1 Samson then went to Gaza and, seeing a prostitute there, went in to her.	1 Andò eziandio a Gaza, e ivi vide una donna meretrice, ed entrò in casa di lei.
2 The men of Gaza being told, 'Samson has arrived,' surrounded the place and kept watch for him thewhole night at the town gate. Al that night they were going to make no move, thinking, 'Let us wait untildaybreak, and then kil him.'	2 La qual cosa avendo udita i Filistei, ed essendosi propalato tra loro, che Sansone era entrato nella città, lo circondarono, e posero guardie alle porte della città: e ivi aspettarono quietamente tutta la notte per ucciderlo la mattina, quando partisse.
3 Til midnight, however, Samson stayed in bed, and then at midnight he got up, seized the doors of thetown gate and the two posts as wel ; he tore them up, bar and al , hoisted them on to his shoulders and carriedthem to the top of the hill overlooking Hebron.	3 Ma Sansone dormì sino alla mezza notte: e di poi alzatosi prese ambedue le porte della città co' loro contrafforti, e serrature, e messele sulle sue spalle, le portò alla cima del monte che guarda Hebron.
4 After this, he fell in love with a woman in the Vale of Sorek; she was called Delilah.	4 Amò di poi una donna che abitava nella valle di Sorec, chiamata Dalila.
5 The Philistine chiefs visited her and said, 'Cajole him and find out where his great strength comesfrom, and how we can master him, so that we can bind him and subdue him. In return we shall each give youeleven hundred silver shekels.'	5 E andarono a lei i principi de' Filistei, e dissero: Ingannalo, e fatti dire, donde a lui venga tanta fortezza, e in qual modo noi possiam superarlo e legarlo, e punirlo: se tu farai questo, ti daremo ciascun di noi mille, e cento monete d'argento.
6 Delilah said to Samson, 'Please tel me where your great strength comes from, and what would beneeded to bind and subdue you.'	6 Disse adunque Dalila a Sansone: Dimmi di grazia in che consista la tua somma fortezza; e qual sia quella cosa, colla quale tu essendo legato non potresti scappare.
7 Samson replied, 'If I were bound with seven new bowstrings which had not yet been dried, I shouldlose my strength and become like any other man.'	7 Le rispose Sansone: Ove io sia legato con sette corde fatte di nerbi freschi, e ancora umidi, io sarò debole come gli altri uomini.
8 The Philistine chiefs brought Delilah seven new bowstrings which had not yet been dried and she tookthem and bound him with them.	8 E i principi de' Filistei portarono a lei le sette corde, come avea detto: e con esse ella legollo,
9 She had men concealed in her room, and she shouted, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' Then hesnapped the bowstrings as a strand of tow snaps at a touch of the fire. So the secret of his strength remainedunknown.	9 Stando quelli nella casa di lei in agguato, e aspettando l'esito dell'affare, ed ella gridò a lui: Sansone, i Filistei ti sono addosso. Ed egli ruppe le corde, come uno romperebbe un filo torto di cattiva stoppa, allorché ha sentito l'odor del fuoco: così non potè sapersi, donde fosse in lui tanta forza.
10 Delilah then said to Samson, 'You have been laughing at me and tel ing me lies. But now please telme what would be needed to bind you.'	10 E dissegli Dalila: Ecco che tu mi hai ingannata, e m'hai detto il falso: dimmi almeno adesso con qual cosa convenga legarti.
11 He replied, 'If I were bound tightly with new ropes which have never been used, I should lose mystrength and become like any other man.'	11 Egli le rispose: Ove io sia legato con funi nuove, che non sieno state mai messe in opera, io sarò debole, e simile agli altri uomini
12 Delilah then took new ropes and bound him with them, and she shouted, 'The Philistines are on you,Samson!' She had men concealed in her room, but he snapped the ropes round his arms like thread.	12 E Dalila legollo ancora con queste, e gridò: Sansone, i Filistei ti sono addosso: ed erano preparate in una stanza le insidie. Ma egli ruppe i legami come un tenue laccio.
13 Delilah then said to Samson, 'Up to now you have been laughing at me and tel ing me lies. Tell mewhat would be needed to bind you.' He replied, 'If you wove the seven locks of my hair into the warp of a clothand beat them together tight with the reed, I should lose my strength and become like any other man.'	13 E dissegli di bel nuovo Dalila: Sino a quando m'ingannerai, e dirai bugia? Insegnami con che convenga legarti. Risposele Sansone: Se le sette trecce de' miei capelli tu le tesserai nella tua tela, e attaccatovi un chiodo, lo ficcherai nella terra, io diventerò debole.
14 She lul ed him to sleep, then wove the seven locks of his hair into the warp, beat them together tightwith the reed and shouted, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' He woke from his sleep and pul ed out bothreed and warp. So the secret of his strength remained unknown.	14 E avendo ciò fatto Dalila, gli disse: Sansone, i Filistei ti son addosso. Ed ei svegliato dal sonno sconficcò il chiodo co' capelli, e colla tela.
15 Delilah said to him, 'How can you say that you love me, when your heart is not with me? Three timesnow you have laughed at me and have not told me where your great strength comes from.'	15 Ma Dalila gli disse: Come mai dici di amarmi, mentre il tuo cuore non è con me? Per tre volte mi hai detto bugia, e non hai voluto dirmi in che sia posta la massima tua fortezza.
16 And day after day she pestered him with her talk, nagging him til he grew sick to death of it.	16 E molestando, e standogli ella attorno continuamente per molti dì senza lasciargli spazio di riposare, s'illanguidì il suo spirito, e diede in un battimento mortale.
