1 And when he had completed all his words in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.	1 Cuando terminó de exponer todas sus enseñanzas al pueblo, entró en Cafarnaún.
2 Now the servant of a certain centurion was dying, due to an illness. And he was very dear to him.	2 Un centurión tenía enfermo, a punto de morir, a un criado a quien estimaba mucho.
3 And when he had heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, petitioning him, so that he would come and heal his servant.	3 Al oír hablar de Jesús, el centurión le envió unos ancianos de los judíos, rogándole que viniese a curar a su criado.
4 And when they had come to Jesus, they petitioned him anxiously, saying to him: “He is worthy that you should provide this to him.	4 Ellos, presentándose a Jesús, le rogaban encarecidamente: «Merece que se lo concedas,
5 For he loves our nation, and he has built a synagogue for us.”	5 porque tiene afecto a nuestra gente y nos ha construido la sinagoga».
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying: “Lord, do not trouble yourself. For I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof.	6 Jesús se puso en camino con ellos. No estaba lejos de la casa, cuando el centurión le envió unos amigos a decirle: «Señor, no te molestes, porque no soy digno de que entres bajo mi techo;
7 Because of this, I also did not consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant shall be healed.	7 por eso tampoco me creí digno de venir a ti personalmente. Dilo de palabra y mi criado quedará sano.
8 For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”	8 Porque también yo soy un hombre sometido a una autoridad y con soldados a mis órdenes; y le digo a uno: “Ve”, y va; al otro: “Ven”, y viene; y a mi criado: “Haz esto”, y lo hace».
9 And upon hearing this, Jesus was amazed. And turning to the multitude following him, he said, “Amen I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”	9 Al oír esto, Jesús se admiró de él y, volviéndose a la gente que lo seguía, dijo: «Os digo que ni en Israel he encontrado tanta fe».
10 And those who had been sent, upon returning to the house, found that the servant, who had been sick, was now healthy.	10 Y al volver a casa, los enviados encontraron al siervo sano.
11 And it happened afterwards that he went to a city, which is called Nain. And his disciples, and an abundant crowd, went with him.	11 Poco tiempo después iba camino de una ciudad llamada Naín, y caminaban con él sus discípulos y mucho gentío.
12 Then, when he had drawn near to the gate of the city, behold, a deceased person was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.	12 Cuando se acercaba a la puerta de la ciudad, resultó que sacaban a enterrar a un muerto, hijo único de su madre, que era viuda; y un gentío considerable de la ciudad la acompañaba.
13 And when the Lord had seen her, being moved by mercy over her, he said to her, “Do not weep.”	13 Al verla el Señor, se compadeció de ella y le dijo: «No llores».
14 And he drew near and touched the coffin. Then those who carried it stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”	14 Y acercándose al ataúd, lo tocó (los que lo llevaban se pararon) y dijo: «¡Muchacho, a ti te lo digo, levántate!».
15 And the dead youth sat up and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.	15 El muerto se incorporó y empezó a hablar, y se lo entregó a su madre.
16 Then fear fell over all of them. And they magnified God, saying: “For a great prophet has risen up among us,” and, “For God has visited his people.”	16 Todos, sobrecogidos de temor, daban gloria a Dios diciendo: «Un gran Profeta ha surgido entre nosotros», y «Dios ha visitado a su pueblo».
17 And this word about him went out to all of Judea and to the entire surrounding region.	17 Este hecho se divulgó por toda Judea y por toda la comarca circundante.
18 And the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things.	18 Los discípulos de Juan le contaron todo esto. Y Juan, llamando a dos de sus discípulos,
19 And John called two of his disciples, and he sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?”	19 los envió al Señor diciendo: «¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o tenemos que esperar a otro?».
20 But when the men had come to him, they said: “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying: ‘Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?’ ”	20 Los hombres se presentaron ante él y le dijeron: «Juan el Bautista nos ha mandado a ti para decirte: “¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o tenemos que esperar a otro?”».
21 Now in that same hour, he cured many of their diseases and wounds and evil spirits; and to many of the blind, he gave sight.	21 En aquella hora curó a muchos de enfermedades, achaques y malos espíritus, y a muchos ciegos les otorgó la vista.
22 And responding, he said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.	22 Y respondiendo, les dijo: «Id y anunciad a Juan lo que habéis visto y oído: los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios y los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan, los pobres son evangelizados.
23 And blessed is anyone who has not taken offense at me.”	23 Y ¡bienaventurado el que no se escandalice de mí!».
24 And when the messengers of John had withdrawn, he began to speak about John to the crowds. “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?	24 Cuando se marcharon los mensajeros de Juan, se puso a hablar a la gente acerca de Juan: «¿Qué salisteis a contemplar en el desierto? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento?
25 Then what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are in costly apparel and finery are in the houses of kings.	25 Pues ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un hombre vestido con ropas finas? Mirad, los que se visten fastuosamente y viven entre placeres están en los palacios reales.
26 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Certainly, I tell you, and more than a prophet.	26 Entonces, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un profeta? Sí, os digo, y más que profeta.
