1 David then got up and left, and Jonathan went back to the town.	1 David se leva, partit, et Jonathan rentra dans la ville.
2 David then went to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech came out trembling to meet David andsaid, 'Why are you alone? Why is nobody with you?'	2 David arriva à Nob, chez le prêtre Ahimélek. Celui-ci vint en tremblant à la rencontre de David et lui demanda: “Pourquoi es-tu seul? Pourquoi n’y a-t-il personne avec toi?”
3 David replied to Ahimelech the priest, 'The king has given me an order and said to me, "Do not letanyone know anything about the mission on which I am sending you, or about the order which I have given you."I have arranged to meet the guards at such and such a place.	3 David répondit au prêtre Ahimélek: “Le roi m’a donné un ordre, il m’a dit: Personne ne doit connaître la mission que je t’ai confiée ni l’ordre que je t’ai donné. C’est pourquoi j’ai donné rendez-vous à mes hommes à tel endroit.
4 Meanwhile, if you have five loaves of bread to hand, give them to me, or whatever there is.'	4 Maintenant, qu’as-tu sous la main? Si tu as cinq pains ou autre chose, donne-les moi.”
5 The priest replied to David, 'I have no ordinary bread to hand; there are only consecrated loaves ofpermanent offering -- provided that the men have kept themselves from women?'	5 Le prêtre dit à David: “Je n’ai pas de pain ordinaire sous la main, seulement du pain consacré. Pourvu que tes hommes se soient gardés de toute relation avec une femme.”
6 David replied to the priest, 'Certainly, women have been forbidden to us, as always when I set off on acampaign. The men's things are clean. Though this is a profane journey, they are certainly clean today as far astheir things are concerned.'	6 David répondit au prêtre: “Certainement, la femme nous était interdite jusqu’ici chaque fois que je sortais; mes hommes restaient purs pour ce qui est du sexe, et il s’agissait d’expéditions profanes. À combien plus forte raison aujourd’hui. Ils sont tous en état de pureté quant au sexe.”
7 The priest then gave him what had been consecrated, for the only bread there was the loaves ofpermanent offering, which is taken out of Yahweh's presence, to be replaced by warm bread on the day when itis removed.	7 Alors le prêtre lui donna du pain consacré, car il n’y avait pas d’autre pain que les pains de proposition, celui qu’on enlève de devant Yahvé pour le remplacer par du pain frais le jour où on le reprend.
8 Now one of Saul's servants happened to be there that day, detained in Yahweh's presence; his namewas Doeg the Edomite and he was the strongest of Saul's shepherds.	8 Or, le même jour, l’un des serviteurs de Saül se trouvait là, retenu au sanctuaire de Yahvé; il s’appelait Doëg l’Édomite, et il était le plus considéré parmi les bergers de Saül.
9 David then said to Ahimelech, 'Have you no spear or sword here to hand? I did not bring either mysword or my weapons with me, because the king's business was urgent.'	9 David dit à Ahimélek: “N’as-tu pas ici sous la main une lance ou une épée? L’affaire du roi était si urgente que je n’ai pas pu prendre mon épée et mes armes.”
10 The priest replied, 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine whom you kil ed in the Val ey of the Terebinthis here, wrapped in a piece of clothing behind the ephod; if you care to take it, do so, for that is the only onehere.' David said, 'There is nothing like that one; give it to me.'	10 Le prêtre répondit: “L’épée du Philistin Goliath que tu as abattu dans la vallée du Térébinthe est ici, enveloppée dans un manteau derrière l’éphod. Si tu la veux, prends-la, il n’y en a pas d’autre.” David répondit: “Il n’y en a pas de pareille, donne-la-moi.”
11 David journeyed on and that day fled out of Saul's reach, going to Achish king of Gath.	11 Ce jour-là David s’enfuit loin de Saül et il arriva chez Akich, roi de Gat.
12 Achish's servants said to him, 'Is not this David, the king of the country? Was it not of him that theysang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David his tens of thousands?'	12 Les serviteurs d’Akich lui dirent: “Mais, majesté, c’est David! N’est-ce pas à son sujet que l’on dansait en chantant: Saül en a abattu mille, mais David en a tué dix mille?”
13 David pondered on these words and became very frightened of Achish king of Gath.	13 Ces réflexions inquiétèrent fortement David, il eut peur d’Akich, roi de Gat.
14 When their eyes were on him, he played the madman and, when they held him, he feigned lunacy.He drummed his feet on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard.	14 Alors David fit croire qu’il était devenu fou, il joua les débiles au milieu d’eux: il tambourinait sur les montants des portes et laissait couler sa bave sur sa barbe.
15 Achish said to his servants, 'You can see that this man is mad. Why bring him to me?	15 Akich dit à ses serviteurs: “Vous voyez bien que c’est un fou, pourquoi me l’avez-vous amené ici?
16 Have I not enough madmen, without your bringing me this one to weary me with his antics? Is he tojoin my household?'	16 Est-ce que je manque de fous pour que vous m’ameniez celui-là, pour qu’il continue ses folies devant moi? Un peu plus il entrerait chez moi!”
