo secondo cocchio, gridando l'araldo, che tutti piegasser le ginocchia dinanzi a lui, e sapessero, come egli era soprintendente di tutta la terra d'Egitto.
44 Moreover Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man shall lift up hand or foot in all the land of Egypt."	44 Disse ancora il re a Giuseppe: Io son Faraone: nissuno in tutta la terra di Egitto moverà piede, o mano fuori che per tuo comando.
45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-paneah; and he gave him in marriage Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On. So Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.	45 E mutogli il nome, e chiamollo in lingua egiziana Salvatore del mondo. E gli diede per moglie Aseneth figliuola di Putifare sacerdote di Heliopoli. Partì adunque Giuseppe per visitare la terra d'Egitto.
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went through all the land of Egypt.	46 (Or egli avea trent'anni, allorché fu condotto davanti al re Faraone): ed ei fece il giro di tutte le provincie dell'Egitto.
47 During the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth abundantly,	47 E venne la fertilità di sette anni: e i grani legati in manipoli furono raunati ne' granai dell'Egitto.
48 and he gathered up all the food of the seven years when there was plenty in the land of Egypt, and stored up food in the cities; he stored up in every city the food from the fields around it.	48 Tutta ancor l'abbondanza delle biade fu riposta in ciascheduna delle città.
49 And Joseph stored up grain in great abundance, like the sand of the sea, until he ceased to measure it, for it could not be measured.	49 E tanto grande fu l'abbondanza del grano che uguagliò l'arena del mare, e la quantità non potea misurarsi.
50 Before the year of famine came, Joseph had two sons, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.	50 E nacquero a Giuseppe due figliuoli prima che venisse la carestia, i quali furono a lui partoriti da Aseneth figliuola di Putifare sacerdote d'Heliopoli.
51 Joseph called the name of the first-born Manasseh, "For," he said, "God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's house."	51 E al primogenito pose il nome di Manasse, dicendo: Dio mi ha fatto dimenticare di tutte le afflizioni sofferte in casa del padre mio.
52 The name of the second he called Ephraim, "For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction."	52 Al secondo poi diede il nome di Ephraim, dicendo: Il Signore mi ha fatto crescere nella terra, dove io era povero.
53 The seven years of plenty that prevailed in the land of Egypt came to an end;	53 Passati adunque i sette anni di ubertà, che erano stati nell'Egitto,
54 and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.	54 Principiarono a venire i sette anni di carestia predetti da Giuseppe, e la fame regnò per tutto il mondo: ma in tutta la terra di Egitto v'era del pane.
55 When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do."	55 E quando gli Egiziani sentirono la fame, il popolo alzò le grida a Faraone, chiedendo cibo. Ed egli rispose loro: Andate da Giuseppe, e fate tutto quello ch'ei vi dirà.
56 So when the famine had spread over all the land, Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.	56 Or la fame cresceva ogni dì più in tutta la terra: e Giuseppe aperse tutti i granai, e vendeva agli Egiziani; perocché si trovavano anch'essi alla fame.
57 Moreover, all the earth came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was severe over all the earth.	57 E venivano tutte le provincie in Egitto a comprar da mangiare, e trovar sollievo al male della carestia.
