NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Next in my vision I saw Mount Zion, and standing on it the Lamb who had with him a hundred andforty-four thousand people, all with his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads.1 Then I looked and there was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads.
I heard a sound coming out of heaven like the sound of the ocean or the roar of thunder; it was like thesound of harpists playing their harps.2 I heard a sound from heaven like the sound of rushing water or a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.
There before the throne they were singing a new hymn in the presence of the four living creatures andthe elders, a hymn that could be learnt only by the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been redeemedfrom the world.3 They were singing (what seemed to be) a new hymn before the throne, before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn this hymn except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ransomed from the earth.
These are the sons who have kept their virginity and not been defiled with women; they fol ow theLamb wherever he goes; they, out of al people, have been redeemed to be the first-fruits for God and for theLamb.4 These are they who were not defiled with women; they are virgins and these are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They have been ransomed as the firstfruits of the human race for God and the Lamb.
No lie was found in their mouths and no fault can be found in them.5 On their lips no deceit has been found; they are unblemished.
Then I saw another angel, flying high overhead, sent to announce the gospel of eternity to al who liveon the earth, every nation, race, language and tribe.6 Then I saw another angel flying high overhead, with everlasting good news to announce to those who dwell on earth, to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.
He was cal ing, 'Fear God and glorify him, because the time has come for him to sit in judgement;worship the maker of heaven and earth and sea and the springs of water.'7 He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, for his time has come to sit in judgment. Worship him who made heaven and earth and sea and springs of water."
A second angel fol owed him, cal ing, 'Babylon has fallen, Babylon the Great has fal en, Babylon whichgave the whole world the wine of retribution to drink.'8 A second angel followed, saying: "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, that made all the nations drink the wine of her licentious passion."
A third angel fol owed, shouting aloud, 'Al those who worship the beast and his statue, or have hadthemselves branded on the hand or forehead,9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice, "Anyone who worships the beast or its image, or accepts its mark on forehead or hand,
wil be made to drink the wine of God's fury which is ready, undiluted, in his cup of retribution; in fireand brimstone they wil be tortured in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb10 will also drink the wine of God's fury, poured full strength into the cup of his wrath, and will be tormented in burning sulfur before the holy angels and before the Lamb.
and the smoke of their torture will rise for ever and ever. There wil be no respite, night or day, forthose who worship the beast or its statue or accept branding with its name.'11 The smoke of the fire that torments them will rise forever and ever, and there will be no relief day or night for those who worship the beast or its image or accept the mark of its name."
This is why there must be perseverance in the saints who keep the commandments of God and faithin Jesus.12 Here is what sustains the holy ones who keep God's commandments and their faith in Jesus.
Then I heard a voice from heaven say to me, 'Write down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord!Blessed indeed, the Spirit says; now they can rest for ever after their work, since their good deeds go with them.'13 I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," said the Spirit, "let them find rest from their labors, for their works accompany them."
Now in my vision I saw a white cloud and, sitting on it, one like a son of man with a gold crown on hishead and a sharp sickle in his hand.14 Then I looked and there was a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud one who looked like a son of man, with a gold crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand.
Then another angel came out of the sanctuary and shouted at the top of his voice to the one sittingon the cloud, 'Ply your sickle and reap: harvest time has come and the harvest of the earth is ripe.'15 Another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the one sitting on the cloud, "Use your sickle and reap the harvest, for the time to reap has come, because the earth's harvest is fully ripe."
Then the one sitting on the cloud set his sickle to work on the earth, and the harvest of earth was reaped.16 So the one who was sitting on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
Another angel, who also carried a sharp sickle, came out of the temple in heaven,17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven who also had a sharp sickle.
and the angel in charge of the fire left the altar and shouted at the top of his voice to the one with thesharp sickle, 'Put your sickle in, and harvest the bunches from the vine of the earth; al its grapes are ripe.'18 Then another angel (came) from the altar, (who) was in charge of the fire, and cried out in a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, "Use your sharp sickle and cut the clusters from the earth's vines, for its grapes are ripe."
So the angel set his sickle to work on the earth and harvested the whole vintage of the earth and putit into a huge winepress, the winepress of God's anger,19 So the angel swung his sickle over the earth and cut the earth's vintage. He threw it into the great wine press of God's fury.
outside the city, where it was trodden until the blood that came out of the winepress was up to thehorses' bridles as far away as sixteen hundred furlongs.20 The wine press was trodden outside the city and blood poured out of the wine press to the height of a horse's bridle for two hundred miles.
