Genesis 18

1 And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day.	1 O Senhor apareceu (a Abraão) na cadeia de Mambré, quando ele estava assentado à porta da sua tenda, no maior calor do dia.
2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the earth,	2 Tendo (Abraão) levantado os olhos, apareceram-lhe três homens que estavam em pé junto dele; logo que os viu, correu da porta da tenda ao seu encontro e prostrou-se por terra,
3 and said, "My lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.	3 dizendo-lhes: Senhor, se achei graça diante dos teus olhos, não passes (sem parar junto do) teu Servo;
4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree,	4 trarei um pouco de água para lavar vossos pés, e descansai debaixo desta árvore:
5 while I fetch a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on--since you have come to your servant." So they said, "Do as you have said."	5 servir-vos-ei um pedaço de pão, refareis as vossas forças e depois continuareis o vosso caminho, porque para isso viestes até junto do vosso servo. Eles responderam: faze como disseste.
6 And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."	6 Foi Abraão depressa à tenda de Sara e disse-lhe: amassa já três medidas de flor de farinha e faze cozer pães ao borralho.
7 And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it.	7 Ele correu à manada, tomou um novilho dos mais tenros e melhores, e deu-o a um criado, o qual se apressou a cozê-lo.
8 Then he took curds, and milk, and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.	8 Tomou também manteiga e leite, e o novilho cozido, e pôs (tudo) diante deles: enquanto comiam, estava de pé junto deles debaixo da árvore.
9 They said to him, "Where is Sarah your wife?" And he said, "She is in the tent."	9 Então disseram-lhe: onde está Sara, tua mulher? Ele respondeu: está, ali, na tenda.
10 The LORD said, "I will surely return to you in the spring, and Sarah your wife shall have a son." And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him.	10 E (um deles) disse-lhe: tornarei, a vir ter contigo neste mesmo tempo no próximo ano, e Sara, tua mulher, terá um filho. Sara, ao ouvir isto, riu-se detrás da porta da tenda.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.	11 Ambos eram velhos, de idade avançada, e o que é ordinário às mulheres tinha cessado para Sara.
12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?"	12 Ela, pois, riu-se secretamente, dizendo: depois que sou velha, e meu senhor avançado em anos, entregar-me-ei ao deleite?
13 The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, and say, 'Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?'	13 Mas o Senhor disse a Abraão: Por que se riu Sara, dizendo: será verdade que eu possa dar à luz, sendo já velha?
14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, in the spring, and Sarah shall have a son."	14 Há porventura alguma coisa (que seja) difícil a Deus? Voltarei a ti, segundo a promessa feita, neste mesmo tempo no próximo ano, e Sara terá um filho.
15 But Sarah denied, saying, "I did not laugh"; for she was afraid. He said, "No, but you did laugh."	15 Sara (cheia de medo) negou, dizendo: eu não me ri. Mas o Senhor disse: não é assim; tu riste-te.
16 Then the men set out from there, and they looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to set them on their way.	16 Tendo-se, pois, levantado dali aqueles homens, dirigiram-se para Sodoma; Abraão ia com eles, acompanhando-os.
17 The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do,	17 Senhor disse: acaso poderei eu ocultar a Abraão o que estou para fazer.
18 seeing that Abraham shall become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves by him?	18 havendo de ser, como será, pai duma nação numerosíssima e poderosíssima, e havendo todas as nações da terra de ser benditas nele?
19 No, for I have chosen him, that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice; so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him."	19 Escolhi-o, com efeito, para ordenar a seus filhos e à sua casa, depois dele, que guardem os caminhos do Senhor e que pratiquem a equidade e a justiça, para que o Senhor cumpra a favor de Abraão tudo o que lhe prometeu.
20 Then the LORD said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave,	20 Disse, pois, o Senhor; o clamor de Sodoma e de Gomorra aumentou, e o seu pecado agravou-se extraordinariamente.
21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry which has come to me; and if not, I will know."	21 Descerei e verei se as suas obras correspondem ao clamor que chegou até mim; ou, se assim não é, para o saber.
22 So the men turned from there, and went toward Sodom; but Abraham still stood before the LORD.	22 Partiram dali e foram para Sodoma; mas Abraão estava ainda diante do Senhor.
23 Then Abraham drew near, and said, "Wilt thou indeed destroy the righteous with the wicked?	23 Aproximando-se (dele), disse: perderás tu o justo com o impio?
24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; wilt thou then destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it?	24 Se houver cinquenta justos na cidade, perecerão todos juntos? E não perdoarás àquele lugar por causa de cinquenta justos, se aí os houver?
25 Far be it from thee to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from thee! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"	25 Longe de ti que faças tal coisa, que mates o justo com o ímpio, e o justo seja tratado com o ímpio. Longe isso de ti! Tu que julgas toda a terra, de nenhuma sorte farás tal juízo.
26 And the LORD said, "If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake."	26 O Senhor disse-lhe: se eu achar no meio da cidade de Sodoma cinquenta justos, perdoarei por amor deles a toda a cidade.
27 Abraham answered, "Behold, I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes.	27 Respondendo Abraão, disse: uma vez que comecei, falarei ao meu Senhor, ainda que eu seja pó e cinza.
28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking? Wilt thou destroy the whole city for lack of five?" And he said, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there."	28 Que sucederá, se faltarem cinco para os cinquenta justos? Destruirás toda a cidade, porque nela se acham sòmente quarenta e cinco? E (o Senhor) disse: não a destruirei, se achar nela quarenta e cinco.
29 Again he spoke to him, and said, "Suppose forty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of forty I will not do it."	29 (Abraão) continuou e disse-lhe: e se nela houver quarenta (justos), que farás tu? Não a castigarei, disse o Senhor, por amor dos quarenta.
30 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there." He answered, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."	30 Rogo-te, Senhor, diz (Abraão), que te não indignes, se eu (ainda continuo a) falar. Que farás tu, se lá houver trinta (justos)? Respondeu: se eu achar nela trinta, não farei (a sua destruição).
31 He said, "Behold, I have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it."	31 Visto que comecei, disse Abraão, falarei (ainda) ao meu Senhor. E se ali forem achados vinte? Respondeu: não a arruinarei por amor dos vinte.
32 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there." He answered, "For the sake of ten I will not destroy it."	32 Eu, te conjuro. Senhor, continuou Abraão, não te enfades, se eu te falar ainda uma vez: que será, se lá forem achados dez justos? E (o Senhor) disse: não a destruirei por amor dos dez.
33 And the LORD went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.	33 O Senhor retirou-se, depois que cessou de falar com Abraão, e Abraão voltou para casa.
