1 And the entire multitude of them, rising up, led him to Pilate.	1 Et, s'étant tous levés, ils Le conduisirent à Pilate.
2 Then they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this one subverting our nation, and prohibiting giving tribute to Caesar, and saying that he is Christ the king.”	2 Et ils commencèrent à L'accuser, en disant: Nous avons trouvé cet homme pervertissant notre nation, empêchant de payer le tribut à César, et Se disant le Christ-roi.
3 And Pilate questioned him, saying: “You are the king of the Jews?” But in response, he said: “You are saying it.”	3 Pilate L'interrogea, en disant: Est-Tu le roi des Juifs? Jésus répondit: tu le dis.
4 Then Pilate said to the leaders of the priests and to the crowds, “I find no case against this man.”	4 Alors Pilate dit aux princes des prêtres et aux foules: Je ne trouve rien de criminel dans cet homme.
5 But they continued more intensely, saying: “He has stirred up the people, teaching throughout all of Judea, beginning from Galilee, even to this place.”	5 Mais ils insistaient, en disant: Il soulève le peuple, en enseignant par toute la Judée, depuis la Galilée, où Il a commencé, jusqu'ici.
6 But Pilate, upon hearing Galilee, asked if the man were of Galilee.	6 Pilate, entendant parler de la Galilée, demanda si cet homme était Galiléen.
7 And when he realized that he was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him away to Herod, who was himself also at Jerusalem in those days.	7 Et ayant appris qu'Il était de la juridiction d'Hérode, il Le renvoya à Hérode, qui était aussi à Jérusalem en ces jours-là.
8 Then Herod, upon seeing Jesus, was very glad. For he had been wanting to see him for a long time, because he had heard so many things about him, and he was hoping to see some kind of sign wrought by him.	8 Hérode, voyant Jésus, en eut une grande joie; car il désirait depuis longtemps Le voir, parce qu'il avait entendu dire beaucoup de choses de Lui, et il espérait Lui voir faire quelque miracle.
9 Then he questioned him with many words. But he gave him no response at all.	9 Il Lui adressait donc de nombreuses questions; mais Jésus ne lui répondit rien.
10 And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, stood firm in persistently accusing him.	10 Cependant les princes des prêtres et les scribes étaient là, L'accusant sans relâche.
11 Then Herod, with his soldiers, scorned him. And he ridiculed him, clothing him in a white garment. And he sent him back to Pilate.	11 Or Hérode, avec ses gardes, Le méprisa, et il se moqua de Lui en Le revêtant d'une robe blanche; puis il Le renvoya à Pilate.
12 And Herod and Pilate became friends on that day. For previously they were enemies to one another.	12 Hérode et Pilate devinrent amis en ce jour même, d'ennemis qu'ils étaient auparavant.
13 And Pilate, calling together the leaders of the priests, and the magistrates, and the people,	13 Or Pilate, ayant convoqué les princes des prêtres, les magistrats et le peuple,
14 said to them: “You have brought before me this man, as one who disturbs the people. And behold, having questioned him before you, I find no case against this man, in those things about which you accuse him.	14 leur dit: Vous m'avez présenté cet homme comme portant la nation à la révolte; et voici que, L'interrogeant devant vous, je ne L'ai trouvé coupable d'aucun des crimes dont vous L'accusez.
15 And neither did Herod. For I sent you all to him, and behold, nothing deserving of death was recorded about him.	15 Ni Hérode non plus; car je vous ai renvoyés à lui, et on n'a rien fait à l'accusé qui montre qu'Il mérite la mort.
16 Therefore, I will chastise him and release him.”	16 Je Le renverrai donc, après L'avoir châtié.
17 Now he was required to release one person for them on the feast day.	17 Or il était obligé de leur délivrer un prisonnier le jour de la fête.
18 But the entire crowd exclaimed together, saying: “Take this one, and release to us Barabbas!”	18 Et la foule tout entière s'écria: Fais mourir Celui-ci, et délivre-nous Barabbas.
