CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
ALEPH. I am a man watching my own poverty by the rod of his indignation.1 Εγω ειμαι ο ανθρωπος, οστις ειδον θλιψιν απο της ραβδου του θυμου αυτου.
ALEPH. He has driven me and led me into darkness, and not into light.2 Με ωδηγησε και εφερεν εις σκοτος και ουχι εις φως.
ALEPH. Against me only, he has turned and turned again his hand, all day long.3 Ναι, κατ' εμου εστραφη? κατ' εμου εστρεψε την χειρα αυτου ολην την ημεραν.
BETH. My skin and my flesh, he has made old; he has crushed my bones.4 Επαλαιωσε την σαρκα μου και το δερμα μου? συνετριψε τα οστα μου.
BETH. He has built all around me, and he has encircled me with gall and hardship.5 Ωικοδομησε κατ' εμου και με περιεκυκλωσε χολην και μοχθον.
BETH. He has gathered me into darkness, like those who are forever dead.6 Με εκαθισεν εν σκοτεινοις ως νεκρους αιωνιους.
GHIMEL. He has built against me all around, so that I may not depart. He has increased the burden of my confinement.7 Με περιεφραξε, δια να μη εξελθω? εβαρυνε τας αλυσεις μου.
GHIMEL. Yet even when I cry out and beg, he excludes my prayer.8 Ετι και οταν κραζω και αναβοω, αποκλειει την προσευχην μου.
GHIMEL. He has enclosed my ways with square stones; he has subverted my paths.9 Περιεφραξε με πελεκητους λιθους τας οδους μου, εστρεβλωσε τας τριβους μου.
DALETH. He has become to me like a bear lying in ambush, like a lion in hiding.10 Εγεινεν εις εμε αρκτος ενεδρευουσα, λεων εν αποκρυφοις.
DALETH. He has subverted my paths, and he has broken me. He has placed me in desolation.11 Παρετρεψε τας οδους μου και με κατεσπαραξε, με κατεστηαεν ηφανισμενην.
DALETH. He has bent his bow, and he has positioned me like a target for his arrows.12 Ενετεινε το τοξον αυτου και με εστησεν ως σκοπον εις βελος.
HE. He has shot into my kidneys the daughters of his quiver.13 Ενεπηξεν εις τα νεφρα μου τα βελη της φαρετρας αυτου.
HE. I have become a derision to all my people, their song throughout the day.14 Εγεινα γελως εις παντα τον λαον μου, ασμα αυτων ολην την ημεραν.
HE. He has filled me with bitterness; he has inebriated me with wormwood.15 Με εχορτασε πικριαν? με εμεθυσεν αψινθιον.
VAU. And he has broken each one of my teeth; he has fed me with ashes.16 Και συνετριψε τους οδοντας μου με χαλικας? με εκαλυψε με σποδον.
VAU. And my soul has been driven away from peace; I have forgotten what is good.17 Και απεσπρωξα, απο ειρηνης την ψυχην μου? ελησμονησα το αγαθον.
VAU. And I said, “My end and my hope from the Lord has perished.”18 Και ειπα, Απωλεσθη η δυναμις μου και η ελπις μου υπο του Κυριου.
ZAIN. Remember my poverty and my transgression, the wormwood and the gall.19 Ενθυμηθητι την θλιψιν μου και την εξωσιν μου, το αψινθιον και την χολην.
ZAIN. I will call to mind the past, and my soul shall languish within me.20 Η ψυχη μου ενθυμειται ταυτα ακαταπαυστως και ειναι τεταπεινωμενη εν εμοι.
ZAIN. These recollections are in my heart; therefore, I shall hope.21 Τουτο ανακαλω εις την καρδιαν μου, οθεν εχω ελπιδα?
HETH. By the mercies of the Lord, we are not consumed. For his compassion has not passed away.22 Ελεος του Κυριου ειναι, οτι δεν συνετελεσθημεν, επειδη δεν εξελιπον οι οικτιρμοι αυτου.
HETH. I know it at first light; great is your faithfulness.23 Ανανεονονται εν ταις πρωιαις? μεγαλη ειναι η πιστοτης σου.
