NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Samson then went to Gaza and, seeing a prostitute there, went in to her.	1 Sansón se dirigió a Gaza. Allí vio a una prostituta y entró en su casa.
2 The men of Gaza being told, 'Samson has arrived,' surrounded the place and kept watch for him thewhole night at the town gate. Al that night they were going to make no move, thinking, 'Let us wait untildaybreak, and then kil him.'	2 Cuando anunciaron a la gente de Gaza: «¡Ha llegado Sansón!», lo cercaron y se pusieron al acecho junto a la Puerta de la ciudad. Así estuvieron a la expectativa toda la noche, diciendo: «Lo mataremos al despuntar el alba».
3 Til midnight, however, Samson stayed in bed, and then at midnight he got up, seized the doors of thetown gate and the two posts as wel ; he tore them up, bar and al , hoisted them on to his shoulders and carriedthem to the top of the hill overlooking Hebron.	3 Pero Sansón estuvo acostado sólo hasta la medianoche. Entonces se levantó, tomó las hojas de la Puerta de la ciudad y el marco que la sostenía, los arrancó con barrotes y todo, los cargó sobre sus espaldas, y los subió hasta la cima del monte que está frente a Hebrón.
4 After this, he fell in love with a woman in the Vale of Sorek; she was called Delilah.	4 Después de esto, Sansón se enamoró en el valle de Sorec de una mujer llamada Dalila.
5 The Philistine chiefs visited her and said, 'Cajole him and find out where his great strength comesfrom, and how we can master him, so that we can bind him and subdue him. In return we shall each give youeleven hundred silver shekels.'	5 Los príncipes de los filisteos fueron a verla y le dijeron: «Sedúcelo y averigua de dónde le viene esa fuerza tan enorme, y qué podríamos hacer para atarlo y tenerlo sometido. Te daremos cada uno mil cien siclos de plata.
6 Delilah said to Samson, 'Please tel me where your great strength comes from, and what would beneeded to bind and subdue you.'	6 Dalila dijo a Sansón: «Vamos, dime de dónde sacas tanta fuerza y con qué habría que atarte para tenerte sometido».
7 Samson replied, 'If I were bound with seven new bowstrings which had not yet been dried, I shouldlose my strength and become like any other man.'	7 Sansón le respondió: «Si me atan con siete cuerdas de arco todavía frescas, que no se han dejado secar, yo me debilitaría y sería un hombre como cualquiera».
8 The Philistine chiefs brought Delilah seven new bowstrings which had not yet been dried and she tookthem and bound him with them.	8 Los príncipes de los filisteos le mandaron siete cuerdas de arco frescas, que no se han dejado secar, y Dalila lo ató con esas cuerdas.
9 She had men concealed in her room, and she shouted, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' Then hesnapped the bowstrings as a strand of tow snaps at a touch of the fire. So the secret of his strength remainedunknown.	9 Y como ella tenía a unos hombres emboscados en la habitación, le gritó: «¡Sansón, los filisteos se te vienen encima!». Pero él rompió las cuerdas de arco como se rompe un cordón de estopa al primer contacto con el fuego. Y no se descubrió el secreto de su fuerza.
10 Delilah then said to Samson, 'You have been laughing at me and tel ing me lies. But now please telme what would be needed to bind you.'	10 Entonces Dalila dijo a Sansón: «Me has engañado y no me has dicho más que mentiras. Ahora dime con qué habría que atarte».
11 He replied, 'If I were bound tightly with new ropes which have never been used, I should lose mystrength and become like any other man.'	11 El le respondió: «Si me atan fuertemente con cuerdas nuevas sin usar, yo me debilitaría y sería como un hombre cualquiera».
12 Delilah then took new ropes and bound him with them, and she shouted, 'The Philistines are on you,Samson!' She had men concealed in her room, but he snapped the ropes round his arms like thread.	12 Dalila tomó unas cuerdas nuevas y lo ató con ellas. Luego gritó: «¡Sansón, los filisteos se te vienen encima!». En la habitación había gente emboscada, pero el rompió las cuerdas de sus brazos como si fueran un hilo.
13 Delilah then said to Samson, 'Up to now you have been laughing at me and tel ing me lies. Tell mewhat would be needed to bind you.' He replied, 'If you wove the seven locks of my hair into the warp of a clothand beat them together tight with the reed, I should lose my strength and become like any other man.'	13 Dalila dijo a Sansón: «Hasta ahora me has estado engañando; no me has dicho más que mentiras. Vamos, dime con qué habría que atarte». Sansón le respondió: «Si entretejes las siete trenzas de mi cabellera con la urdimbre de un tejido, y las fijas con una clavija de telar, yo me debilitaría y sería como un hombre cualquiera».
14 She lul ed him to sleep, then wove the seven locks of his hair into the warp, beat them together tightwith the reed and shouted, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' He woke from his sleep and pul ed out bothreed and warp. So the secret of his strength remained unknown.	14 Entonces ella lo hizo dormir, entretejió las siete trenzas de su cabellera con la urdimbre de un tejido y las fijó con una clavija. Luego le gritó: «¡Sansón, los filisteos se te vienen encima!». El se despertó de su sueño, y arrancó la clavija y el tejido. Y no se descubrió el secreto de su fuerza.
15 Delilah said to him, 'How can you say that you love me, when your heart is not with me? Three timesnow you have laughed at me and have not told me where your great strength comes from.'	15 Entonces ella le dijo: «¿Cómo puedes decir que me quieres, si tu corazón no está conmigo? Ya me has engañado tres veces y no me has revelado de dónde sacas tanta fuerza».
