Jeremiah 39

1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah, the king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem, with his entire army, and they besieged it.	1 La neuvième année de Sédécias, roi de Juda, au dixième mois, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, vint avec toute son armée devant Jérusalem, et ils l'assiégèrent.
2 Then, in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the fifth of the month, the city was opened.	2 (Mais) La onzième année de Sédécias, le cinquième jour du quatrième mois, la (une) brèche fut faite à la ville ;line et tous les princes du roi de Babylone entrèrent, et se tinrent à la porte du milieu : Nérégel, Séréser, Sémégarnabu, Sarsachim, Rabsarès, Nérégel, Séréser, Rebmag, et tous les autres princes du roi de Babylone.
3 And all the rulers of the king of Babylon entered and were seated at the middle gate: Nergal-Sharezer, the priest of Nebo, Sarsechim, the chief eunuch, Nergal-Sharezer, the chief magi, and all the other rulers of the king of Babylon.
4 And when Zedekiah, the king of Judah, with all the men of war, had seen them, they fled. And they departed from the city at night, by way of the king’s garden, and through the gate which was between the two walls. And they departed along the way of the desert.	4 Lorsque Sédécias, roi de Juda, et tous les hommes de guerre les eurent vus (aperçus), ils s'enfuirent ; et ils sortirent la nuit de la ville par le chemin du jardin du roi, et par la porte qui était entre les deux murs, et ils gagnèrent (se dirigèrent vers) le chemin du désert.
5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued them. And they overtook Zedekiah in the plain of the desert of Jericho. And having captured him, they led him to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, at Riblah, which is in the land of Hamath. And he declared a judgment against him	5 Mais l'armée des Chaldéens les poursuivit, et ils prirent Sédécias dans la campagne du désert de Jéricho, et ils l'amenèrent prisonnier à Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, à Réblatha, qui est dans le pays d'Emath ; et Nabuchodonosor lui prononça son arrêt.
6 And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah, at Riblah, before his eyes. And the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah.	6 Et le roi de Babylone mit à mort à Réblatha les deux fils de Sédécias sous ses yeux ; et le roi de Babylone fit aussi mourir tous les nobles de Juda.
7 Also, he plucked out the eyes of Zedekiah. And he bound him with fetters, to be led away to Babylon.	7 Puis il fit arracher les yeux à Sédécias, et le fit lier avec des chaînes, pour qu'on l'emmenât à Babylone.
8 Also, the Chaldeans burned the house of the king and the house of the people with fire, and they overturned the wall of Jerusalem.	8 Les Chaldéens brûlèrent aussi par le feu le palais du roi et les maisons du peuple, et ils renversèrent le(s) mur(s) de Jérusalem.
9 And Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, carried away captive to Babylon the remnant of the people who had remained in the city, and the fugitives who had fled to him, and all the rest of the people who had remained.	9 Et Nabuzardan, chef de l'armée (la milice), transporta à Babylone les restes du peuple, qui étaient demeurés dans la ville, les fugitifs (transfuges) qui s'étaient réfugiés auprès de lui, et le reste du peuple qui était resté.
10 And Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, released some of the poor people, those who had almost nothing, into the land of Judah. And he gave them vineyards and cisterns in that day.	10 Quant aux plus (à la foule des) pauvres du peuple, qui n'avaient absolument rien, Nabuzardan, chef de l'armée (la milice), les laissa dans le pays de Juda, et il leur donna des vignes et des citernes en ce jour-là.
11 Now Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had instructed Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, about Jeremiah, saying:	11 Mais Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, avait donné à Nabuzardan, chef de l'armée, cet ordre concernant Jérémie, en disant :
12 “Take him, and set your eyes on him, and you shall do no harm to him at all. But as he is willing, so shall you do with him.”	12 Prends-le et aie les yeux sur lui, et ne lui fais aucun mal, et agis envers lui selon ce qu'il voudra.
13 Therefore, Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, sent, and Nebushazban, the chief eunuch, and Nergal-Sharezer, the chief magi, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon sent,	13 Nabuzardan, chef de l'armée (la milice), Nabusezban, Rabsarès, Nérégel, Séréser, Rebmag, et tous les grands du roi de Babylone,
14 and they took Jeremiah from the vestibule of the prison, and they delivered him to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, so that he could enter a house and live among the people.	14 envoyèrent donc chercher Jérémie, et ils le firent sortir du vestibule de la prison, et ils le remirent à Godolias, fils d'Ahicam, fils de Saphan, afin qu'il entrât dans une maison, et qu'il habitât au milieu du peuple.
15 But the word of the Lord had come to Jeremiah, when he had been confined to the vestibule of the prison, saying: “Go, and speak to Ebedmelech, the Ethiopian, saying:	15 Mais la parole du Seigneur avait été adressée à Jérémie en ces termes, lorsqu'il était enfermé dans le vestibule de la prison :
16 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring my words over this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be in your sight in that day.	16 Va, et dis à Abdémélech l'Ethiopien : Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : Voici, je vais accomplir mes prédictions sur cette ville, pour son mal et non pour son bien ; et elles arriveront en ce jour-là devant toi.
17 And I will free you in that day, says the Lord. And you will not be delivered into the hands of the men whom you dread.	17 En ce jour je te délivrerai, dit le Seigneur, et tu ne seras pas livré entre les mains des hommes que tu redoutes ;
18 But when delivering, I will free you. And you will not fall by the sword. Instead, your life will be saved for you, because you had faith in me, says the Lord.”	18 mais je t'en tirerai et te délivrerai, et tu ne tomberas pas sous le glaive ; mais tu sauveras ta vie, parce que tu as été confiant en moi, dit le Seigneur.
