NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Now by the time David and his men reached Ziklag three days later, the Amalekites had raided theNegeb and Ziklag; they had sacked Ziklag and burnt it down.	1 Quando Davide e i suoi uomini giunsero a Ziklàg al terzo giorno, gli Amaleciti avevano fatto razzie nel Negheb e a Ziklàg: avevano distrutto Ziklàg dandola alle fiamme.
2 They had taken the women prisoner, and everyone who was there, both smal and great. They had notkil ed anyone, but had carried them off and gone away.	2 Avevano fatto prigioniere tutte le donne e quanti vi erano, dal più piccolo al più grande; non avevano ucciso nessuno, ma li avevano condotti via riprendendo la loro strada.
3 When David and his men arrived, they found the town burnt down and their wives and sons anddaughters taken captive.	3 Davide giunse dunque con i suoi uomini alla città. Ecco, essa era incenerita dal fuoco; le loro donne, i loro figli e le loro figlie erano stati fatti prigionieri.
4 Then David and the people with him wept aloud til they were too weak to weep any more.	4 Allora Davide e la truppa che era con lui levarono la loro voce in pianto, finché non ebbero più in sé forza di piangere.
5 David's two wives had been captured: Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel.	5 Anche le due mogli di Davide erano state fatte prigioniere: Achinoàm di Izreèl e Abigail, già moglie di Nabal da Carmel.
6 David was in great trouble, since the people were talking of stoning him; the people al felt very bitter,each man for his own sons and daughters. But David took courage from Yahweh his God.	6 Davide si trovò in grande angustia perché la truppa parlava di lapidarlo. Tutti avevano l'animo esasperato, ognuno per i propri figli e le proprie figlie. Ma Davide si aggrappò al Signore, suo Dio.
7 To the priest Abiathar son of Ahimelech, David said, 'Bring me the ephod.' Abiathar brought the ephodto David.	7 Davide disse al sacerdote Ebiatar, figlio di Achimelech: "Portami l'efod". Ebiatar portò l'efod a Davide.
8 David then consulted Yahweh, 'Shal I go in pursuit of these raiders? Wil I overtake them?' Theanswer was, 'Go in pursuit; you will certainly overtake them and rescue the captives.'	8 Davide consultò il Signore e domandò: "Devo inseguire quella banda? La raggiungerò?". Gli rispose: "Inseguila, la raggiungerai e libererai i prigionieri".
9 David accordingly set off with the six hundred men who were with him and reached the torrent ofBesor.	9 Davide partì dunque con i seicento uomini che aveva e giunse fino al torrente di Besor, ma un gruppo si fermò.
10 David then continued the pursuit with four hundred men, two hundred staying behind who were tooexhausted to cross the torrent of Besor.	10 Davide proseguì l'inseguimento con quattrocento uomini, mentre duecento si erano fermati così affaticati da non poter attraversare il torrente di Besor.
11 Out in the country they found an Egyptian and brought him to David. They gave him some bread toeat and some water to drink;	11 Trovarono un egiziano nella steppa e lo condussero a Davide. Gli dettero pane da mangiare, gli fecero bere dell'acqua
12 they also gave him a piece of fig cake and two bunches of raisins; he ate these and his spirits revived-- he had had nothing to eat or drink for three days and three nights.	12 e gli offrirono una tortella di fichi secchi con due grappoli di uva passa. Egli mangiò e si sentì rivivere, perché non aveva preso cibo e bevuto acqua per tre giorni e tre notti.
13 David then said to him, 'Whose man are you and where do you come from?' He replied, 'I am ayoung Egyptian, the slave of an Amalekite; my master abandoned me because I fel sick three days ago.	13 Davide gli domandò: "A chi appartieni e di dove sei?". Rispose: "Io sono un giovane egiziano, schiavo di un Amalecita; il mio padrone mi ha abbandonato perché mi sono ammalato tre giorni fa.
14 We raided the Negeb of the Cherethites, and the Negeb of Judah, and the Negeb of Caleb too, andwe burnt Ziklag down.'	14 Abbiamo fatto razzie nel Negheb dei Cretei, in quello di Giuda e nel Negheb di Caleb, e abbiamo dato fuoco a Ziklàg".
15 David said, 'Wil you guide me to these raiders?' He replied, 'Swear to me by God not to kill me orhand me over to my master, and I wil guide you to these raiders.'	15 Davide gli domandò: "Mi vuoi guidare verso quella banda?". Gli rispose: "Giurami per Dio che non mi farai morire e non mi consegnerai al mio padrone, e ti guiderò verso quella banda".
