1 In that hour, the disciples drew near to Jesus, saying, “Whom do you consider to be greater in the kingdom of heaven?”	1 In quel momento i discepoli si avvicinarono a Gesù e gli dissero: «Chi, dunque, è il più grande nel regno dei cieli?»
2 And Jesus, calling to himself a little child, placed him in their midst.	2 È Gesù, chiamato a sé un bambino, lo pose in mezzo a loro
3 And he said: “Amen I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.	3 e disse: «In verità vi dico: se non vi cambiate e diventate come i bambini, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.
4 Therefore, whoever will have humbled himself like this little child, such a one is greater in the kingdom of heaven.	4 Il più grande nel regno dei cieli è chi si fa piccolo come questo bambino;
5 And whoever shall accept one such little child in my name, accepts me.	5 e chi accoglie nel mio nome un bambino come questo, accoglie me.
6 But whoever will have led astray one of these little ones, who trust in me, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck, and to be submerged in the depths of the sea.	6 Ma chiunque scandalizza uno di questi piccoli che credono in me, sarebbe meglio per lui se gli appendessero al collo una macina d’asino e lo precipitassero nel profondo del mare.
7 Woe to a world that leads people astray! Although it is necessary for temptations to arise, nevertheless: Woe to that man through whom temptation arises!	7 Guai al mondo a causa degli scandali! È inevitabile che avvengano scandali; ma guai all’uomo per mezzo del quale lo scandalo viene!
8 So if your hand or your foot leads you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life disabled or lame, than to be sent into eternal fire having two hands or two feet.	8 Se, dunque, la tua mano o il tuo piede ti è occasione di peccato, mozzalo e gettalo lontano da te; è meglio per te entrar nella vita monco o zoppo che esser gettato con due mani e due piedi nel fuoco eterno.
9 And if your eye leads you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than to be sent into the fires of Hell having two eyes.	9 E se il tuo occhio ti è occasione di peccato, strappalo e gettalo lontano da te; è meglio per te entrare nella vita con un solo occhio che esser gettato con due occhi nella Geenna del fuoco.
10 See to it that you do not despise even one of these little ones. For I say to you, that their Angels in heaven continually look upon the face of my Father, who is in heaven.	10 Guardate di non disprezzare uno di questi piccoli, perché vi dico: i loro angeli nei cieli contemplano incessantemente il volto del Padre vostro che è nei cieli.
11 For the Son of man has come to save what had been lost.	11 Il Figlio dell’uomo è venuto, infatti, a salvare ciò che era perduto.
12 How does it seem to you? If someone has one hundred sheep, and if one of them has gone astray, should he not leave behind the ninety-nine in the mountains, and go out to seek what has gone astray?	12 Che ve ne pare? Se un uomo ha cento pecore e una di esse si smarrisce, non lascerà le altre novantanove sui monti per andare a cercare la smarrita?
13 And if he should happen to find it: Amen I say to you, that he has more joy over that one, than over the ninety-nine which did not go astray.	13 E se gli accade di trovarla, in verità vi dico, ne godrà più che per le altre novantanove che non si erano smarrite.
14 Even so, it is not the will before your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should be lost.	14 Così, è volontà del Padre vostro che è nei cieli che nessuno di questi piccoli vada perduto.
15 But if your brother has sinned against you, go and correct him, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you will have regained your brother.	15 Se il tuo fratello pecca contro di te, va’ e riprendilo fra te e lui solo; se ti, ascolta, avrai guadagnato il tuo fratello,
16 But if he will not listen you, invite with you one or two more, so that every word may stand by the mouth of two or three witnesses.	16 se, invece, non ti ascolta, prendi ancora con te una o due persone, affinché la cosa sia regolata sulla parola di due o tre testimoni.
17 And if he will not listen to them, tell the Church. But if he will not listen to the Church, let him be to you like the pagan and the tax collector.	17 Se rifiuta di ‘ascoltarli, dillo alla Chiesa; se poi non vuole ascoltare nemmeno la Chiesa, sia per te come il pagano e il pubblicano.
