Ruth 3

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Her mother-in-law Naomi then said, 'Daughter, is it not my duty to see you happily settled?	1 Noémi, sa belle-mère, lui dit: "Ma fille, ne dois-je pas chercher à t'établir pour que tu sois heureuse?
2 And Boaz, the man with whose work-women you were, is he not our kinsman? Tonight he wil bewinnowing the barley on the threshing-floor.	2 Eh bien! Booz n'est-il pas notre parent, lui dont tu as suivi les servantes? Cette nuit, il doit vannerl'orge sur l'aire.
3 So wash and perfume yourself, put on your cloak and go down to the threshing-floor. Don't let himrecognise you while he is stil eating and drinking.	3 Lave-toi donc et parfume-toi, mets ton manteau et descends à l'aire, mais ne te laisse pas reconnaîtrepar lui avant qu'il ait fini de manger et de boire.
4 But when he lies down, take note where he lies, then go and turn back the covering at his feet and lie down yourself. He wil tell you what to do.'	4 Quand il sera couché, observe l'endroit où il repose, alors tu iras, tu dégageras une place à ses pieds ettu te coucheras. Il te fera savoir lui-même ce que tu devras faire."
5 Ruth said, 'I shal do everything you tel me.'	5 Et Ruth lui répondit: "Tout ce que tu me dis, je le ferai."
6 So she went down to the threshing-floor and did everything her mother-in-law had told her.	6 Elle descendit donc à l'aire et fit tout ce que sa belle-mère lui avait commandé.
7 When Boaz had finished eating and drinking, he went off happily and lay down beside the pile of barley.Ruth then quietly went, turned back the covering at his feet and lay down.	7 Booz mangea et but, puis, le coeur joyeux, s'en alla dormir auprès du tas d'orge. Alors Ruth s'en allatout doucement, dégagea une place à ses pieds et se coucha.
8 In the middle of the night, he woke up with a shock and looked about him; and there lying at his feet wasa woman.	8 Au milieu de la nuit, l'homme eut un frisson; il se retourna et vit une femme couchée à ses pieds.
9 'Who are you?' he said; and she replied, 'I am your servant Ruth. Spread the skirt of your cloak overyour servant for you have the right of redemption over me.'	9 "Qui es-tu?" Dit-il. -- Je suis Ruth, ta servante, lui dit-elle. Etends sur ta servante le pan de tonmanteau, car tu as droit de rachat" --
10 'May Yahweh bless you, daughter,' he said, 'for this second act of faithful love of yours is greater thanthe first, since you have not run after young men, poor or rich.	10 "Bénie sois-tu de Yahvé, ma fille, lui dit-il, ce second acte de piété que tu accomplis l'emporte sur lepremier, car tu n'as pas recherché des jeunes gens, pauvres ou riches.
11 Don't be afraid, daughter, I shal do everything you ask, since the people at the gate of my town allknow that you are a woman of great worth.	11 Et maintenant, ma fille, sois sans crainte, tout ce que tu me diras, je le ferai pour toi, car tout le peupleà la porte de ma ville sait que tu es une femme parfaite.
12 But, though it is true that I have the right of redemption over you, you have a kinsman closer thanmyself.	12 Toutefois, s'il est vrai que j'ai droit de rachat, il y a un parent plus proche que moi.
13 Stay here for tonight and, in the morning, if he wishes to exercise his right over you, very wel , let himredeem you. But if he does not wish to do so, then as Yahweh lives, I shal redeem you. Lie here til morning.'	13 Passe la nuit ici et au matin, s'il veut exercer son droit à ton égard, c'est bien, qu'il te rachète; mais s'ilne veut pas te racheter, alors, par Yahvé vivant, c'est moi qui te rachèterai. Reste couchée jusqu'au matin."
14 So she lay at his feet til morning, but got up before the hour when one man can recognise another;and he thought, 'It must not be known that this woman came to the threshing-floor.'	14 Elle resta donc couchée à ses pieds jusqu'au matin, puis elle se leva avant l'heure où un homme peuten reconnaître un autre; il se disait: "Il ne faut pas qu'on sache que cette femme est venue à l'aire."
15 He then said, 'Let me have the cloak you are wearing, hold it out!' She held it out while he put sixmeasures of barley into it and then loaded it on to her; and off she went to the town.	15 Il dit alors: "Présente le manteau que tu as sur toi et tiens-le." Elle le tint et il mesura six parts d'orgequ'il chargea sur elle, puis elle retourna à la ville.
16 When Ruth got home, her mother-in-law asked her, 'How did things go with you, daughter?' She thentold her everything that the man had done for her.	16 Lorsque Ruth rentra chez sa belle-mère, celle-ci lui dit: "Qu'en est-il de toi, ma fille?" Ruth luiraconta tout ce que cet homme avait fait pour elle.
17 'He gave me these six measures of barley and said, "You must not go home empty-handed to yourmother-in-law." '	17 Elle dit: "Ces six parts d'orge, il me les a données en disant: Tu ne reviendras pas les mains videschez ta belle-mère" --
18 Naomi said, 'Do nothing, daughter, until you see how things have gone; I am sure he will not rest untilhe has settled the matter this very day.'	18 "Ma fille, reste en repos, lui dit Noémi, jusqu'à ce que tu saches comment finira cette affaire;assurément, cet homme n'aura de cesse qu'il ne l'ait terminée aujourd'hui même."
