NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The Angel of Yahweh went up from Gilgal to Bethel and said, 'I have brought you out of Egypt and ledyou into this country, which I promised on oath to your ancestors. I said, "I shal never break my covenant withyou.	1 El Angel del Señor subió de Guilgal a Bojím y dijo: «Yo los hice subir de Egipto y los introduje en la tierra que prometí a sus padres con un juramento. También dije: «Jamás quebrantaré mi alianza con ustedes.
2 You for your part must make no covenant with the inhabitants of this country; you wil destroy theiraltars." But you have not listened to my voice. What is the reason for this?	2 Pero ustedes no harán ninguna alianza con los habitantes de este país y destruirán sus altares». A pesar de eso, no escucharon mi voz. ¿Por qué han obrado así?
3 Very wel , I now say this, "I am not going to drive these nations out before you. They will become youroppressors, and their gods wil be a snare for you."	3 Por eso les digo: «¿No expulsaré a esos pueblos delante de ustedes: ellos no dejarán de hostigarlos, y sus dioses serán una trampa para ustedes».
4 When the angel of Yahweh had spoken these words to al the Israelites, the people began to wail at thetop of their voices.	4 Y Mientras el Angel del Señor dirigía estas palabras a los israelitas, el pueblo se puso a llorar a gritos.
5 And they called the place Bochim, and offered sacrifices to Yahweh there.	5 Por eso llamaron a aquel lugar Bojím –que significa «los que lloran»– y ofrecieron allí sacrificios al Señor.
6 Joshua having dismissed the people, the Israelites then went away, each one to his own heritage, tooccupy the country.	6 Josué despidió al pueblo, y los israelitas se fueron cada uno a su herencia, para tomar posesión del país.
7 The people served Yahweh throughout the lifetime of Joshua and throughout the lifetime of those elderswho outlived Joshua and had known al the great deeds which Yahweh had done for the sake of Israel.	7 El pueblo sirvió al Señor mientras vivió Josué, y durante toda la vida de los ancianos que le sobrevivieron y que habían visto las hazañas del Señor en favor de Israel.
8 Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, was a hundred and ten years old when he died.	8 Josué, hijo de Nun, el servidor del Señor, murió a la edad de ciento diez años.
9 He was buried on the estate which he had received as his heritage at Timnath-Heres in the highlands ofEphraim, north of Mount Gaash.	9 Lo enterraron en el territorio de su propiedad, en Timnat Séraj, en la montaña de Efraím, al norte del monte Gaás.
10 And when that whole generation had been gathered to its ancestors, another generation fol owed itwhich knew neither Yahweh nor the deeds which he had done for the sake of Israel.	10 Y cuando toda aquella generación fue a reunirse con sus padres, surgió una nueva generación que no conocía al Señor ni la obra que había hecho en favor de Israel.
11 The Israelites then did what is evil in Yahweh's eyes and served the Baals.	11 Los israelitas hicieron lo que es malo a los ojos del Señor y sirvieron a los Baales.
12 They deserted Yahweh, God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt, and they followedother gods, from those of the surrounding peoples. They bowed down to these; they provoked Yahweh;	12 Abandonaron al Señor, el Dios de sus padres, que los había hecho salir de Egipto; fueron detrás de otros dioses –los dioses de los pueblos vecinos– y se postraron delante de ellos, provocando así la indignación del Señor.
13 they deserted Yahweh to serve Baal and Astartes.	13 Abandonaron al Señor para servir a Baal y a Astarté.
14 Then Yahweh's anger grew hot against Israel. He handed them over to pil agers who plundered them;he delivered them to the enemies surrounding them, and they were no longer able to resist their enemies.	14 Por eso, la ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel: él los puso en manos de salteadores, que los despojaron; los entregó a los enemigos que tenían a su alrededor, y no pudieron oponerles resistencia.
15 Whenever they mounted an expedition, Yahweh's hand was there to foil them, as Yahweh had toldthem and as Yahweh had sworn to them, so that they were in dire distress.	15 En todas las campañas, la mano del Señor se ponía en contra de ellos para hacerles mal, como el mismo Señor lo había dicho y jurado. Así encontraron en una situación muy angustiosa.
16 Yahweh then appointed them judges, who rescued them from the hands of their plunderers.	16 Entonces el Señor suscitaba jueces, que salvaban a los israelitas del poder de los salteadores.
17 But even to their judges they refused to listen. They prostituted themselves to other gods and boweddown before these. Very quickly they left the path which their ancestors had trodden in obedience to the ordersof Yahweh; they did not fol ow their example.	17 Pero los israelitas no escuchaban a sus jueces, sino que se prostituían, yendo detrás de otros dioses y postrándose delante de ellos. Se desviaban muy pronto del camino seguido por sus padres, que habían obedecido los mandamientos del Señor. Ellos, en cambio, no hacían lo mismo.
18 When Yahweh appointed judges for them, Yahweh was with the judge and rescued them from thehands of their enemies as long as the judge lived, since Yahweh relented at their groans under their persecutorsand oppressors.	18 Cuando el Señor les suscitaba jueces, estaba con el juez y los salvaba de las manos de sus enemigos mientras vivía el juez, porque se compadecía de los gemidos que les provocaban sus opresores y perseguidores.
19 But once the judge was dead, they relapsed into even worse corruption than their ancestors. Theyfol owed other gods; they served them and bowed before them and would not give up the practices and stubbornways of their ancestors at al .	19 Pero cuando moría el juez, volvían a pervertirse más aún que sus antepasados: iban detrás de otros dioses para servirlos y postrarse delante de ellos, sin renunciar en nada a sus malas acciones y a su conducta obstinada.
20 Yahweh's anger then blazed out against Israel, and he said, 'Since this people has broken thecovenant which I laid down for their ancestors, since they have not listened to my voice,	20 La ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, y él les dijo: «Ya que este pueblo ha quebrantado mi alianza, la que yo prescribí a sus padres, y no ha escuchado mi voz,
21 in future I shal not drive before them any one of those nations which Joshua left when he died,	21 tampoco yo arrojaré de su presencia a ninguna de las naciones que dejó Josué cuando murió».
22 in order, by means of them, to put Israel to the test, to see whether or not they would tread the paths ofYahweh as once their ancestors had trodden them.'	22 Esto lo hacía para probar a Israel por medio de ellas, y para ver si seguían el camino del Señor, como lo habían seguido sus padres.
23 Hence, Yahweh allowed these nations to remain; he did not hurry to drive them out, and did not deliverthem into the hands of Joshua.	23 Por eso el Señor, en lugar de expulsar inmediatamente a esas naciones, las dejó en paz y no las entregó en manos de Josué.
