1 Now by the time David and his men reached Ziklag three days later, the Amalekites had raided theNegeb and Ziklag; they had sacked Ziklag and burnt it down.	1 David arriva le surlendemain à Siklag avec ses hommes. Or les Amalécites avaient fait un raid dans le Négueb jusqu’à Siklag, ils avaient frappé la ville et l’avaient incendiée.
2 They had taken the women prisoner, and everyone who was there, both smal and great. They had notkil ed anyone, but had carried them off and gone away.	2 Ils avaient capturé les femmes et tous ceux qui s’y trouvaient, petits et grands, mais sans tuer personne; et ils avaient repris leur route en emmenant tout le monde.
3 When David and his men arrived, they found the town burnt down and their wives and sons anddaughters taken captive.	3 Lorsque David et ses compagnons arrivèrent à la ville, ils la trouvèrent incendiée: leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs filles avaient été emmenés.
4 Then David and the people with him wept aloud til they were too weak to weep any more.	4 David et le peuple qui l’accompagnait se mirent à crier et à pleurer jusqu’à ce qu’ils n’aient plus la force de pleurer.
5 David's two wives had been captured: Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel.	5 Les deux femmes de David, Ahinoam de Yizréel et Abigayil femme de Nabal de Karmel, avaient été aussi emmenées captives.
6 David was in great trouble, since the people were talking of stoning him; the people al felt very bitter,each man for his own sons and daughters. But David took courage from Yahweh his God.	6 David se vit dans une grande détresse car ses gens parlaient de le lapider, tellement chacun se désespérait à cause de ses fils et de ses filles. Mais David reprit courage en Yahvé son Dieu.
7 To the priest Abiathar son of Ahimelech, David said, 'Bring me the ephod.' Abiathar brought the ephodto David.	7 David dit au prêtre Ébyatar, fils d’Ahimélek: “Apporte-moi l’éphod.” Ébyatar apporta l’éphod à David.
8 David then consulted Yahweh, 'Shal I go in pursuit of these raiders? Wil I overtake them?' Theanswer was, 'Go in pursuit; you will certainly overtake them and rescue the captives.'	8 David consulta Yahvé: “Dois-je poursuivre cette bande? Est-ce que je la rattraperai?” La réponse fut: “Poursuis-les, tu les rattraperas et tu délivreras les captifs.”
9 David accordingly set off with the six hundred men who were with him and reached the torrent ofBesor.	9 David partit; 600 compagnons marchèrent avec lui jusqu’au torrent de Bésor,
10 David then continued the pursuit with four hundred men, two hundred staying behind who were tooexhausted to cross the torrent of Besor.	10 mais 400 seulement continuèrent la poursuite avec David, car les 200 autres s’étaient arrêtés, trop fatigués pour traverser le torrent de Bésor.
11 Out in the country they found an Egyptian and brought him to David. They gave him some bread toeat and some water to drink;	11 Ils trouvèrent dans la campagne un Égyptien et le conduisirent à David. Ils lui donnèrent du pain et de l’eau, il mangea et il but.
12 they also gave him a piece of fig cake and two bunches of raisins; he ate these and his spirits revived-- he had had nothing to eat or drink for three days and three nights.	12 Ils lui donnèrent encore une tranche d’un gâteau de figues et deux grappes de raisins secs, il mangea et ses esprits lui revinrent, car il n’avait pas mangé ni bu depuis trois jours et trois nuits.
13 David then said to him, 'Whose man are you and where do you come from?' He replied, 'I am ayoung Egyptian, the slave of an Amalekite; my master abandoned me because I fel sick three days ago.	13 David lui dit: “À qui appartiens-tu et d’où viens-tu?” Il dit: “Je suis un jeune Égyptien esclave d’un Amalécite; mon maître m’a abandonné depuis trois jours car j’étais malade.
14 We raided the Negeb of the Cherethites, and the Negeb of Judah, and the Negeb of Caleb too, andwe burnt Ziklag down.'	14 Nous avons fait une expédition dans le Négueb des Kérétiens, dans le Négueb de Juda et dans le Négueb de Caleb; nous avons brûlé Siklag.”
15 David said, 'Wil you guide me to these raiders?' He replied, 'Swear to me by God not to kill me orhand me over to my master, and I wil guide you to these raiders.'	15 David lui dit: “Peux-tu nous conduire vers ces pillards?” Il répondit: “Jure-moi par ton Dieu de ne pas me tuer et de ne pas me livrer à mon maître, et je te conduirai vers ces pillards.”