18 Amen I say to you, whatever you will have bound on earth, shall be bound also in heaven, and whatever you will have released on earth, shall be released also in heaven.	18 In verità vi dico: tutto ciò che legherete sulla terra sarà legato in cielo, e tutto ciò che scioglierete sulla terra sarà sciolto in cielo.
19 Again I say to you, that if two of those among you have agreed on earth, about anything whatsoever that they have requested, it shall be done for them by my Father, who is in heaven.	19 Inoltre, vi dico in verità: se due di voi sulla terra si mettono d’accordo per domandare qualunque cosa, sarà loro concessa dal Padre mio che è nei cieli.
20 For wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there am I, in their midst.”	20 Perché dove due o tre sono riuniti nel mio nome, là sono io, in mezzo a loro».
21 Then Peter, drawing near to him, said: “Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Even seven times?”	21 Allora Pietro, avvicinatosi, gli disse: «Signore, se il mio fratello pecca contro di me, quante volte dovrò perdonargli? Fino a sette volte?»
22 Jesus said to him: “I do not say to you, even seven times, but even seventy times seven times.	22 E gli dice Gesù: «Non ti dico fino a sette volte, ma fino a settanta volte sette.
23 Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is compared to a man who was king, who wanted to take account of his servants.	23 Per questo, il regno dei cieli è simile a un re che volle fare i conti con i suoi servi.
24 And when he had begun taking account, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.	24 Cominciato il rendiconto, gli fu presentato uno che gli era debitore di diecimila talenti.
25 But since he did not have any way to repay it, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children, and all that he had, in order to repay it.	25 Non avendo, però, quello di che restituire, il signore ordinò di venderlo con la moglie, i figli e tutto quanto possedeva per saldare il debito.
26 But that servant, falling prostrate, begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’	26 Ma il servo gli si gettò ai piedi e gli si prostrava dicendo: “Signore, sii paziente con me e ti restituirò tutto!”.
27 Then the lord of that servant, being moved with pity, released him, and he forgave his debt.	27 Impietositosi, il signore di quel servo lo lasciò andare e gli condonò il debito.
28 But when that servant departed, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him one hundred denarius. And taking hold of him, he choked him, saying: ‘Repay what you owe.’	28 Uscendo fuori, quel servo si imbatté in uno dei suoi compagni di servizio che gli doveva cento denari, e afferratolo per la gola lo soffocava dicendo: “Restituisci quel che devi”.
29 And his fellow servant, falling prostrate, petitioned him, saying: ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’	29 Ma il compagno: cadendogli ai piedi, lo supplicava dicendo: “Sii paziente con me e restituirò!”.
30 But he was not willing. Instead, he went out and had him sent to prison, until he would repay the debt.	30 Ma quello rifiutò e andò a farlo gettare in prigione, finché non avesse restituito quanto doveva.
31 Now his fellow servants, seeing what was done, were greatly saddened, and they went and reported to their lord all that was done.	31 Ora, gli altri compagni, visto ciò che era accaduto, ne furono profondamente addolorati e riferirono per filo e per segno al loro signore tutto ciò che era accaduto.
32 Then his lord called him, and he said to him: ‘You wicked servant, I forgave you all your debt, because you pleaded with me.	32 Allora il signore se lo fece chiamare e gli disse: “Servo malvagio; ti ho condonato tutto quel debito perché mi ti sei raccomandato;
33 Therefore, should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I also had compassion on you?’	33 non dovevi, a tua volta aver pietà del tuo compagno come io avevo avuto pietà di te?”
34 And his lord, being angry, handed him over to the torturers, until he repaid the entire debt.	34 E sdegnato, il signore lo consegnò agli aguzzini finché avesse restituito tutto ciò che gli doveva.
35 So, too, shall my heavenly Father do to you, if each one of you will not forgive his brother from your hearts.”	35 Così vi tratterà anche il Padre mio celeste se ognuno non perdona dal cuore al suo fratello».
