1 Once Ehud was dead, the Israelites again began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes,	1 - Dopo la morte di Aod i figli d'Israele tornarono a fare il male al cospetto del Signore,
2 and Yahweh handed them over to Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned at Hazor. The commander of hisarmy was Sisera, who lived in Haroshet-ha-Goi m.	2 e questi li diede in balìa di Jabin re di Canaan, il quale regnò in Asor ed ebbe come condottiero dell'esercito uno chiamato Sisara. Costui abitava in Aroset delle genti.
3 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh; for Jabin had nine hundred iron chariots and had cruel y oppressedthe Israelites for twenty years.	3 I figli d'Israele invocarono allora il Signore, poichè quegli avea novecento carri falcati e da venti anni li teneva in grande oppressione.
4 Deborah, a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at the time.	4 Eravi allora Debora, profetessa, moglie di Lapidot, la quale in quel tempo giudicava il popolo.
5 She used to sit under Deborah's Palm between Ramah and Bethel in the highlands of Ephraim, and theIsraelites would come to her for justice.	5 Essa sedeva sotto una palma tra Rama e Betel sul monte di Efraim e ad essa ricorrevano i figli di Israele in ogni loro causa.
6 She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, 'Has not Yahweh, God ofIsrael, commanded, "Go! March to Mount Tabor and with you take ten thousand of the sons of Naphtali and thesons of Zebulun.	6 Essa mandò a chiamare Barac figlio di Abinoem di Cedes di Neftali e gli disse: «Il Signore Iddio d'Israele ti comanda d'andare e di condurre l'esercito sul monte Tabor, prendendo teco diecimila combattenti dei figli di Neftali e dei figli di Zabulon.
7 I shall entice Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, to encounter you at the Torrent of Kishon with hischariots and troops; and I shal put him into your power"? '	7 Io poi condurrò a te, al torrente Cison, Sisara capitano dell'esercito di Iabin e i suoi carri e tutta la moltitudine e li darò nelle tue mani».
8 Barak replied, 'If you come with me, I shall go; if you will not come, I shal not go, for I do not know howto choose the day when the angel of Yahweh will grant me success.'	8 Barac le rispose: «Andrò se tu verrai con me; ma se tu non volessi venire, non mi moverò».
9 'I shall go with you then,' she said, 'but, the way you are going about it, the glory wil not be yours; forYahweh wil deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.' Deborah then stood up and went with Barak to Kedesh.	9 Al che essa disse: «Verrò senza dubbio con te, ma per questa volta la vittoria non sarà attribuita a te, poichè Sisara sarà dato in mano ad una donna». Sorse pertanto Debora e andò in Cedes con Barac,
10 Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali. Ten thousand men marched behind him, and Deborah wentwith him.	10 il quale, convocati Zabulon e Neftali, ascese insieme ai diecimila combattenti avendo Debora con sè.
11 Heber the Kenite had parted company with the tribe of Kain and with the sons of Hobab, father-in-lawof Moses; he had pitched his tent near the Oak of Zaanannim, not far from Kedesh.	11 Aber il Cineo erasi staccato da tempo dagli altri Cinei suoi fratelli figli di Obab cognato di Mosè e aveva piantato le tende fino nella valle, chiamata Sennim presso Cedes.
12 Sisera was informed that Barak son of Abinoam had encamped on Mount Tabor.	12 Sisara, informato che Barac figlio di Abinoem era salito sul monte Tabor,
13 Sisera summoned all his chariots -- nine hundred iron chariots -- and al the troops he had, fromHarosheth-ha-Goi m to the Torrent of Kishon.	13 raccolse novecento carri falcati e tutto l'esercito di Aroset delle genti presso il torrente Cison.
14 Deborah said to Barak, 'Up! For today is the day when Yahweh has put Sisera into your power. Is notYahweh marching at your head?' And Barak charged down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men behindhim.	14 Debora allora disse a Barac: «Sorgi, poichè è il giorno in cui Dio ti darà nelle mani Sisara; ecco, egli stesso sarà la tua guida». Discese pertanto Barac dal monte Tabor con i diecimila combattenti
15 At Barak's advance, Yahweh struck terror into Sisera, all his chariots and his entire army. Sisera leaptdown from his chariot and fled on foot.	15 ed il Signore gettò tale spavento sopra Sisara, i suoi carri e tutto l'esercito di lui, mettendoli a fil di spada al cospetto di Barac, che Sisara sceso dal carro se ne fuggì a piedi
16 Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-ha-Goiim. Sisera's whole army fel bythe edge of the sword; not one man was spared.	16 e Barac si diede a inseguire i carri dei fuggiaschi e tutto l'esercito fino ad Aroset delle genti e tutta quella moltitudine di nemici cadde e fu massacrata.
17 Sisera meanwhile fled on foot towards the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. For there waspeace between Jabin king of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite.	17 Sisare fuggendo giunse alla tenda di Jael moglie di Aber il Cineo, giacchè Iabin re di Azor e Aber Cineo erano tra loro in pace.
18 Jael came out to meet Sisera and said to him, 'Stay here, my lord, with me; do not be afraid!' Hestayed with her in her tent, and she covered him with a rug.	18 Uscì pertanto Jael incontro a Sisara e gli disse: «Entra in casa mia, o mio signore: entra, non temere». Entrato egli nella tenda di lei e ricoperto da essa con un ampio mantello,
19 He said to her, 'Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.' She opened the skin of milk,gave him some to drink and covered him up again.	19 le disse: «Dammi, di grazia, un po' d'acqua, chè muoio di sete». Ed essa, aperto un otre di latte, gliene diede da bere e poi lo ricoprì.
20 Then he said to her, 'Stand at the tent door, and if anyone comes and questions you -- if he asks, "Isthere a man here?" say, "No." '	20 Sisara allora le disse: «Stattene innanzi all'entrata della tenda e se qualcuno verrà a interrogarti, dicendo: - C'è forse qui qualcuno? -, rispondigli che non v'è anima viva».
21 But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent-peg and picked up a mallet; she crept up softly to him and drovethe peg into his temple right through to the ground. He was lying fast asleep, worn out; and so he died.	21 Allora Jael moglie di Aber prese un piuolo della tenda ed un martello ed entrata silenziosamente, gli pose sopra la tempia il chiodo e con un colpo di martello glielo conficcò nel cervello e lo inchiodò a terra, cosicchè egli associando il sonno alla morte venne meno e morì.
22 And now Barak came up in pursuit of Sisera. Jael went out to meet him and said, 'Come in, and I wilshow you the man you are looking for.' He went into her tent; and there was Sisera dead, with the tent-pegthrough his temple.	22 Giungeva in quel momento Barac che inseguiva Sisara e uscitagli incontro Jael gli disse: «Vieni e ti mostrerò l'uomo che cerchi». Ed essendo egli entrato vide Sisara steso morto e il piuolo infisso nella tempia di lui.
23 Thus God that day humbled Jabin king of Canaan before the Israelites.	23 In quel giorno Iddio umiliò Jabin re di Canaan innanzi ai figli d'Israele,
24 And the Israelites bore down more and more heavily on that king of Canaan, Jabin, until he was utterlydestroyed.	24 i quali crescevano di giorno in giorno e con mano forte opprimevano Jabin re di Canaan, finchè lo sterminarono.