16 He guided him to them, and there they were, scattered over the whole countryside, eating, drinkingand celebrating, on account of the enormous booty which they had brought back from the territory of thePhilistines and the territory of Judah.	16 E ve lo guidò. Ed eccoli sparpagliati su tutta l'estensione della regione: mangiavano, bevevano e facevano festa per tutta la grande preda che avevano asportato dalla terra dei Filistei e dalla terra di Giuda.
17 David slaughtered them from dawn until the evening of the following day. No one escaped, exceptfour hundred young men who mounted camels and fled.	17 Davide li batté dall'alba fino alla sera del giorno seguente. Non se ne salvò nessuno, se non quattrocento giovani i quali, montati sui cammelli, si dettero alla fuga.
18 He rescued everything that the Amalekites had taken -- David also rescued his two wives.	18 Davide salvò tutto quello che Amalek aveva preso, anche le sue due mogli.
19 Nothing of theirs was lost, whether smal or great, from the booty or sons and daughters -- everythingthat had been taken from them; David recovered everything.	19 Non mancò loro niente, dal più piccolo al più grande, dai figli alle figlie, dalla preda fino a tutto quello che si erano preso: Davide ricuperò tutto.
20 They captured the flocks and herds as wel and drove them in front of him. 'This is David's booty,'they shouted.	20 Davide prese tutto il gregge e l'armento. Condussero davanti a lui quel bestiame dicendo: "Questa è preda di Davide".
21 When David reached the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow him and whom hehad left at the torrent of Besor, they came out to meet David and the party accompanying him; Davidapproached with his party and greeted them.	21 Poi Davide arrivò dai duecento uomini che erano rimasti spossati per seguire Davide e furono lasciati al torrente di Besor; questi uscirono incontro a Davide e alla truppa che era con lui. Allora Davide si avvicinò con la truppa e domandò loro se stessero bene.
22 But al the rogues and scoundrels among the men who had gone with David began saying, 'Sincethey did not go with us, we shal not give them any of the booty which we have rescued, except that each ofthem can have his wife and children. Let them take them away and be off.'	22 Intanto alcuni cattivi e perversi individui tra gli uomini che erano andati con Davide presero a dire: "Poiché non sono venuti con noi, non daremo niente della preda che abbiamo ricuperato, eccetto la moglie e i figli di ciascuno: li conducano via e se ne vadano".
23 But David said, 'Do not behave like this, brothers, with what Yahweh has given us; he has protectedus and has handed over to us the raiders who attacked us.	23 Davide rispose: "Non fate così, fratelli miei, con quello che il Signore ci ha dato! Ci ha protetti e ha consegnato in nostro potere quella banda venuta contro di noi.
24 Who would agree with you on this? No: As the share of the man who goes into battle, so is the shareof the man who stays with the baggage. They wil share alike.'	24 Chi vi darà ascolto in questa proposta? Perché, quale la parte di chi scende in battaglia, tale la parte di chi rimane presso i bagagli: faranno le parti insieme!".
25 And from that day on, he made that a rule and custom for Israel, which obtains to the present day.	25 Da quel giorno in poi impose questa decisione come legge e norma a Israele fino ad oggi.
26 When David reached Ziklag, he sent parts of the booty to the elders of Judah, town by town, with thismessage, 'Here is a present for you, taken from the booty of Yahweh's enemies':	26 Quando Davide rientrò a Ziklàg, mandò parte della preda agli anziani di Giuda, suoi amici, dicendo: "Eccovi una benedizione, parte della preda dei nemici del Signore!":
27 to those in Bethel, to those in Ramoth of the Negeb,	27 a quelli di Betel, a quelli di Rama nel Negheb, a quelli di Iattìr;
28 to those in Jattir, to those in Aroer, to those in Siphmoth, to those in Eshtemoa,	28 a quelli di Aroer, a quelli di Sifmòt, a quelli di Estemoà;
29 to those in Carmel, to those in the towns of Jerahmeel, to those in the towns of the Kenites,	29 a quelli di Ràcal, a quelli delle città degli Ieracmeeliti, a quelli delle città dei Keniti;
30 to those in Hormah, to those in Borashan, to those in Athach,	30 a quelli di Corma, a quelli di Bor-Asàn, a quelli di Atach;
31 to those in Hebron and to al the places which David and his men had frequented.	31 a quelli di Ebron e a tutte le località dove Davide era andato vagando con i suoi uomini.