19 Now he had been cast into prison because of a certain sedition that occurred in the city and for murder.	19 Cet homme avait été mis en prison, à cause d'une sédition qui avait eu lieu dans la ville, et d'un meurtre.
20 Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus.	20 Pilate leur parla de nouveau, voulant délivrer Jésus.
21 But they shouted in response, saying: “Crucify him! Crucify him!”	21 Mais ils criaient plus fort, disant: Crucifie-Le, crucifie-Le!
22 Then he said to them a third time: “Why? What evil has he done? I find no case against him for death. Therefore, I will chastise him and release him.”	22 Il leur dit pour la troisième fois: Mais quel mal a-t-Il fait? Je ne trouve en Lui rien qui mérite la mort; je vais donc Le châtier, et je Le renverrai.
23 But they persisted, with loud voices, in demanding that he be crucified. And their voices increased in intensity.	23 Mais ils insistaient à grands cris, demandant qu'Il fût crucifié; et leurs clameurs redoublaient.
24 And so Pilate issued a judgment granting their petition.	24 Alors Pilate ordonna que ce qu'ils demandaient fût exécuté.
25 Then he released for them the one who had been cast into prison for murder and sedition, whom they were requesting. Yet truly, Jesus he handed over to their will.	25 Il leur délivra celui qu'ils réclamaient, qui avait été mis en prison pour meurtre et sédition, et il livra Jésus à leur volonté.
26 And as they were leading him away, they apprehended a certain one, Simon of Cyrene, as he was returning from the countryside. And they imposed the cross on him to carry after Jesus.	26 Et comme ils L'emmenaient, ils prirent un certain Simon de Cyrène, qui revenait des champs, et ils le chargèrent de la croix, la lui faisant porter derrière Jésus.
27 Then a great crowd of people followed him, with women who were mourning and lamenting him.	27 Or Il était suivi d'une grande foule de peuple, et de femmes qui se frappaient la poitrine et qui se lamentaient sur Lui.
28 But Jesus, turning to them, said: “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me. Instead, weep over yourselves and over your children.	28 Mais Jésus, Se retournant vers elles, dit: Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur Moi; mais pleurez sur vous-mêmes et sur vos enfants;
29 For behold, the days will arrive in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the breasts that have not nursed.’	29 car voici qu'il viendra des jours où l'on dira: Heureuses les stériles, et les entrailles qui n'ont pas d'enfants, et les mamelles qui n'ont point allaité.
30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall over us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’	30 Alors ils se mettront à dire aux montagnes: Tombez sur nous; et aux collines: Couvrez-nous.
31 For if they do these things with green wood, what will be done with the dry?”	31 Car s'ils traitent ainsi le bois vert, que fera-t-on au bois sec?
32 Now they also led out two other criminals with him, in order to execute them.	32 On conduisait aussi avec Lui deux autres hommes, qui étaient des malfaiteurs, pour les mettre à mort.
33 And when they arrived at the place that is called Calvary, they crucified him there, with the robbers, one to the right and the other to the left.	33 Et lorsqu'ils furent arrivés au lieu appelé Calvaire, ils L'y crucifièrent, ainsi que des voleurs, l'un à droite et l'autre à gauche.
34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them. For they know not what they do.” And truly, dividing his garments, they cast lots.	34 Et Jésus disait: Père, pardonnez-leur, car ils ne savent ce qu'ils font. Partageant ensuite Ses vêtements, ils les tirèrent au sort.
35 And people were standing near, watching. And the leaders among them derided him, saying: “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this one is the Christ, the elect of God.”	35 Et le peuple se tenait là, regardant; et, avec lui, les chefs se moquaient de Jésus, en disant: Il a sauvé les autres; qu'Il Se sauve Lui-même, s'Il est le Christ, l'élu de Dieu.
36 And the soldiers also ridiculed him, approaching him and offering him vinegar,	36 Les soldats aussi L'insultaient, s'approchant de Lui, et Lui présentant du vinaigre,
37 and saying, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”	37 et disant: Si Tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-Toi.