17 At last he confided everything to her; he said to her, 'A razor has never touched my head, because Ihave been God's nazirite from my mother's womb. If my head were shorn, then my power would leave me and Ishould lose my strength and become like any other man.'	17 Allora manifestando la verità le disse: Non è mai passato il rasoio per la mia testa, perocché io son Nazareo, cioè consacrato a Dio dall'utero di mia madre: tosata che sia la mia testa, se n’anderà la mia fortezza, e verrà meno, e sarò come tutti gli altri uomini.
18 Delilah then realized that he had real y confided in her; she sent for the Philistine princes with themessage, 'Come just once more: he has confided everything to me.' And the Philistine chiefs came to her withthe money in their hands.	18 Ed ella vedendo, com'egli le avea aperto il cuor suo, ne mandò avviso a' principi de' Filistei, e fece dir loro: Venite ancora per questa volta, perchè egli mi ha aperto il suo cuore. Ed essi andarono portando seco il denaro promesso.
19 She lul ed Samson to sleep in her lap, summoned a man and had him shear off the seven locks fromhis head. Thus for the first time she got control over him, and his strength left him.	19 Ed ella lo fece addormentare sulle sue ginocchia, e posare il corpo sul suo seno. E chiamò un barbiere, il quale tosò le sette trecce di lui: e di poi cominciò a respingerlo, e cacciarlo da se: perocché subito ebbe egli perduta la sua fortezza:
20 She cried, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' He awoke from sleep, thinking, 'I shal break free as I have done time after time and shake myself clear.' But he did not know that Yahweh had left him.	20 E disse: Sansone, i Filistei ti sono addosso. Ed egli svegliato dal sonno disse dentro di se: Io mi svilupperò, come per lo passato, e mi distrigherò: perocché non sapeva come il Signore si era ritirato da lui.
21 The Philistines seized him, put out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. They fettered him with adouble chain of bronze and he spent his time turning the mil in the prison.	21 E i Filistei avendolo preso gli cavaron subito gli occhi, e lo condussero incatenato a Gaza, e chiusolo nella prigione gli fecero girar la macina.
22 But his hair began to grow again when it had been cut off.	22 E già cominciavano a rinascere i suoi capelli,
23 The Philistine chiefs assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god. And amid their festivitiesthey said: Into our hands our god has delivered Samson our enemy.	23 Quando i Filistei si raunarono per offerire ostie solenni a Dagon loro dio, e far banchetto, dicendo: II nostro dio ha dato nelle mani nostre il nemico nostro Sansone.
24 And as soon as the people saw their god, they acclaimed him, shouting his praises: Into our handsour god has delivered Samson our enemy, the man who laid our country waste and kil ed so many of us.	24 E ciò vedendo il popolo dava lodi al suo dio, e dicea similmente: II nostro dio ha dato nelle mani nostre il nostro avversario, il qual devastò il nostro paese e uccise tanta gente.
25 And as their hearts were full of joy, they shouted, 'Summon Samson out to amuse us.' So Samsonwas summoned from prison, and he performed feats in front of them; then he was put to stand between thepil ars.	25 E banchettavano allegramente, e dopo aver ben mangiato ordinarono di far venire Sansone per prendersene trastullo. Ed egli tratto fuori del carcere serviva loro di divertimento: e lo fecero star ritto tra due colonne.
26 Samson then said to the boy who was leading him by the hand, 'Lead me where I can touch thepil ars supporting the building, so that I can lean against them.'	26 Ed egli disse al fanciullo che lo menava a mano: Lascia ch'io tocchi le colonne, sopra le quali posa tutta la casa, e mi appoggi ad esse, e riposi un tantino.
27 Now the building was crowded with men and women. Al the Philistine chiefs were there, while aboutthree thousand men and women were watching Samson's feats from the terrace.	27 Or la casa era piena di uomini, e di donne, e vi erano tutt’i principi de’ Filistei, e v’eran circa tre mila persone dell'uno e dell'altro sesso, le quali dal tetto, e dal solaio stavano a vedere gli scherni fatti a Sansone.
28 Samson cal ed on Yahweh and cried out, 'Lord Yahweh, I beg you, remember me; give me strengthagain this once, O God, and let me be revenged on the Philistines at one blow for my two eyes.'	28 Ma egli invocò il Signore, e disse: Dio Signore, ricordati di me, e restituiscimi adesso la mia fortezza, Dio mio, affinchè io faccia vendetta de' miei nemici, e faccia loro pagare in una sola volta il fio della privazione de' miei due occhi.
29 And Samson took hold of the two central pil ars supporting the building, and braced himself with hisright arm round one and his left round the other;	29 E prendendo le due colonne, sulle quali posava la casa, e una tenendone colla destra, l’altra colla sinistra,
30 and he shouted, 'Let me die with the Philistines!' He then heaved with al his might, and the buildingfel on the chiefs and on all the people there. Those whom he brought to their death by his death outnumberedthose whom he had done to death during his life.	30 Disse: Muoja io co' Filistei: e scosse con forza grande le colonne: rovinò la casa addosso a tutti i principi, e a tutto il resto della moltitudine che vi era, e molti più ne uccise egli morendo che non aveane uccisi pell'innanzi da vivo.
31 His brothers and the whole of his father's family came down and carried him away. They took himback and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He had judged Israel fortwenty years.	31 E andarono i suoi fratelli, e la tutta parentela, e preso il suo corpo lo seppellirono tra Saraa, ed Esthaol nel sepolcro del padre suo Manue. Ed egli fu giudice d'Israele per venti anni.
