NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 In the days when the Judges were governing, a famine occurred in the country and a certain man fromBethlehem of Judah went-he, his wife and his two sons -- to live in the Plains of Moab.	1 No tempo que governavam os juízes, sobreveio uma fome na terra. Um homem partiu de Belém de Judá, com sua mulher e seus dois filhos, indo morar nos campos de Moab.
2 The man was called Elimelech, his wife Naomi and his two sons Mahlon and Chilion; they wereEphrathites from Bethlehem of Judah. Going to the Plains of Moab, they settled there.	2 Chamava-se Elimelec, e sua mulher Noêmi; seus dois filhos chamavam-se Maalon e Quelion; eram efrateus de Belém de Judá. Chegados à terra de Moab, estabeleceram-se ali.
3 Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died, and she and her two sons were left.	3 Elimelec, marido de Noêmi, morreu, deixando-a com seus dois filhos.
4 These married Moabite women: one was called Orpah and the other Ruth. They lived there for aboutten years.	4 Estes casaram com mulheres moabitas, chamadas uma Orfa e outra Rute. Viveram lá aproximadamente dez anos.
5 Mahlon and Chilion then both died too, and Naomi was thus bereft of her two sons and her husband.	5 Maalon e Quelion morreram ficando Noêmi só, sem seus dois filhos e sem seu marido.
6 She then decided to come back from the Plains of Moab with her daughters-in-law, having heard in thePlains of Moab that God had visited his people and given them food.	6 Então, levantou-se Noêmi e partiu da região de Moab com suas duas noras, porque ouviu dizer que o Senhor tinha visitado o seu povo e lhe tinha dado pão.
7 So, with her daughters-in-law, she left the place where she was living and they took the road back toJudah.	7 Deixou, pois, aquele lugar onde habitara com suas duas noras e pôs-se a caminho de volta para a terra de Judá.
8 Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, 'Go back, each of you to your mother's house.	8 Ide, voltai para a casa de vossa mãe, disse ela às suas noras. O Senhor use convosco de misericórdia, como vós usastes com os que morreram e comigo!
9 May Yahweh show you faithful love, as you have done to those who have died and to me. Yahweh grantthat you may each find happiness with a husband!' She then kissed them, but they began weeping loudly,	9 Que ele vos conceda paz em vossos lares, cada uma em casa de seu marido! E beijou-as. Elas puseram-se a chorar:
10 and said, 'No, we shal go back with you to your people.'	10 Nós iremos contigo para o teu povo, disseram elas.
11 'Go home, daughters,' Naomi replied. 'Why come with me? Have I any more sons in my womb to makehusbands for you?	11 Ide, minhas filhas, replicou Noêmi. Por que haveis de vir comigo? Porventura tenho eu ainda em meu seio filhos que possam tornar-se vossos maridos?
12 Go home, daughters, go, for I am now too old to marry again. Even if I said, "I stil have a hope: I shalltake a husband this very night and shal bear more sons,"	12 Voltai, minhas filhas, porque já estou demasiado velha para casar-me de novo. E ainda que eu tivesse alguma esperança, e que esta noite mesmo me fosse dado ter marido, e viesse a gerar filhos,
13 would you be prepared to wait for them until they were grown up? Would you refuse to marry for theirsake? No, daughters, I am bitterly sorry for your sakes that the hand of Yahweh should have been raised againstme.'	13 esperá-los-íeis crescer, sem vos casardes de novo, até que se tornassem grandes? Não, minhas filhas, minha dor é muito maior do que a vossa, porque a mão do Senhor pesou sobre mim.
14 They started weeping loudly al over again; Orpah then kissed her mother-in-law and went back to herpeople. But Ruth stayed with her.	14 Então elas desataram de novo a chorar. Orfa beijou a sua sogra, porém Rute não quis separar-se dela.
15 Naomi then said, 'Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her god. Go home, too;fol ow your sister-in-law.'	15 Eis que tua cunhada voltou para o seu povo e para os seus deuses, disse-lhe Noêmi; vai com ela.
16 But Ruth said, 'Do not press me to leave you and to stop going with you, for wherever you go, I shalgo, wherever you live, I shal live. Your people will be my people, and your God wil be my God.	16 Não insistas comigo, respondeu Rute, para que eu te deixe e me vá longe de ti. Aonde fores, eu irei; aonde habitares, eu habitarei. O teu povo é meu povo, e o teu Deus, meu Deus.
17 Where you die, I shall die and there I shal be buried. Let Yahweh bring unnameable il s on me andworse il s, too, if anything but death should part me from you!'	17 Na terra em que morreres, quero também eu morrer e aí ser sepultada. O Senhor trate-me com todo o rigor, se outra coisa, a não ser a morte, me separar de ti!
18 Seeing that Ruth was determined to go with her, Naomi said no more.	18 Ante tal resolução, Noêmi não insistiu mais.
19 The two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. Their arrival set the whole town astir, and thewomen said, 'Can this be Naomi?'	19 Seguiram juntas o seu caminho até Belém; ali chegando, comoveu-se toda a cidade; as mulheres diziam.: Eis aí Noêmi!
20 To this she replied, 'Do not cal me Naomi, cal me Mara, for Shaddai has made my lot bitter.	20 Não me chameis mais Noêmi, replicou ela, mas chamai-me Mara; porque o Todo-poderoso me encheu de amargura.
21 I departed ful , and Yahweh has brought me home empty. Why, then, call me Naomi, since Yahwehhas pronounced against me and Shaddai has made me wretched?'	21 Parti com as mãos cheias, e o Senhor fez-me voltar com as mãos vazias. Por que me chamais Noêmi, se o Senhor se declarou contra mim e o Onipotente me inundou de aflição?
22 This was how Naomi came home with her daughter-in-law, Ruth the Moabitess, on returning from thePlains of Moab. They arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.	22 Foi assim que voltaram dos campos de Moab, Noêmi e sua nora Rute, a moabita. Chegaram a Belém quando se começava a segar a cevada.
