CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINKING JAMES BIBLE
Therefore, I beg the elders who are among you, as one who is also an elder and a witness of the Passion of Christ, who also shares in that glory which is to be revealed in the future:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
pasture the flock of God that is among you, providing for it, not as a requirement, but willingly, in accord with God, and not for the sake of tainted profit, but freely,2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
not so as to dominate by means of the clerical state, but so as to be formed into a flock from the heart.3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
And when the Leader of pastors will have appeared, you shall secure an unfading crown of glory.4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Similarly, young persons, be subject to the elders. And infuse all humility among one another, for God resists the arrogant, but to the humble he gives grace.5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
And so, be humbled under the powerful hand of God, so that he may exalt you in the time of visitation.6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Cast all your cares upon him, for he takes care of you.7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Be sober and vigilant. For your adversary, the devil, is like a roaring lion, traveling around and seeking those whom he might devour.8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Resist him by being strong in faith, being aware that the same passions afflict those who are your brothers in the world.9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself perfect, confirm, and establish us, after a brief time of suffering.10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
To him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
I have written briefly, through Sylvanus, whom I consider to be a faithful brother to you, begging and testifying that this is the true grace of God, in which you have been established.12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
The Church which is in Babylon, elect together with you, greets you, as does my son, Mark.13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.
Greet one another with a holy kiss. Grace be to all of you who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
