1 Samuel 8

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges of Israel.	1 ORA, quando Samuele fu divenuto vecchio, costituì i suoi figliuoli Giudici ad Israele.
2 His eldest son was cal ed Joel and his second one, Abijah; they were judges at Beersheba.	2 E il nome del suo figliuolo primogenito era Ioel, e il nome del suo secondo era Abia; i quali tenevano ragione in Beerseba.
3 His sons did not fol ow his example but, seduced by the love of money, took bribes and gave biasedverdicts.	3 Ma i suoi figliuoli non camminarono nelle vie di esso, anzi si rivolsero dietro all’avarizia, e prendevano presenti, e pervertivano la ragione
4 The elders of Israel all assembled, went back to Samuel at Ramah, and said,	4 Laonde tutti gli Anziani d’Israele si adunarono insieme, e vennero a Samuele in Rama, e gli dissero:
5 'Look, you are old, and your sons are not fol owing your example. So give us a king to judge us, like theother nations.'	5 Ecco, tu sei divenuto vecchio, e i tuoi figliuoli non camminano nelle tue vie; ora dunque costituisci sopra noi un re che ci giudichi, come hanno tutte le altre nazioni.
6 Samuel thought that it was wrong of them to say, 'Let us have a king to judge us,' so he prayed toYahweh.	6 E la cosa dispiacque a Samuele, quando dissero: Dacci un re che ci giudichi. Ed egli fece orazione al Signore.
7 But Yahweh said to Samuel, 'Obey the voice of the people in al that they say to you: it is not you theyhave rejected	7 E il Signore disse a Samuele: Acconsenti alla voce del popolo, in tutto ciò ch’egli ti dirà; perciocchè essi non hanno sdegnato te, anzi hanno sdegnato me, acciocchè io non regni sopra loro.
8 but me, not wishing me to reign over them any more. They are now doing to you exactly what they havedone to me since the day I brought them out of Egypt until now, deserting me and serving other gods.	8 Secondo tutte le opere che hanno fatte dal dì che io li trassi fuori di Egitto, fino ad oggi, per le quali mi hanno abbandonato, e hanno servito ad altri dii; così fanno ancora a te.
9 So, do what they ask; only, you must give them a solemn warning, and must tell them what the kingwho is to reign over them will do.'	9 Ora dunque acconsenti alla voce loro; ma tuttavia del tutto protesta, e dichiara loro la ragione del re, che regnerà sopra loro.
10 Everything that Yahweh had said, Samuel then repeated to the people who were asking him for aking.	10 E Samuele rapportò tutte le parole del Signore al popolo, che gli chiedeva un re.
11 He said, 'This is what the king who is to reign over you wil do. He wil take your sons and direct themto his chariotry and cavalry, and they wil run in front of his chariot.	11 E disse: Questa sarà la ragione del re che regnerà sopra voi: Egli piglierà i vostri figliuoli, e li metterà sopra i suoi carri, e fra i suoi cavalieri, ed essi correranno davanti al suo carro.
12 He wil use them as leaders of a thousand and leaders of fifty; he wil make them plough his fields andgather in his harvest and make his weapons of war and the gear for his chariots.	12 Li prenderà eziandio per constituirseli capitani di migliaia, e capitani di cinquantine; e per arare i suoi campi, e per far la sua ricolta, e per fabbricar le sue armi, e gli arnesi de’ suoi carri.
13 He wil take your daughters as perfumers, cooks and bakers.	13 Egli prenderà eziandio le vostre figliuole per profumiere, e cuoche, e panattiere.
14 He wil take the best of your fields, your vineyards and your olive groves and give them to his officials.	14 Piglierà ancora i vostri campi, e le vostre vigne, e i vostri migliori uliveti, e li donerà a’ suoi servitori.
15 He wil tithe your crops and vineyards to provide for his courtiers and his officials.	15 Egli torrà eziandio le decime delle vostre semente, e delle vostre vigne, e le donerà a’ suoi ufficiali, e a’ suoi servitori.
16 He wil take the best of your servants, men and women, of your oxen and your donkeys, and makethem work for him.	16 Piglierà eziandio i vostri servi, e le vostre serve, e il fior de’ vostri giovani, e i vostri asini, e li adopererà al suo lavoro.
17 He wil tithe your flocks, and you yourselves wil become his slaves.	17 Egli prenderà la decima delle vostre gregge; e voi gli sarete servi.
18 When that day comes, you wil cry aloud because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, but onthat day Yahweh wil not hear you.'	18 E in quel giorno voi griderete per cagione del vostro re, che vi avrete eletto; ma il Signore allora non vi esaudirà.
19 The people, however, refused to listen to Samuel. They said, 'No! We are determined to have a king,	19 Ma il popolo ricusò di ascoltar le parole di Samuele, e disse: No; anzi vi sarà un re sopra noi.
20 so that we can be like the other nations, with our own king to rule us and lead us and fight our battles.'	20 E noi ancora saremo come tutte le altre genti; e il nostro re ci giudicherà, e uscirà davanti a noi, e condurrà le nostre guerre.
21 Samuel listened to al that the people had to say and repeated it in Yahweh's ear.	21 Samuele adunque, avendo udite tutte le parole del popolo, le rapportò agli orecchi del Signore.
22 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'Do as they ask and give them a king.' Samuel then said to theIsraelites, 'Go home, each of you, to his own town.'	22 E il Signore disse a Samuele: Acconsenti alla voce loro, e costituisci loro un re. E Samuele disse agl’Israeliti: Andatevene ciascuno alla sua città
