NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 In the days when the Judges were governing, a famine occurred in the country and a certain man fromBethlehem of Judah went-he, his wife and his two sons -- to live in the Plains of Moab.	1 Avvenne che nei giorni in cui governavano i giudici, ci fu una carestia nella terra d'Israele e un uomo da Betlemme di Giuda se ne andò ad abitare nei campi di Moab, insieme con la moglie e due suoi figli.
2 The man was called Elimelech, his wife Naomi and his two sons Mahlon and Chilion; they wereEphrathites from Bethlehem of Judah. Going to the Plains of Moab, they settled there.	2 Il nome dell'uomo era Elimèlech e il nome della moglie Noemi; quello dei suoi due figli Maclon e Chilion, efratei da Betlemme di Giuda. Essi se ne andarono nei campi di Moab e vi si stabilirono.
3 Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died, and she and her two sons were left.	3 Morì poi Elimèlech, marito di Noemi, ed ella restò con i suoi due figli.
4 These married Moabite women: one was called Orpah and the other Ruth. They lived there for aboutten years.	4 Essi presero mogli moabite, di cui una si chiamava Orpa e l'altra Rut. Dimorarono là circa dieci anni e poi
5 Mahlon and Chilion then both died too, and Naomi was thus bereft of her two sons and her husband.	5 morirono anche Maclon e Chilion e la donna rimase priva del marito e dei suoi due figli.

8 Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, 'Go back, each of you to your mother's house.	8 Ma Noemi disse alle due nuore: "Orsù, tornate ciascuna nella casa della vostra madre e sia benigno il Signore con voi come voi lo siete state con i vostri morti e con me.
9 May Yahweh show you faithful love, as you have done to those who have died and to me. Yahweh grantthat you may each find happiness with a husband!' She then kissed them, but they began weeping loudly,	9 Vi conceda il Signore di trovare pace ognuna nella casa del proprio marito". Essa le baciò,
10 and said, 'No, we shal go back with you to your people.'	10 ma esse piangendo ad alta voce le dissero: "No, torneremo con te al tuo popolo".
11 'Go home, daughters,' Naomi replied. 'Why come with me? Have I any more sons in my womb to makehusbands for you?	11 Noemi disse: "Tornate indietro, figlie mie; perché verreste con me? Ho forse ancora figli nel mio seno che possano essere vostri mariti?
12 Go home, daughters, go, for I am now too old to marry again. Even if I said, "I stil have a hope: I shalltake a husband this very night and shal bear more sons,"	12 Tornate indietro, figlie mie, andate, perché sono troppo vecchia per risposarmi. Infatti anche se dicessi che ho ancora speranza, anche se questa notte stessi con un uomo e avessi dei figli,
13 would you be prepared to wait for them until they were grown up? Would you refuse to marry for theirsake? No, daughters, I am bitterly sorry for your sakes that the hand of Yahweh should have been raised againstme.'	13 forse voi potreste aspettare fino a che crescessero? Potreste restare continenti senza marito? No, figlie mie, troppo amara è per voi la mia sorte; infatti la mano del Signore si è tesa contro di me".
14 They started weeping loudly al over again; Orpah then kissed her mother-in-law and went back to herpeople. But Ruth stayed with her.	14 Esse piansero ancora ad alta voce, poi Orpa baciò la suocera e tornò al suo popolo, mentre Rut non si staccò da lei.
15 Naomi then said, 'Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her god. Go home, too;fol ow your sister-in-law.'	15 Noemi le disse: "Ecco, tua cognata è tornata al suo popolo e ai suoi dèi; vai anche tu dietro a tua cognata".
16 But Ruth said, 'Do not press me to leave you and to stop going with you, for wherever you go, I shalgo, wherever you live, I shal live. Your people will be my people, and your God wil be my God.	16 Ma Rut rispose: "Non forzarmi a lasciarti e ad allontanarmi da te, perché dove tu andrai, andrò anch'io e dove tu dimorerai anch'io dimorerò; il tuo popolo sarà il mio popolo e il tuo Dio sarà il mio Dio.
17 Where you die, I shall die and there I shal be buried. Let Yahweh bring unnameable il s on me andworse il s, too, if anything but death should part me from you!'	17 Dove tu morirai, morrò anch'io e là sarò sepolta. Il Signore mi faccia questo e altro ancora, se altra cosa che la morte separerà te da me e me da te".
18 Seeing that Ruth was determined to go with her, Naomi said no more.	18 Noemi capì che Rut era risoluta a seguirla e cessò di insistere,
19 The two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. Their arrival set the whole town astir, and thewomen said, 'Can this be Naomi?'	19 e andarono insieme fino a che vennero a Betlemme. Or quando arrivarono a Betlemme, tutta la città si commosse a causa loro e le donne dissero: "Questa è Noemi?".
20 To this she replied, 'Do not cal me Naomi, cal me Mara, for Shaddai has made my lot bitter.	20 Essa rispose loro: "Non chiamatemi Noemi, chiamatemi Amarezza, perché l'Onnipotente mi ha inflitto grande amarezza.
21 I departed ful , and Yahweh has brought me home empty. Why, then, call me Naomi, since Yahwehhas pronounced against me and Shaddai has made me wretched?'	21 Io me ne sono andata colma di beni e vuota mi ha fatto tornare il Signore. Perché mi chiamate Noemi, quando il Signore è stato testimone contro di me e l'Onnipotente mi ha resa infelice?".
22 This was how Naomi came home with her daughter-in-law, Ruth the Moabitess, on returning from thePlains of Moab. They arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.	22 Così tornò Noemi con Rut, la moabita, sua nuora, reduce dai campi di Moab.
