| 1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David. | 1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God, I seek thee, my soul thirsts for thee; my flesh faints for thee, as in a dry and weary land where no water is. |
| 2 Hear, O God, my prayer of supplication. Rescue my soul from the fear of the enemy. | 2 So I have looked upon thee in the sanctuary, beholding thy power and glory. |
| 3 You have protected me from the assembly of the malignant, from a multitude of workers of iniquity. | 3 Because thy steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise thee. |
| 4 For they have sharpened their tongues like a sword; they have formed their bow into a bitter thing, | 4 So I will bless thee as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on thy name. |
| 5 so that they may shoot arrows from hiding at the immaculate. | 5 My soul is feasted as with marrow and fat, and my mouth praises thee with joyful lips, |
| 6 They will suddenly shoot arrows at him, and they will not be afraid. They are resolute in their wicked talk. They have discussed hidden snares. They have said, “Who will see them?” | 6 when I think of thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the watches of the night; |
| 7 They have been searching carefully for iniquities. Their exhaustive search has failed. Man will approach with a deep heart, | 7 for thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of thy wings I sing for joy. |
| 8 and God will be exalted. The arrows of the little ones have become their wounds, | 8 My soul clings to thee; thy right hand upholds me. |
| 9 and their tongues have been weakened against them. All those who saw them have been troubled; | 9 But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth; |
| 10 and every man was afraid. And they announced the works of God, and they understood his acts. | 10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword, they shall be prey for jackals. |
| 11 The just will rejoice in the Lord, and they will hope in him. And all the upright of heart will be praised. | 11 But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall glory; for the mouths of liars will be stopped. |