38 Now there was also an inscription written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.	38 Il y avait aussi au-dessus de Lui une inscription, écrite en grec, en latin et en hébreu: Celui-ci est le roi des Juifs.
39 And one of those robbers who were hanging blasphemed him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us.”	39 Or l'un des voleurs suspendus en croix Le blasphémait, en disant: Si Tu es le Christ, sauve-Toi Toi-même, et nous avec Toi.
40 But the other responded by rebuking him, saying: “Do you have no fear of God, since you are under the same condemnation?	40 Mais l'autre le reprenait, en disant: Toi non plus, tu ne crains donc pas Dieu, toi qui es condamné au même supplice?
41 And indeed, it is just for us. For we are receiving what our deeds deserve. But truly, this one has done nothing wrong.”	41 Encore, pour nous, c'est justice, car nous recevons ce qu'ont mérité nos oeuvres; mais Celui-ci n'a fait aucun mal.
42 And he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”	42 Et il disait à Jésus: Seigneur, souvenez-Vous de moi, lorsque Vous serez arrivé dans Votre royaume.
43 And Jesus said to him, “Amen I say to you, this day you shall be with me in Paradise.”	43 Et Jésus lui dit: En vérité, Je te le dis, tu seras aujourd'hui avec Moi dans le paradis.
44 Now it was nearly the sixth hour, and a darkness occurred over the entire earth, until the ninth hour.	44 Il était environ la sixième heure, et les ténèbres couvrirent toute la terre jusqu'à la neuvième heure.
45 And the sun was obscured. And the veil of the temple was torn down the middle.	45 Le soleil fut obscurci, et le voile du temple se déchira par le milieu.
46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And upon saying this, he expired.	46 Et criant d'une voix forte, Jésus dit: Père, Je remets Mon esprit entre Vos mains. Et disant cela, Il expira.
47 Now, the centurion, seeing what had happened, glorified God, saying, “Truly, this man was the Just One.”	47 Or le centurion, voyant ce qui était arrivé, glorifia Dieu en disant: Certainement cet homme était juste.
48 And the entire crowd of those who came together to see this spectacle also saw what had happened, and they returned, striking their breasts.	48 Et toute la foule de ceux qui assistaient à ce spectacle, et qui voyaient ce qui se passait, s'en retournait en se frappant la poitrine.
49 Now all those who knew him, and the women who had followed him from Galilee, were standing at a distance, watching these things.	49 Tous ceux qui avaient connu Jésus, et les femmes qui L'avaient suivi de Galailée, se tenaient à distance, regardant ces choses.
50 And behold, there was a man named Joseph, who was a councilman, a good and just man,	50 Et voici qu'il y avait un homme nommé Joseph, membre du conseil, homme bon et juste,
51 (for he had not consented to their decision or their actions). He was from Arimathea, a city of Judea. And he was himself also anticipating the kingdom of God.	51 qui n'avait pas consenti au dessein et aux actes des autres; il était d'Arimathie, ville de Judée, et il attendait aussi le royaume de Dieu.
52 This man approached Pilate and petitioned for the body of Jesus.	52 Cet homme alla trouver Pilate, et lui demanda le corps de Jésus.
53 And taking him down, he wrapped him in a fine linen cloth, and he placed him in a tomb hewn from rock, in which no one had ever been placed.	53 Et l'ayant détaché de la croix, il l'enveloppa d'un linceul, et le plaça dans un sépulcre taillé dans le roc, où personne n'avait encore été mis.
54 And it was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.	54 Or c'était le jour de la préparation, et le sabbat allait commencer.
55 Now the women who had come with him from Galilee, by following, saw the tomb and the manner in which his body was placed.	55 Les femmes qui étaient venues de Galilée avec Jésus, ayant suivi Joseph, considérèrent le sépulcre, et comment le corps de Jésus y avait été mis.
56 And upon returning, they prepared aromatic spices and ointments. But on the Sabbath, indeed, they rested, according to the commandment.	56 Et s'en retournant, elles préparèrent des aromates et des parfums; et, pendant le sabbat, elles se tinrent en repos, selon la loi.