27 This is he of whom it is written: “Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.”	27 Este es de quien está escrito: “Yo envío mi mensajero delante de ti, el cual preparará tu camino ante ti”.
28 For I say to you, among those born of women, no one is greater than the prophet John the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”	28 Porque os digo, entre los nacidos de mujer no hay nadie mayor que Juan. Aunque el más pequeño en el reino de Dios es mayor que él».
29 And upon hearing this, all the people and the tax collectors justified God, by being baptized with the baptism of John.	29 Al oír a Juan, todo el pueblo, incluso los publicanos, recibiendo el bautismo de Juan, proclamaron que Dios es justo.
30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law despised the counsel of God concerning themselves, by not being baptized by him.	30 Pero los fariseos y los maestros de la ley, que no habían aceptado su bautismo, frustraron el designio de Dios para con ellos.
31 Then the Lord said: “Therefore, to what shall I compare the men of this generation? And to what are they similar?	31 «¿A quién, pues, compararé los hombres de esta generación? ¿A quién son semejantes?
32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace, talking with one another, and saying: ‘We sang to you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not weep.’	32 Se asemejan a unos niños, sentados en la plaza, que gritan a otros aquello de: “Hemos tocado la flauta | y no habéis bailado, | hemos entonado lamentaciones, | y no habéis llorado”
33 For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’	33 Porque vino Juan el Bautista, que ni come pan ni bebe vino, y decís: “Tiene un demonio”;
34 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a voracious man and a drinker of wine, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners.’	34 vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y decís: “Mirad qué hombre más comilón y borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores”.
35 But wisdom is justified by all her children.”	35 Sin embargo, todos los hijos de la sabiduría le han dado la razón».
36 Then certain Pharisees petitioned him, so that they might eat with him. And he went into the house of the Pharisee, and he reclined at table.	36 Un fariseo le rogaba que fuera a comer con él y, entrando en casa del fariseo, se recostó a la mesa.
37 And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner, found out that he was reclining at table in the house of the Pharisee, so she brought an alabaster container of ointment.	37 En esto, una mujer que había en la ciudad, una pecadora, al enterarse de que estaba comiendo en casa del fariseo, vino trayendo un frasco de alabastro lleno de perfume y,
38 And standing behind him, beside his feet, she began to wash his feet with tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, and she kissed his feet, and she anointed them with ointment.	38 colocándose detrás junto a sus pies, llorando, se puso a regarle los pies con las lágrimas, se los enjugaba con los cabellos de su cabeza, los cubría de besos y se los ungía con el perfume.
39 Then the Pharisee, who had invited him, upon seeing this, spoke within himself, saying, “This man, if he were a prophet, would certainly know who and what kind of woman is this, who is touching him: that she is a sinner.”	39 Al ver esto, el fariseo que lo había invitado se dijo: «Si este fuera profeta, sabría quién y qué clase de mujer es la que lo está tocando, pues es una pecadora».
40 And in response, Jesus said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said, “Speak, Teacher.”	40 Jesús respondió y le dijo: «Simón, tengo algo que decirte». Él contestó: «Dímelo, Maestro».
41 “A certain creditor had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.	41 «Un prestamista tenía dos deudores: uno le debía quinientos denarios y el otro cincuenta.
42 And since they did not have the ability to repay him, he forgave them both. So then, which of them loves him more?”	42 Como no tenían con qué pagar, los perdonó a los dos. ¿Cuál de ellos le mostrará más amor?».
43 In response, Simon said, “I suppose that it is he to whom he forgave the most.” And he said to him, “You have judged correctly.”	43 Respondió Simón y dijo: «Supongo que aquel a quien le perdonó más». Y él le dijo: «Has juzgado rectamente».
44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon: “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You gave me no water for my feet. But she has washed my feet with tears, and has wiped them with her hair.	44 Y, volviéndose a la mujer, dijo a Simón: «¿Ves a esta mujer? He entrado en tu casa y no me has dado agua para los pies; ella, en cambio, me ha regado los pies con sus lágrimas y me los ha enjugado con sus cabellos.
45 You gave no kiss to me. But she, from the time that she entered, has not ceased to kiss my feet.	45 Tú no me diste el beso de paz; ella, en cambio, desde que entré, no ha dejado de besarme los pies.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil. But she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Tú no me ungiste la cabeza con ungüento; ella, en cambio, me ha ungido los pies con perfume.
47 Because of this, I tell you: many sins are forgiven her, because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven less, loves less.”	47 Por eso te digo: sus muchos pecados han quedado perdonados, porque ha amado mucho, pero al que poco se le perdona, ama poco».
48 Then he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven you.”	48 Y a ella le dijo: «Han quedado perdonados tus pecados».
49 And those who sat at table with him began to say within themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”	49 Los demás convidados empezaron a decir entre ellos: «¿Quién es este, que hasta perdona pecados?».
50 Then he said to the woman: “Your faith has brought you salvation. Go in peace.”	50 Pero él dijo a la mujer: «Tu fe te ha salvado, vete en paz».
