Genesis 18

1 And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day.	1 Apparì ancora il Signore a lui in convalle Mambre, sedente nell'uscio del tabernacolo, in quello fervore del di.
2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the earth,	2 E conciosia cosa che egli levasse gli occhi suoi, apparirono tre uomini stanti presso a lui; i quali quando gli vidde, corse incontro a loro dall'uscio del tabernacolo, e adorò in terra.
3 and said, "My lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.	3 E disse: Signore, s' io hoe trovata grazia innanzi agli occhi tuoi, non passare lo servo tuo.
4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree,	4 Ma io arrecherò uno poco d'acqua; e sieno lavati i piedi vostri, e riposatevi sotto l'àlbore.
5 while I fetch a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on--since you have come to your servant." So they said, "Do as you have said."	5 E porrò la fetta del pane, e conforterassi lo cuore vostro; poscia anderete alla via vostra: per servo questa cagione in verità siete venuti a me,vostro. I quali dissero: fa quello che tu hae detto.
6 And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."	6 Andoe in fretta Abraam nel tabernacolo a Sara, e disse: apparecchia tre misure di fiore di farina, ed intridila, e fa li pani sotto la cenere.
7 And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it.	7 Ed egli andoe all'armento, e tolse quindi uno vitello tenerissimo ed ottimo; e diello al fanciullo, il quale s'affrettò e cosselo.
8 Then he took curds, and milk, and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.	8 E arrecoe butiro e latte, e lo vitello che avea cotto; e poselo inanzi a coloro; ed egli in verità stava appresso loro sotto l'àlbore.
9 They said to him, "Where is Sarah your wife?" And he said, "She is in the tent."	9 E quando ebbero mangiato, dissero a lui: dov'è Sara tua moglie? Ed egli rispose: ecco, nel tabernacolo.
10 The LORD said, "I will surely return to you in the spring, and Sarah your wife shall have a son." And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him.	10 E il quale disse: io ritornante verrò a te in questo tempo, la vita accompagnevole; e averà lo figliuolo Sara tua moglie. La qual cosa udito, Sara rise dopo l'uscio del tabernacolo.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.	11 Ed erano amendui vecchii di piena e pro vetta etade; ed era Sara sterile.
12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?"	12 E fecesi beffe Sara, ( ch' ella fosse fatta femina atta a far figliuoli) la quale rise di nascosto, dicente: poscia ch' io sono vecchia, e lo signore mio vecchio è, darò io opera a simile dilettanza?
13 The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, and say, 'Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?'	13 E disse lo Signore ad Abraam: perchè rise Sara tua moglie, dicente: or debbo io, che sono vecchia, partorire?
14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, in the spring, and Sarah shall have a son."	14 Oh è a Dio alcuna cosa difficile? Appresso questo ordinamento, ritornerò a te in questo medesimo tempo, la vita accompagnantesi; ed averà Sara uno figliuolo.
15 But Sarah denied, saying, "I did not laugh"; for she was afraid. He said, "No, but you did laugh."	15 E negò Sara, dicente: non risi, spaventata di paura. Ma il Signore disse: non è così, ma tu ridesti.
16 Then the men set out from there, and they looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to set them on their way.	16 Quando si levarono di quivi li uomini, si indirizzarono gli occhii a Sodoma; ed Abraam insiememente andava, menante loro.
17 The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do,	17 E disse il Signore: io non potrò celare ad Abraam quelle cose ch' io debbo fare.
18 seeing that Abraham shall become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves by him?	18 Conciosiacosa che debba essere in grande gente e robustissima; e benedicere si debeno in lui ogni nazioni di terra.
19 No, for I have chosen him, that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice; so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him."	19 Io so in verità, ch' egli comanderà a' figliuoli suoi, ed alla casa sua dopo se, ch' egli osservino la via del Signore, e facciano giustizia e giudicio, acciò che adduca lo Signore, per cagione di Abraam, tutte quelle cose ch' egli ha detto a lui.
20 Then the LORD said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave,	20 E disse lo Signore ad Abraam: lo clamore di Sodoma e di Gomorra multiplicato è, ed il peccato loro è aggravato troppo.
21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry which has come to me; and if not, I will know."	21 Io v' anderò, e vederò se 'l grido e lo rumore, che vi venne a me, coll’opre l'abbiano messo in effetto: od egli non è così, acciò ch' io lo sappia.
22 So the men turned from there, and went toward Sodom; but Abraham still stood before the LORD.	22 E partendosi quindi, andarono a Sodoma; ma Abraam ancora stava innanzi al Signore.
23 Then Abraham drew near, and said, "Wilt thou indeed destroy the righteous with the wicked?	23 E approssimante disse: oh perderai tu lo giusto col malvagio?
24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; wilt thou then destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it?	24 Se saranno cinquanta giusti nella città, periranno insieme? e non perdonera' a quello luogo per cinquanta giusti, se vi sieno in quello?
25 Far be it from thee to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from thee! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"	25 Partasi da te, che tu non facci questa cosa, e uccida lo giusto col malvagio, e sia fatto lo giusto si come lo malvagio. Non è questa cosa tua, il quale giudichi ogni carne. Ma tu non fara' [questo ] giudicio.
26 And the LORD said, "If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake."	26 E disse lo Signore a lui: se io troverò cinquanta giusti nel mezzo della città, perdonerò ad ogni luogo per loro.
27 Abraham answered, "Behold, I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes.	27 Rispondente Abraam disse: imperciò che una volta incominciai, io favellerò al Signore mio, con ciosia cosa ch' io sia polvere e cenere.
28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking? Wilt thou destroy the whole city for lack of five?" And he said, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there."	28 O se meno cinque di cinquanta giusti vi fossero, guasterai per quaranta cinque giusti tutta la città? E disse: non guasterò, s' io ve ne troverò xLv.
29 Again he spoke to him, and said, "Suppose forty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of forty I will not do it."	29 Un'altra volta favelló a lui: e se sieno trovati quaranta, che farai? Disse: non la percoterò per xL.
30 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there." He answered, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."	30 Ed egli disse un'altra volta: io t'addomando, Signore mio, che tu non isdegni s' io favellerò: se ivi ne trovassi XXX? [ Rispose: ] e se fieno trovati XXX, non la guasterò.
31 He said, "Behold, I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it."	31 Ed egli disse: imperciò ch' io cominciai una volta, favellerò al Signore mio: se ve ne fieno tro vati quivi XX? [Disse:) non gli ucciderò per XX.
32 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there." He answered, "For the sake of ten I will not destroy it."	32 E disse: io ti prego che tu non t'adiri, Signore, s'io favelleroe ancora un'altra volta: o se fieno trovati quivi X? Disse: non gli guastero per X.
33 And the LORD went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.	33 Partissi il Signore, poscia che cessò di favellare ad Abraam. Ed egli tornato è nel luogo suo.
