1 Most beloved, do not be willing to believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are of God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.	1 Queridos, no os fiéis de cualquier espíritu, sino examinad si los espíritus vienen de Dios, pues muchos falsos profetas han salido al mundo.
2 The Spirit of God may be known in this way. Every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has arrived in the flesh is of God;	2 Podréis conocer en esto el espíritu de Dios: todo espíritu que confiesa a Jesucristo, venido en carne, es de Dios;
3 and every spirit who contradicts Jesus is not of God. And this one is the Antichrist, the one that you have heard is coming, and even now he is in the world.	3 y todo espíritu que no confiesa a Jesús, no es de Dios; ese es el del Anticristo. El cual habéis oído que iba a venir; pues bien, ya está en el mundo.
4 Little sons, you are of God, and so you have overcome him. For he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.	4 Vosotros, hijos míos, sois de Dios y los habéis vencido. Pues el que está en vosotros es más que el que está en el mundo.
5 They are of the world. Therefore, they speak about the world, and the world listens to them.	5 Ellos son del mundo; por eso hablan según el mundo y el mundo los escucha.
6 We are of God. Whoever knows God, listens to us. Whoever is not of God, does not listen to us. In this way, we know the Spirit of truth from the spirit of error.	6 Nosotros somos de Dios. Quien conoce a Dios nos escucha, quien no es de Dios no nos escucha. En esto conocemos el espíritu de la verdad y el espíritu del error.
7 Most beloved, let us love one another. For love is of God. And everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.	7 Queridos, amémonos unos a otros, ya que el amor es de Dios, y todo el que ama ha nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios.
8 Whoever does not love, does not know God. For God is love.	8 Quien no ama no ha conocido a Dios, porque Dios es Amor.
9 The love of God was made apparent to us in this way: that God sent his only-begotten Son into the world, so that we might live through him.	9 En esto se manifestó el amor que Dios nos tiene; en que Dios envió al mundo a su Hijo único para que vivamos por medio de él.
10 In this is love: not as if we had loved God, but that he first loved us, and so he sent his Son as a propitiation for our sins.	10 En esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó y nos envió a su Hijo como propiciación por nuestros pecados.
11 Most beloved, if God has so loved us, we also ought to love one another.	11 Queridos, si Dios nos amó de esta manera, también nosotros debemos amarnos unos a otros.
12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us.	12 A Dios nadie le ha visto nunca. Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros y su amor ha llegado en nosotros a su plenitud.
13 In this way, we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he has given to us from his Spirit.	13 En esto conocemos que permanecemos en él y él en nosotros: en que nos ha dado de su Espíritu.
14 And we have seen, and we testify, that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.	14 Y nosotros hemos visto y damos testimonio de que el Padre envió a su Hijo, como Salvador del mundo.
15 Whoever has confessed that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.	15 Quien confiese que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece em él y él en Dios.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love. And he who abides in love, abides in God, and God in him.	16 Y nosotros hemos conocido el amor que Dios nos tiene, y hemos creído en él. Dios es Amor y quien permanece en el amor permanece en Dios y Dios en él.
17 In this way, the love of God is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment. For as he is, so also are we, in this world.	17 En esto ha llegado el amor a su plenitud con nosotros: en que tengamos confianza en el día del Juicio, pues como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo.
18 Fear is not in love. Instead, perfect love casts out fear, for fear pertains to punishment. And whoever fears is not perfected in love.	18 No hay temor en el amor; sino que el amor perfecto expulsa el temor, porque el temor mira el castigo;
19 Therefore, let us love God, for God first loved us.	19 quien teme no ha llegado a la plenitud en el amor. Nosotros amemos, porque él nos amó primero.
20 If anyone says that he loves God, but hates his brother, then he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he does see, in what way can he love God, whom he does not see?	20 Si alguno dice: «Amo a Dios», y aborrece a su hermano, es un mentiroso; pues quien no ama a su hermano, a quien ve, no puede amar a Dios a quien no ve.
21 And this is the commandment that we have from God, that he who loves God must also love his brother.	21 Y hemos recibido de él este mandamiento: quien ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano.
