1 Therefore, I beg the elders who are among you, as one who is also an elder and a witness of the Passion of Christ, who also shares in that glory which is to be revealed in the future:	1 Esorto gli anziani che sono tra voi, quale anziano come loro, testimone delle sofferenze di Cristo e partecipe della gloria che deve manifestarsi:
2 pasture the flock of God that is among you, providing for it, not as a requirement, but willingly, in accord with God, and not for the sake of tainted profit, but freely,	2 pascete il gregge di Dio che vi è affidato, sorvegliandolo non perché costretti ma volentieri, come piace a Dio, non per vergognoso interesse, ma con animo generoso,
3 not so as to dominate by means of the clerical state, but so as to be formed into a flock from the heart.	3 non come padroni delle persone a voi affidate, ma facendovi modelli del gregge.
4 And when the Leader of pastors will have appeared, you shall secure an unfading crown of glory.	4 E quando apparirà il Pastore supremo, riceverete la corona della gloria che non appassisce.
5 Similarly, young persons, be subject to the elders. And infuse all humility among one another, for God resists the arrogant, but to the humble he gives grace.	5 Anche voi, giovani, siate sottomessi agli anziani. Rivestitevi tutti di umiltà gli uni verso gli altri, perché Dio resiste ai superbi, ma dà grazia agli umili.
6 And so, be humbled under the powerful hand of God, so that he may exalt you in the time of visitation.	6 Umiliatevi dunque sotto la potente mano di Dio, affinché vi esalti al tempo opportuno,
7 Cast all your cares upon him, for he takes care of you.	7 riversando su di lui ogni vostra preoccupazione, perché egli ha cura di voi.
8 Be sober and vigilant. For your adversary, the devil, is like a roaring lion, traveling around and seeking those whom he might devour.	8 Siate sobri, vegliate. Il vostro nemico, il diavolo, come leone ruggente va in giro cercando chi divorare.
9 Resist him by being strong in faith, being aware that the same passions afflict those who are your brothers in the world.	9 Resistetegli saldi nella fede, sapendo che le medesime sofferenze sono imposte ai vostri fratelli sparsi per il mondo.
10 But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself perfect, confirm, and establish us, after a brief time of suffering.	10 E il Dio di ogni grazia, il quale vi ha chiamati alla sua gloria eterna in Cristo Gesù, egli stesso, dopo che avrete un poco sofferto, vi ristabilirà, vi confermerà, vi rafforzerà, vi darà solide fondamenta.
11 To him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.	11 A lui la potenza nei secoli. Amen!
12 I have written briefly, through Sylvanus, whom I consider to be a faithful brother to you, begging and testifying that this is the true grace of God, in which you have been established.	12 Vi ho scritto brevemente per mezzo di Silvano, che io ritengo fratello fedele, per esortarvi e attestarvi che questa è la vera grazia di Dio.
