1 But Baldad the Suhite, responding, said:	1 Bildad di Suach prese a dire:
2 How long will you speak this way, so that the words of your mouth are like a changeable wind?	2 «Fino a quando dirai queste cose e vento impetuoso saranno le parole della tua bocca?
3 Does God supplant judgment, or does the Almighty subvert that which is just?	3 Può forse Dio sovvertire il diritto o l’Onnipotente sovvertire la giustizia?
4 And if now your children have sinned against him, and he has dismissed them into the power of their iniquity,	4 Se i tuoi figli hanno peccato contro di lui, li ha abbandonati in balìa delle loro colpe.
5 even so, you should arise early to God, so as to beseech the Almighty.	5 Se tu cercherai Dio e implorerai l’Onnipotente,
6 If you approach with purity and honesty, he will quickly be attentive to you, and a peaceful life will repay your righteousness,	6 se puro e integro tu sarai, allora egli veglierà su di te e renderà prospera la dimora della tua giustizia;
7 so much so that, if your former things were small, your latter things would be multiplied greatly.	7 anzi, piccola cosa sarà la tua condizione di prima e quella futura sarà molto più grande.
8 For inquire of the earliest generation, and investigate diligently the history of the fathers,	8 Chiedilo infatti alle generazioni passate, considera l’esperienza dei loro padri,
9 (of course, we are but of yesterday and are ignorant that our days on earth are like a shadow,)	9 perché noi siamo di ieri e nulla sappiamo, un’ombra sono i nostri giorni sulla terra.
10 and they will teach you; they will speak with you and will offer you the eloquence of their hearts.	10 Non ti istruiranno e non ti parleranno traendo dal cuore le loro parole?
11 Can the marsh plant live without moisture? Or can sedges grow without water?	11 Cresce forse il papiro fuori della palude e si sviluppa forse il giunco senz’acqua?
12 When it is still in flower, and has not been pulled up by hand, it withers before all other plants.	12 Ancora verde, non buono per tagliarlo, inaridirebbe prima di ogni altra erba.
13 Just so are the ways of all who forget God, and the hope of the hypocrite will perish.	13 Tale è la sorte di chi dimentica Dio, così svanisce la speranza dell’empio;
14 His frenzy will not please him, and his faith will be like a spider’s web.	14 la sua fiducia è come un filo e una tela di ragno è la sua sicurezza:
15 He will lean on his house, and it will not stand; he will prop it up, but it will not rise.	15 se si appoggia alla sua casa, essa non resiste, se vi si aggrappa, essa non regge.
16 He seems to have moisture before the sun arrives; and at sunrise, his sprout shoots forth.	16 Rigoglioso si mostra in faccia al sole e sopra il giardino si spandono i suoi rami,
17 His roots will crowd together over a heap of stones, and among the stones he will remain.	17 sul terreno sassoso s’intrecciano le sue radici e tra le pietre si abbarbica.
18 If someone is devoured right beside him, he will deny him and will say: “I do not know you.”	18 Ma se lo si strappa dal suo luogo, questo lo rinnega: “Non ti ho mai visto!”.
19 For this is the benefit of his way, that others in turn may spring up from the earth.	19 Ecco la gioia del suo destino e dalla terra altri rispuntano.
20 God will not discard the simple, nor will he extend his hand to the spiteful,	20 Dunque, Dio non rigetta l’uomo integro e non sostiene la mano dei malfattori.
21 even until your mouth is filled with laughter and your lips with rejoicing.	21 Colmerà di nuovo la tua bocca di sorriso e le tue labbra di gioia.
22 Those who hate you, will be clothed with confusion, and the tabernacle of the impious will not continue.	22 I tuoi nemici saranno coperti di vergogna, la tenda degli empi più non sarà».