HETH. “The Lord is my portion,” said my soul. Because of this, I will wait for him.24 Ο Κυριος ειναι η μερις μου, ειπεν η ψυχη μου? δια τουτο θελω ελπιζει επ' αυτον.
TETH. The Lord is good to those who hope in him, to the soul that seeks him.25 Αγαθος ο Κυριος εις τους προσμενοντας αυτον, εις την ψυχην την εκζητουσαν αυτον.
TETH. It is good to stand ready in silence for the salvation of God.26 Καλον ειναι και να ελπιζη τις και να εφησυχαζη εις την σωτηριαν του Κυριου.
TETH. It is good for a man, when he has carried the yoke from his youth.27 Καλον εις τον ανθρωπον να βασταζη ζυγον εν τη νεοτητι αυτου.
JOD. He shall sit solitary and silent. For he has lifted it upon himself.28 Θελει καθησθαι κατα μονας και σιωπα, επειδη ο Θεος επεβαλε φορτιον επ' αυτον.
JOD. He shall place his mouth in the dirt, if perhaps there may be hope.29 Θελει βαλει το στομα αυτου εις το χωμα, ισως ηναι ελπις.
JOD. He shall give his cheek to those who strike him; he shall be saturated with reproaches.30 Θελει δωσει την σιαγονα εις τον ραπιζοντα αυτον? θελει χορτασθη απο ονειδισμου.
CAPH. For the Lord will not rebuke forever.31 Διοτι ο Κυριος δεν απορριπτει εις τον αιωνα?
CAPH. For, if he has cast down, he will also have compassion, according to the multitude of his mercies.32 Αλλ' εαν και θλιψη, θελει ομως και οικτειρησει κατα το πληθος του ελεους αυτου.
CAPH. For he has not humiliated from his heart, nor has he thrown aside the sons of men,33 Διοτι δεν θλιβει εκ καρδιας αυτου ουδε καταθλιβει τους υιους των ανθρωπων.
LAMED. as if to crush under his feet all the prisoners of the land,34 Το να καταπατη τις υπο τους ποδας αυτου παντας τους δεσμιους της γης.
LAMED. as if to turn aside the judgment of a man in the sight of the presence of the Most High,35 Το να διαστρεφη κρισιν ανθρωπου κατεναντι του προσωπου του Υψιστου?
LAMED. as if to pervert a man in his judgment: the Lord does not do this.36 Το να αδικη ανθρωπον εν τη δικη αυτου? ο Κυριος δεν βλεπει ταυτα.
MEM. Who is this, who said to do what the Lord did not command?37 Τις λεγει τι και γινεται, χωρις να προσταξη αυτο ο Κυριος;
MEM. Does not both misfortune and good proceed from the mouth of the Most High?38 Εκ του στοματος του Υψιστου δεν εξερχονται τα κακα και τα αγαθα;
MEM. Why has a living man murmured, a man suffering for his sins?39 Δια τι ηθελε γογγυσει ανθρωπος ζων, ανθρωπος, δια την ποινην της αμαρτιας αυτου;
NUN. Let us examine our ways, and seek out, and return to the Lord.40 Ας ερευνησωμεν τας οδους ημων και ας εξετασωμεν και ας επιστρεψωμεν εις τον Κυριον.
NUN. Let us lift up our hearts, with our hands, toward the Lord in the heavens.41 Ας υψωσωμεν τας καρδιας ημων και τας χειρας προς τον Θεον τον εν τοις ουρανοις, λεγοντες,
NUN. We have acted sinfully, and we have provoked to wrath. About this, you are relentless.42 Ημαρτησαμεν και απεστατησαμεν? συ δεν μας συνεχωρησας.
SAMECH. You have covered us in your fury, and you have struck us. You have killed, and have not spared.43 Περιεκαλυψας με θυμον και κατεδιωξας ημας? εφονευσας, δεν εφεισθης.
SAMECH. You have set a cloud opposite you, lest our prayer pass through.44 Εκαλυψας σεαυτον με νεφος, δια να μη διαβαινη η προσευχη ημων.
