NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 The Angel of Yahweh went up from Gilgal to Bethel and said, 'I have brought you out of Egypt and ledyou into this country, which I promised on oath to your ancestors. I said, "I shal never break my covenant withyou.	1 ORA l’Angelo del Signore salì di Ghilgal in Bochim, e disse: Io vi ho fatti salir fuori di Egitto, e vi ho condotti nel paese, il quale io avea giurato a’ vostri padri; e ho detto; Io non annullerò giammai in eterno il mio patto con voi.
2 You for your part must make no covenant with the inhabitants of this country; you wil destroy theiraltars." But you have not listened to my voice. What is the reason for this?	2 Ma voi altresì non patteggiate con gli abitanti di questo paese; disfate i loro altari; ma voi non avete ubbidito alla mia voce; che cosa è questa che voi avete fatta?
3 Very wel , I now say this, "I am not going to drive these nations out before you. They will become youroppressors, and their gods wil be a snare for you."	3 Perciò io altresì ho detto: Io non li scaccerò d’innanzi a voi; anzi vi saranno a’ fianchi, e i lor dii vi saranno per laccio.
4 When the angel of Yahweh had spoken these words to al the Israelites, the people began to wail at thetop of their voices.	4 E mentre l’Angelo del Signore diceva queste parole a tutti i figliuoli d’Israele, il popolo alzò la voce, e pianse.
5 And they called the place Bochim, and offered sacrifices to Yahweh there.	5 Onde posero nome a quel luogo Bochim; e quivi sacrificarono al Signore
6 Joshua having dismissed the people, the Israelites then went away, each one to his own heritage, tooccupy the country.	6 OR Giosuè rimandò il popolo; e i figliuoli d’Israele se ne andarono ciascuno alla sua eredità, per possedere il paese.
7 The people served Yahweh throughout the lifetime of Joshua and throughout the lifetime of those elderswho outlived Joshua and had known al the great deeds which Yahweh had done for the sake of Israel.	7 E il popolo servì al Signore tutto il tempo di Giosuè, e tutto il tempo degli Anziani che sopravvissero a Giosuè, i quali aveano vedute tutte le grandi opere del Signore, le quali egli avea fatte inverso Israele.
8 Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, was a hundred and ten years old when he died.	8 Poi Giosuè, figliuolo di Nun, servitor del Signore, morì d’età di cendieci anni;
9 He was buried on the estate which he had received as his heritage at Timnath-Heres in the highlands ofEphraim, north of Mount Gaash.	9 e fu seppellito ne’ confini della sua eredità in Timnat-heres, nel monte d’Efraim, dal Settentrione del monte di Gaas.
10 And when that whole generation had been gathered to its ancestors, another generation fol owed itwhich knew neither Yahweh nor the deeds which he had done for the sake of Israel.	10 E tutta quella generazione ancora fu raccolta a’ suoi padri; poi, surse dopo loro un’altra generazione, la quale non avea conosciuto il Signore, nè le opere ch’egli avea fatte inverso Israele.
11 The Israelites then did what is evil in Yahweh's eyes and served the Baals.	11 E i figliuoli d’Israele fecero ciò che dispiace al Signore, e servirono a’ Baali.
12 They deserted Yahweh, God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt, and they followedother gods, from those of the surrounding peoples. They bowed down to these; they provoked Yahweh;	12 E abbandonarono il Signore Iddio de’ lor padri, il quale li avea tratti fuor del paese di Egitto, e andarono dietro ad altri dii, d’infra gl’iddii de’ popoli ch’erano d’intorno a loro; e li adorarono, e irritarono il Signore.
13 they deserted Yahweh to serve Baal and Astartes.	13 E abbandonarono il Signore, e servirono a Baal e ad Astarot.
14 Then Yahweh's anger grew hot against Israel. He handed them over to pil agers who plundered them;he delivered them to the enemies surrounding them, and they were no longer able to resist their enemies.	14 Laonde l’ira del Signore si accese contro ad Israele, ed egli li diede nelle mani di predatori, i quali li predarono; e li vendè nelle mani de’ lor nemici d’ogni intorno, talchè non poterono più stare a fronte a’ lor nemici.
15 Whenever they mounted an expedition, Yahweh's hand was there to foil them, as Yahweh had toldthem and as Yahweh had sworn to them, so that they were in dire distress.	15 Dovunque uscivano, la mano del Signore era contro a loro in male, come il Signore avea loro detto e giurato; onde furono grandemente distretti.
16 Yahweh then appointed them judges, who rescued them from the hands of their plunderers.	16 Or il Signore suscitava de’ Giudici, i quali li liberavano dalla mano di quelli che li predavano.
17 But even to their judges they refused to listen. They prostituted themselves to other gods and boweddown before these. Very quickly they left the path which their ancestors had trodden in obedience to the ordersof Yahweh; they did not fol ow their example.	17 Ma non pure a’ lor Giudici ubbidivano; anzi andavano fornicando dietro ad altri dii, e li adoravano; subito si rivolgevano dalla via, per la quale erano camminati i lor padri, ubbidendo a’ comandamenti del Signore; essi non facevano già così.
18 When Yahweh appointed judges for them, Yahweh was with the judge and rescued them from thehands of their enemies as long as the judge lived, since Yahweh relented at their groans under their persecutorsand oppressors.	18 E pure, quando il Signore suscitava loro de’ Giudici, il Signore era col Giudice, e li liberava dalla mano de’ lor nemici, tutto il tempo del Giudice; perciocchè il Signore si pentiva, per li loro sospiri, che gittavano per cagion di coloro che li oppressavano, e tenevano in distretta.
19 But once the judge was dead, they relapsed into even worse corruption than their ancestors. Theyfol owed other gods; they served them and bowed before them and would not give up the practices and stubbornways of their ancestors at al .	19 Ma, quando il Giudice era morto, tornavano a corrompersi più che i lor padri, andando dietro ad altri dii, per servirli, e per adorarli; non tralasciavano nulla delle loro opere, nè della lor via indurata.
20 Yahweh's anger then blazed out against Israel, and he said, 'Since this people has broken thecovenant which I laid down for their ancestors, since they have not listened to my voice,	20 Laonde l’ira del Signore si accese contro a Israele; ed egli disse: Perciocchè questa gente ha trasgredito il mio patto, il quale io avea ordinato a’ lor padri, e non hanno ubbidito alla mia voce;
21 in future I shal not drive before them any one of those nations which Joshua left when he died,	21 io altresì non continuerò di scacciar d’innanzi a loro alcuna delle genti, le quali Giosuè lasciò quando egli morì.
22 in order, by means of them, to put Israel to the test, to see whether or not they would tread the paths ofYahweh as once their ancestors had trodden them.'	22 Il che fu, per provar per esse Israele se osserverebbero la via del Signore, per camminare in essa, come l’osservarono i padri loro, o no.
23 Hence, Yahweh allowed these nations to remain; he did not hurry to drive them out, and did not deliverthem into the hands of Joshua.	23 Il Signore adunque lasciò quelle genti, senza scacciarle così subito; e non le diede nelle mani di Giosuè