16 And day after day she pestered him with her talk, nagging him til he grew sick to death of it.	16 Y como todos los días lo acosaba con sus palabras y no dejaba de importunarlo, fastidiado ya hasta de la vida,
17 At last he confided everything to her; he said to her, 'A razor has never touched my head, because Ihave been God's nazirite from my mother's womb. If my head were shorn, then my power would leave me and Ishould lose my strength and become like any other man.'	17 él le abrió todo su corazón y le dijo: «La navaja no ha pasado nunca por mi cabeza, porque estoy consagrado a Dios desde el seno de mi madre. Si me cortaran el cabello, mi fuerza se apartaría de mí, me debilitaría y sería como los demás hombres.
18 Delilah then realized that he had real y confided in her; she sent for the Philistine princes with themessage, 'Come just once more: he has confided everything to me.' And the Philistine chiefs came to her withthe money in their hands.	18 Dalila comprendió que él le había abierto todo su corazón, y mandó llamar a los príncipes de los filisteos, diciendo: «Suban esta vez, porque me ha revelado todo su secreto». Los príncipes de los filisteos fueron a verla, llevando el dinero convenido.
19 She lul ed Samson to sleep in her lap, summoned a man and had him shear off the seven locks fromhis head. Thus for the first time she got control over him, and his strength left him.	19 Luego ella durmió a Sansón sobre sus rodillas, y llamó a un hombre, que le cortó las siete trenzas de su cabellera. Así él comenzó a debilitarse y su fuerza se apartó de él.
20 She cried, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' He awoke from sleep, thinking, 'I shal break free as I have done time after time and shake myself clear.' But he did not know that Yahweh had left him.	20 Dalila gritó: «¡Sansón, los filisteos se te vienen encima!». Al despertar de su sueño, Sansón pensó: «Saldré del paso como las otras veces y me libraré». Pero no sabía que el Señor se había apartado de él.
21 The Philistines seized him, put out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. They fettered him with adouble chain of bronze and he spent his time turning the mil in the prison.	21 Los filisteos lo tomaron prisionero, le vaciaron los ojos y lo hicieron bajar a Gaza. Allí lo ataron con una doble cadena de bronce, y él hacía rodar el molino en la cárcel.
22 But his hair began to grow again when it had been cut off.	22 Pero su cabello comenzó a crecer apenas cortado.
23 The Philistine chiefs assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god. And amid their festivitiesthey said: Into our hands our god has delivered Samson our enemy.	23 Los príncipes de los filisteos se reunieron para ofrecer un gran sacrificio a Dagón, su dios, y para hacer grandes festejos. Ellos decían: «Nuestro dios nos ha puesto en las manos a Sansón, nuestro enemigo».
24 And as soon as the people saw their god, they acclaimed him, shouting his praises: Into our handsour god has delivered Samson our enemy, the man who laid our country waste and kil ed so many of us.	24 Y al verlo, la gente alababa a su dios, diciendo: «Nuestro dios nos ha puesto en las manos a Sansón, nuestro enemigo, al que devastaba nuestro país y multiplicaba nuestras víctimas».
25 And as their hearts were full of joy, they shouted, 'Summon Samson out to amuse us.' So Samsonwas summoned from prison, and he performed feats in front of them; then he was put to stand between thepil ars.	25 Cuando todos estuvieron muy alegres, dijeron: «Llamen a Sansón para que nos divierta». Entonces trajeron a Sansón de la cárcel, y él estuvo haciendo piruetas delante de todos. Después lo pusieron de pie entre las columnas.
26 Samson then said to the boy who was leading him by the hand, 'Lead me where I can touch thepil ars supporting the building, so that I can lean against them.'	26 Sansón dijo al niño que lo llevaba de la mano: «Déjame palpar las columnas que sostienen la casa, para apoyarme en ellas».
27 Now the building was crowded with men and women. Al the Philistine chiefs were there, while aboutthree thousand men and women were watching Samson's feats from the terrace.	27 El edificio estaba repleto de hombres y mujeres. Allí estaban todos los príncipes de los filisteos, y en la azotea había unos tres mil hombres y mujeres que se divertían mirando a Sansón.
28 Samson cal ed on Yahweh and cried out, 'Lord Yahweh, I beg you, remember me; give me strengthagain this once, O God, and let me be revenged on the Philistines at one blow for my two eyes.'	28 Entonces Sansón invocó al Señor, con estas palabras: «Señor, acuérdate de mí y devuélveme la fuerza por esta sola vez, para que pueda vengarme de los filisteos, de un solo golpe, por la pérdida de mis dos ojos».
29 And Samson took hold of the two central pil ars supporting the building, and braced himself with hisright arm round one and his left round the other;	29 Luego palpó las dos columnas centrales que sostenían el edificio, y se apoyó contra ellas, poniendo sobre una su brazo derecho y sobre la otra su brazo izquierdo.
30 and he shouted, 'Let me die with the Philistines!' He then heaved with al his might, and the buildingfel on the chiefs and on all the people there. Those whom he brought to their death by his death outnumberedthose whom he had done to death during his life.	30 Y exclamó: «¡Muera yo junto con los filisteos!». Después empujó con toda su fuerza, y el edificio se desplomó sobre los príncipes y sobre toda la gente allí reunida. ¡Los que él mató al morir fueron más numerosos que los que había matado en toda su vida!
31 His brothers and the whole of his father's family came down and carried him away. They took himback and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He had judged Israel fortwenty years.	31 Sus hermanos y toda la familia de su padre bajaron y se llevaron el cadáver. Luego subieron de nuevo y lo sepultaron en la tumba de su padre Manóaj, entre Sorá y Estaol. El había juzgado a Israel durante veinte años.