SAMECH. In the midst of the peoples, you have uprooted me and cast me out.45 Μας εκαμες σκυβαλον και βδελυγμα εν μεσω των λαων.
PHE. All our enemies have opened their mouths over us.46 Παντες οι εχθροι ημων ηνοιξαν το στομα αυτων εφ' ημας.
PHE. Prediction has become for us a dread, and a snare, and a grief.47 Φοβος και λακκος ηλθον εφ' ημας, ερημωσις και συντριμμος.
PHE. My eye has brought forth streams of water at the contrition of the daughter of my people.48 Ρυακας υδατων καταβιβαζει ο οφθαλμος μου δια τον συντριμμον της θυγατρος του λαου μου.
AIN. My eye has been afflicted, and it has not been quieted, because there would be no rest49 Ο οφθαλμος μου σταλαζει και δεν σιωπα, διοτι δεν εχει ανεσιν,
AIN. until the Lord looked down and saw from the heavens.50 Εωσου ο Κυριος διακυψη και ιδη εξ ουρανου.
AIN. My eye has exhausted my soul over every one of the daughters of my city.51 Ο οφθαλμος μου καταθλιβει την ψυχην μου, εκ πασων των θυγατερων της πολεως μου.
SADE. My enemies have chased me, and they have caught me like a bird, without reason.52 Οι εχθρευομενοι με αναιτιως με εκυνηγησαν ακαταπαυστως ως στρουθιον.
SADE. My life has fallen into a pit, and they have placed a stone over me.53 Εκοψαν την ζωην μου εν τω λακκω και ερριψαν λιθον επ' εμε.
SADE. The waters have flooded over my head. I said, “I am lost.”54 Τα υδατα επλημμυρησαν υπερανω της κεφαλης μου? ειπα, Απερριφθην.
COPH. I called upon your name, O Lord, from the furthest pit.55 Επεκαλεσθην το ονομα σου, Κυριε, εκ λακκου κατωτατου.
COPH. You have heard my voice. Do not turn away your ear from my sobbing and my cries.56 Ηκουσας την φωνην μου? μη κλεισης το ωτιον σου εις τον στεναγμον μου, εις την κραυγην μου.
COPH. You drew near in the daytime, when I called upon you. You said, “Fear not.”57 Επλησιασας καθ' ην ημεραν σε επεκαλεσθην? ειπας, Μη φοβου.
RES. You have judged, O Lord, the case of my soul. You are the Redeemer of my life.58 Εδικασας, Κυριε, την δικην της ψυχης μου? ελυτρωσας την ζωην μου.
RES. You have seen, O Lord, their iniquity against me. Judge my case.59 Ειδες, Κυριε, το προς εμε αδικον? κρινον την κρισιν μου.
RES. You have seen all their fury, every one of their thoughts is against me.60 Ειδες πασας τας εκδικησεις αυτων, παντας τους διαλογισμους αυτων κατ' εμου.
SIN. You have heard their reproach, O Lord, all their thoughts are against me.61 Ηκουσας, Κυριε, τον ονειδισμον αυτων, παντας τους διαλογισμους αυτων κατ' εμου?
SIN. The lips of those who rise up against me, and their meditations, are against me all day long.62 Τους λογους των επανισταμενων επ' εμε και τας μελετας αυτων κατ' εμου ολην την ημεραν.
SIN. Watch their sitting down and their rising up: I am their psalm.63 Ιδε, οταν καθηνται και οταν σηκονωνται? εγω ειμαι το ασμα αυτων.
THAU. You shall pay a recompense to them, O Lord, according to the works of their hands.64 Καμε, Κυριε, εις αυτους ανταποδοσιν κατα τα εργα των χειρων αυτων.
THAU. You shall give them a heavy shield of the heart: your hardship.65 Δος εις αυτους πωρωσιν καρδιας, την καταραν? σου επ' αυτους.
THAU. You shall pursue them in fury, and you shall destroy them under the heavens, O Lord.66 Καταδιωξον εν οργη και αφανισον αυτους υποκατωθεν των ουρανων του Κυριου.
