1 Her mother-in-law Naomi then said, 'Daughter, is it not my duty to see you happily settled?	1 E tornata che fu a casa della suocera, udì dirsi da lei: Figliuola mia, io cerco il tuo riposo, e farò in modo che tu stii bene.
2 And Boaz, the man with whose work-women you were, is he not our kinsman? Tonight he wil bewinnowing the barley on the threshing-floor.	2 Quel Booz, colle figlie del quale tu se' stata nel campo, egli è nostro parente, e questa notte tira l'orzo nella sua aia.
3 So wash and perfume yourself, put on your cloak and go down to the threshing-floor. Don't let himrecognise you while he is stil eating and drinking.	3 Lavati adunque, e ungiti, e prendi la miglior tua veste, e va all'aia: non ti lasciar vedere all'uomo, se non finito che abbia di mangiare, e di bere.
4 But when he lies down, take note where he lies, then go and turn back the covering at his feet and lie down yourself. He wil tell you what to do.'	4 Ma quando se n' anderà a dormire, osserva il luogo dov'egli dorme; e anderai, e alzerai la coperta che ha addosso dalla parte de' piedi, e ivi ti metterai, e vi giacerai: ed egli dirà a te quel che tu debba fare.
5 Ruth said, 'I shal do everything you tel me.'	5 Rispose ella: Farò tutto quello che comanderai.
6 So she went down to the threshing-floor and did everything her mother-in-law had told her.	6 E andò all’aia, e fece tutto quel che la suocera le aveva ordinato.
7 When Boaz had finished eating and drinking, he went off happily and lay down beside the pile of barley.Ruth then quietly went, turned back the covering at his feet and lay down.	7 E quando Booz dopo aver mangiato, e bevuto, ed essersi esilarato, se n'andò a dormire presso una massa di covoni, andò ella pian piano, e alzata la coperta dalla parte de' piedi di lui, ivi si gettò.
8 In the middle of the night, he woke up with a shock and looked about him; and there lying at his feet wasa woman.	8 Quand'ecco sulla mezza notte l'uomo ebbe paura, e si alterò veggendo una donna giacente a' suoi piedi;
9 'Who are you?' he said; and she replied, 'I am your servant Ruth. Spread the skirt of your cloak overyour servant for you have the right of redemption over me.'	9 E dissele: Chi se' tu? Ed ella rispose: Io sono Ruth tua serva: stendi la tua coperta sopra la tua serva, perocché tu se' prossimo parente.
10 'May Yahweh bless you, daughter,' he said, 'for this second act of faithful love of yours is greater thanthe first, since you have not run after young men, poor or rich.	10 Ed egli disse: Figliuola, benedetta se' tu dal Signore, e la pristina tua bontà hai superata con quella d'adesso: perocché non se n’andata a cercar de' giovani poveri, o ricchi.
11 Don't be afraid, daughter, I shal do everything you ask, since the people at the gate of my town allknow that you are a woman of great worth.	11 Non temere adunque, perchè io farò tutto quello che mi dirai: conciossiachè tutto il popolo che abita dentro le porte della mia patria, sa che tu se' donna di virtù.
12 But, though it is true that I have the right of redemption over you, you have a kinsman closer thanmyself.	12 E io non nego di essere parente, ma havvene un altro più prossimo di me.
13 Stay here for tonight and, in the morning, if he wishes to exercise his right over you, very wel , let himredeem you. But if he does not wish to do so, then as Yahweh lives, I shal redeem you. Lie here til morning.'	13 Riposa per questa notte; e venuto che sarà il giorno, se quegli vuol ritenerti in vigor del diritto di parentela, bene: se poi egli non vorrà, io senza dubbio alcuno ti prenderò, viva il Signore: dormi sino al mattino.
14 So she lay at his feet til morning, but got up before the hour when one man can recognise another;and he thought, 'It must not be known that this woman came to the threshing-floor.'	14 Ella adunque dormì a' suoi piedi sino che fu sul finir della notte. E si alzò prima che gli uomini potessero conoscersi l’uno l’altro: e Booz le disse: Bada, che nissun sappia, che tu se' venuta in questo luogo.
15 He then said, 'Let me have the cloak you are wearing, hold it out!' She held it out while he put sixmeasures of barley into it and then loaded it on to her; and off she went to the town.	15 E soggiunse: Stendi il pallio che hai addosso e tienlo con ambe le mani. Ed ella avendolo disteso, e tenendolo alto, le diede sei misure di orzo, e lo pose a lei sulle spalle. Ed ella col suo carico entrò nella città,
16 When Ruth got home, her mother-in-law asked her, 'How did things go with you, daughter?' She thentold her everything that the man had done for her.	16 E andò alla sua suocera. E quella le disse: Figliuola, che hai tu fatto? Ed ella le raccontò tutto quello che l’uomo avea fatto verso di lei.
17 'He gave me these six measures of barley and said, "You must not go home empty-handed to yourmother-in-law." '	17 E disse: Ecco sei misure di orzo, che egli mi ha dato, e ha detto: Non voglio che tu ritorni alla tua suocera colle mani vote.
18 Naomi said, 'Do nothing, daughter, until you see how things have gone; I am sure he will not rest untilhe has settled the matter this very day.'	18 E Noemi disse: Aspetta, o figliuola, che veggiamo l'esito di quest'affare: conciossiachè l'uomo non si darà posa prima di avere eseguito quel che ha promesso.
