1 A Canticle in steps. They have often fought against me from my youth, let Israel now say:	1 (Salmo graduale). Molto mi han tormentato fin dalla mia giovinezza, (può dire ora Israele).
2 they have often fought against me from my youth, yet they could not prevail over me.	2 Molto mi hanno tormentato dalla mia giovinezza, ma non mi han potuto vincere.
3 The sinners have made fabrications behind my back. They have prolonged their iniquity.	3 Sopra le mie spalle fabbricarono i peccatori e prolungarono la loro iniquità.
4 The just Lord will cut the necks of sinners.	4 Ma il giusto Signore ha troncato le teste dei peccatori.
5 Let all those who hate Zion be confounded and turned backwards.	5 Sian confusi e voltino le spalle tutti quelli che odiano Sionne.
6 Let them be like grass on the rooftops, which withers before it can be pulled up:	6 Diventino come l'erba dei tetti, che prima d'essere svelta si secca:
7 with it, he who reaps does not fill his hand and he who gathers sheaves does not fill his bosom.	7 Colla quale non empie il pugno il mietitore, nè il seno colui che raccoglie manipoli.
8 And those who were passing by have not said to them: “The blessing of the Lord be upon you. We have blessed you in the name of the Lord.”	8 Quelli che passano non dicono: « La benedizione del Signore sopra di voi, noi vi benediciamo nel nome del Signore ».