16 He guided him to them, and there they were, scattered over the whole countryside, eating, drinkingand celebrating, on account of the enormous booty which they had brought back from the territory of thePhilistines and the territory of Judah.	16 Il le conduisit donc. Les pillards étaient dispersés, mangeant, buvant, faisant la fête avec tout le butin qu’ils avaient ramassé au pays des Philistins et au pays de Juda.
17 David slaughtered them from dawn until the evening of the following day. No one escaped, exceptfour hundred young men who mounted camels and fled.	17 David les massacra depuis l’aube jusqu’au soir et les extermina, pas un d’entre eux n’échappa sauf 400 jeunes qui s’étaient enfuis sur des chameaux.
18 He rescued everything that the Amalekites had taken -- David also rescued his two wives.	18 David récupéra tout ce que les Amalécites avaient pris; il récupéra entre autres ses deux femmes.
19 Nothing of theirs was lost, whether smal or great, from the booty or sons and daughters -- everythingthat had been taken from them; David recovered everything.	19 Rien ne fut laissé aux Amalécites, petit ou grand, garçon ou fille; rien non plus de tout le butin qu’ils avaient ramassé: David ramena tout.
20 They captured the flocks and herds as wel and drove them in front of him. 'This is David's booty,'they shouted.	20 David prit leur petit et leur gros bétail, et l’on poussait ce troupeau devant lui en disant: “Voilà le butin de David!”
21 When David reached the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow him and whom hehad left at the torrent of Besor, they came out to meet David and the party accompanying him; Davidapproached with his party and greeted them.	21 Lorsque David arriva près des 200 hommes qui s’étaient arrêtés, trop fatigués, au torrent de Bésor, ils vinrent au-devant de lui et de la troupe qui l’accompagnait. David s’avança vers eux et les salua,
22 But al the rogues and scoundrels among the men who had gone with David began saying, 'Sincethey did not go with us, we shal not give them any of the booty which we have rescued, except that each ofthem can have his wife and children. Let them take them away and be off.'	22 mais parmi ceux qui l’accompagnaient, les plus mauvais et méchants prirent la parole: “Puisque ces hommes ne sont pas venus avec nous, nous ne leur donnerons rien du butin que nous avons récupéré. Nous ne leur rendrons que leurs femmes et leurs fils, ils les emmèneront et partiront.”
23 But David said, 'Do not behave like this, brothers, with what Yahweh has given us; he has protectedus and has handed over to us the raiders who attacked us.	23 Mais David leur dit: “Non, frères, ne faites pas cela après ce que Yahvé a fait pour vous. Voyez qu’il nous a protégés, il a livré entre nos mains cette bande de pillards qui étaient venus nous attaquer.
24 Who would agree with you on this? No: As the share of the man who goes into battle, so is the shareof the man who stays with the baggage. They wil share alike.'	24 Qui pourrait être d’accord avec vous? Le combattant et celui qui garde les bagages auront part égale.”
25 And from that day on, he made that a rule and custom for Israel, which obtains to the present day.	25 Depuis ce jour, cette façon de faire a été la règle et est devenue une coutume en Israël.
26 When David reached Ziklag, he sent parts of the booty to the elders of Judah, town by town, with thismessage, 'Here is a present for you, taken from the booty of Yahweh's enemies':	26 Une fois rentré à Siklag, David envoya une part du butin aux anciens de Juda; il leur dit: “Voici pour vous un cadeau sur le butin que nous avons pris aux ennemis de Yahvé.”
27 to those in Bethel, to those in Ramoth of the Negeb,	27 Il l’envoya à Bétoul, à Rama du Négueb, à Yattir,
28 to those in Jattir, to those in Aroer, to those in Siphmoth, to those in Eshtemoa,	28 à Aroër, à Sifmot, à Echtémoa,
29 to those in Carmel, to those in the towns of Jerahmeel, to those in the towns of the Kenites,	29 à Karmel, dans les villes de Yérahméel, dans les villes des Kénites,
30 to those in Hormah, to those in Borashan, to those in Athach,	30 à Horma, à Bor-Achan, à Éter,
31 to those in Hebron and to al the places which David and his men had frequented.	31 à Hébron, et dans tous les endroits que David avait fréquentés avec ses compagnons: chacun eut sa part.
