Genesis 18

1 And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day.	1 E il Signore apparve ad Abramo nella valle di Mambre, mentre questi sedeva all'ingresso della sua tenda sul caldo del giorno.
2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the earth,	2 Or avendo Abramo alzati gli occhi, vide tre uomini che gli erano vicini; e veduti che li ebbe, corse loro incontro dall'ingresso della tenda, si prostrò fino a terra,
3 and said, "My lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.	3 e disse: « Signore, se ho trovato grazia dinanzi a te, non passare senza fermarti dal tuo servo.
4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree,	4 Ecco io porterò un po' d'acqua per lavare vostri piedi; accomodatevi sotto quell'albero,
5 while I fetch a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on--since you have come to your servant." So they said, "Do as you have said."	5 ed io vi porterò un boccone di pane per ristorarvi le forze; ve ne andrete poi: certo è per questo che siete venuti dal vostro servo ». E quelli dissero: « Fa pure come hai detto ».
6 And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."	6 Allora Abramo andò in fretta nella tenda a Sara e le disse: « Prendi subito e impasta tre misure di fior di farina e fanne delle focacce da cocersi sotto la cenere ».
7 And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it.	7 Egli poi corse all'armento e tolse il vitello tenero tenero e molto buono, e lo diede ad un servo, che si affrettò a farlo cuocere.
8 Then he took curds, and milk, and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.	8 Prese anche del burro e del latte col vitello cosi prearato e ne imbandì loro la mensa; egli poi se ne stava in piedi presso di loro sotto l'albero.
9 They said to him, "Where is Sarah your wife?" And he said, "She is in the tent."	9 Ed essi dopo aver mangiato, gli dissero : «Dov'è Sara tua moglie? » Ed egli ripose: « È là nella tenda ».
10 The LORD said, "I will surely return to you in the spring, and Sarah your wife shall have a son." And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him.	10 Ed (uno di loro) gli disse: « Ritornando verrò da te tra un anno in questi giorni, e Sara, tua moglie avrà un figliolo ». Sara, avendo ciò udito, rise dietro la porta della tenda.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.	11 Infatti ambedue eran vecchi e molto in la cogli anni, e Sara non aveva più i corsi ordinari delle donne.
12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?"	12 Essa dunque rise entro di sè, dicendo: «Avvizzita come sono e col mio signore già vecchio, penerò ancora al piacere? »
13 The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, and say, 'Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?'	13 Ma il Signore isse ad Abramo: «Perchè mai Sara ha riso, dicendo: — Potrei, fare un figliolo, vecchia come sono? —
14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, in the spring, and Sarah shall have a son."	14 Vi può essere una cosa difficile a Dio? Al tempo fissato, fra un anno, in questi giorni, ritornerò, e Sara avrà in vita un figlio ».
15 But Sarah denied, saying, "I did not laugh"; for she was afraid. He said, "No, but you did laugh."	15 Ma Sara, piena di paura, negò, dicendo: «Io non ho riso ». Il Signore però disse: « Niente affatto: tu hai riso ».
16 Then the men set out from there, and they looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to set them on their way.	16 Essendosi poi alzati quegli uomini, misero gli sguardi verso Sodoma, e Abramo andava con loro per accomiarli.
17 The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do,	17 E il Signore disse: «Potrò celare ad Abramo quello che sto per fare, dopo che Abramo deve diventare una nazione grande e fortissima,
18 seeing that Abraham shall become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves by him?	18 e in lui devono esser benedette tutte le nazioni della terra?
19 No, for I have chosen him, that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice; so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him."	19 So che egli dovrà ordinare ai suoi figlioli e alla sua casa dopo di lui di seguir le vie dèi Signore e praticar l'equità e la giustizia, affinchè il Signore compia in favore di Abramo tutto quello che gli ha promesso ». Disse dunque il Signore:
20 Then the LORD said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave,	20 « Il grido contro Sodoma e Gomorra si è fatto più forte e il loro peccato è diventato troppo enorme.
21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry which has come to me; and if not, I will know."	21 Discenderò a vedere se realmente le loro opere uguaglino il grido che n'è giunto fino a me, per ben saperlo ».
22 So the men turned from there, and went toward Sodom; but Abraham still stood before the LORD.	22 E quegli uomini, partitisi di là, andarono a Sodoma; ma Abramo restò davanti al Signore
23 Then Abraham drew near, and said, "Wilt thou indeed destroy the righteous with the wicked?	23 e avvicinandosi disse: « Farai tu perire il giusto coll'empio?
24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; wilt thou then destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it?	24 Se vi fossero in quella città cinquanta giusti, periranno insieme? E non perdonerai tu a quel luogo per amor di quei cinquanta giusti, dato che ci fossero?
25 Far be it from thee to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from thee! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"	25 Non sia mai che tu faccia tal cosa, e faccia perire il giusto coll'empio; trattare ugualmente il giusto e l'empio non è da par tuo; tu che giudichi tutta la terra non farai mai simil giudizio ».
26 And the LORD said, "If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake."	26 E il Signore gli disse: « Se io trovo nella città di Sodoma cinquanta giusti, perdonerò a tutto il luogo per amore di essi ».
27 Abraham answered, "Behold, I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes.	27 E Abramo riprese a dire: «Dacché ho cominciato, parlerò con ardire al mio Signore, benché io non sia che polvere e cenere.
28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking? Wilt thou destroy the whole city for lack of five?" And he said, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there."	28 E se ci saranno cinque giusti meno di cinquanta, distruggerai tu la città perchè sono quarantacinque solamente? » E il Signore disse: « Se ce ne trovo quarantacinque, non la distruggerò ».
29 Again he spoke to him, and said, "Suppose forty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of forty I will not do it."	29 E Abramo continuando a parlargli, disse: «E se ne saran trovati quaranta, che farai? » Disse: «Non distruggerò per amor dei quaranta ».
30 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there." He answered, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."	30 « Non ti adirare, Signore, se io parlo, soggiunse Abramo: che avverrà se ve ne fossero trenta? » Rispose: « Non farò nulla, se ce ne trovo trenta».
31 He said, "Behold, I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it."	31 «Dacché una volta ho principiato, disse Abramo, parlerò al mio Signore: e se ce ne fossero venti? » Rispose: «Non la distruggerò per amore di quei venti ».
32 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there." He answered, "For the sake of ten I will not destroy it."	32 «Di grazia, riprese Abramo, non ti adirare, o Signore, se io dirò ancora una parola: e se ne fossero trovati dieci? » E il Signore: «Non la distruggerò per amore di quei dieci ». Il Signore, finito che ebbe di parlare ad Abramo, se ne andò, e Abramo tornò a casa sua.
33 And the LORD went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.
