NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he noticed a woman, a Philistine girl.	1 Una volta Sansone, che era andato a Timna, posò i suoi occhi, in questa città, su una giovane donna filistea.
2 He went home again and told his father and mother this. 'At Timnah', he said, 'I noticed a woman, aPhilistine girl. So now get her for me, to be my wife.'	2 Tornò subito indietro per dire a suo padre e a sua madre: "Ho visto in Timna una giovane filistea e ora voglio che me la andiate a prendere in moglie".
3 His father and mother said to him, 'Is there no woman among your brothers' daughters or in our entirenation, for you to go and take a wife among these uncircumcised Philistines?' But Samson said to his father, 'Getthat one for me; she is the one I am fond of.'	3 Suo padre e sua madre gli risposero: "Fra la tua gente e fra tutto il tuo popolo non ci sono forse donne, perché tu vada a prenderti una moglie fra i Filistei incirconcisi?". Ma Sansone rispose: "Prendimi quella, perché è lei che mi piace".
4 His father and mother did not know that al this came from Yahweh, who was seeking grounds for aquarrel with the Philistines, since at this time the Philistines dominated Israel.	4 Suo padre e sua madre non sapevano che ciò avveniva per volontà del Signore, il quale cercava un modo per provocare i Filistei che in quel tempo dominavano Israele.
5 Samson went down to Timnah and, as he reached the vineyards of Timnah, he saw a young lioncoming roaring towards him.	5 Sansone mosse dunque alla volta di Timna con suo padre e sua madre e sostarono a Carme-Timna. Ed ecco che un leone si fece incontro a Sansone ruggendo.
6 The spirit of Yahweh seized on him and he tore the lion to pieces with his bare hands as though it werea kid; but he did not tel his father or mother what he had done.	6 Questi, investito dallo spirito del Signore, senza aver nulla in mano, squartò il leone come si squarta un capretto. Però non raccontò la sua impresa né al padre né alla madre.
7 He went down and talked to the woman, and he became fond of her.	7 Poi continuò il suo viaggio per incontrarsi con la donna che gli piacque ancora.
8 Not long after this, Samson went back to marry her. He went out of his way to look at the carcase ofthe lion, and there was a swarm of bees in the lion's body, and honey.	8 Qualche giorno dopo, rifacendo di nuovo la strada per andare a sposarla, lasciò la strada per andare a vedere la carcassa del leone e trovò che, dentro, le api vi avevano fatto un favo pieno di miele.
9 He took up some honey in his hand and ate it as he went along. On returning to his father and mother,he gave some to them, which they ate too, but he did not tel them that he had taken it from the lion's carcase.	9 Trattolo fuori, si rimise in cammino, tenendolo in mano e mangiandolo. Raggiunti poi suo padre e sua madre, ne offrì anche a loro, che ne mangiarono, ma non raccontò loro che aveva preso quel miele nella carcassa del leone.
10 His father then went down to the woman, and Samson made a feast there, as is the custom for youngmen.	10 Il padre di Sansone si presentò alla casa della donna, dove Sansone offrì un banchetto, secondo l'usanza dei giovani.
11 And when the Philistines saw him, they chose thirty companions to stay with him.	11 Quando la gente del posto lo vide, gli scelse una scorta d'onore di trenta compagni che stessero con lui.
12 Samson then said to them, 'Let me ask you a riddle. If you can give me the answer during the sevendays of feasting, I shal give you thirty pieces of fine linen and thirty festal robes.	12 Sansone disse loro: "Voglio proporre un enigma: se vi riuscirà di trovarne la soluzione e riportarmela nei sette giorni del banchetto, io vi darò trenta tuniche e trenta bei vestiti.
13 But if you cannot tell me the answer, then you in your turn must give me thirty pieces of fine linen andthirty festal robes.' 'Ask your riddle,' they replied, 'we are listening.'	13 Ma se non vi riuscirà di risolverlo, sarete voi a darmi trenta tuniche e trenta bei vestiti". Essi gli risposero: "Facci sentire il tuo enigma".
14 So he said to them: Out of the eater came what is eaten, and out of the strong came what is sweet.But three days went by and they could not solve the riddle.	14 Disse loro Sansone: "Da colui che mangia è venuto fuori cibo. Dal forte è uscito qualcosa di dolce". Ma in capo a tre giorni non erano ancora riusciti a risolvere l'enigma.
15 On the fourth day they said to Samson's wife, 'Cajole your husband into explaining the riddle to us, orwe shal burn you and your father's family to death. Did you invite us here to rob us?'	15 Al quarto giorno essi si rivolsero alla moglie di Sansone: "Seduci tuo marito, perché ci dia lui la soluzione, altrimenti daremo fuoco a te e alla casa di tuo padre! Ci avete invitato qua per derubarci!?".
16 Samson's wife then went to him in tears and said, 'You only hate me, you do not love me. You haveasked my fel ow countrymen a riddle and told not even me the answer.' He said to her, 'I have not told even myfather or mother; why should I tel you?'	16 Allora la moglie di Sansone si mise a piangere fra le sue braccia; diceva: "Però tu mi odi e non sei innamorato di me. Tu hai proposto un enigma a quelli della mia gente, senza dire la soluzione neanche a me". Sansone le rispose: "Non l'ho detta neanche a mio padre e a mia madre, perché dovrei dirla a te?".
17 She wept on his neck for the seven days that their feasting lasted. She was so persistent that on theseventh day he told her the answer, and she told her fel ow-countrymen.	17 Essa continuò a piangere fra le sue braccia per tutti e sette i giorni che durò il banchetto, finché il settimo giorno Sansone, non resistendo più alle insistenze della donna, finì con lo svelarle la soluzione, che essa riferì subito alla sua gente.
18 So on the seventh day, before he went into the bedroom, the men of the town said to him: What issweeter than honey, and what stronger than a lion? He retorted: If you had not ploughed with my heifer, youwould never have solved my riddle.	18 Così il settimo giorno, prima che tramontasse il sole, gli uomini della città dissero a Sansone: "Che cosa è più dolce del miele? E che cosa più forte del leone?". Rispose loro Sansone: "Se non aveste arato con la mia giovenca, non avreste risolto il mio enigma".
19 Then the spirit of Yahweh seized on him. He went down to Ashkelon, kil ed thirty men there, tookwhat they wore and gave the festal robes to those who had answered the riddle, then burning with rage returnedto his father's house.	19 Allora, investito dallo spirito del Signore, Sansone discese ad Ascalon, vi uccise trenta uomini, tolse loro le vesti che avevano e così poté dare le trenta vesti a coloro che avevano risolto l'enigma. Ma ormai in preda allo sdegno, se ne tornò alla casa di suo padre.
20 Samson's wife was then given to the companion who had acted as his best man.	20 La moglie di Sansone fu data in sposa al suo paraninfo.
