Peter, apostle of Jesus Christ, to al those living as aliens in the Dispersion of Pontus, Galatia,Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen,1 Peter, Apostle of Jesus Christ, to the newly-arrived elect of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
in the foresight of God the Father, to be made holy by the Spirit, obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkledwith his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.2 in accord with the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, with the obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be multiplied for you.
Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy has given us a new birthinto a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has regenerated us into a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead:
and into a heritage that can never be spoilt or soiled and never fade away. It is reserved in heaven foryou4 unto an incorruptible and undefiled and unfading inheritance, which is reserved for you in heaven.
who are being kept safe by God's power through faith until the salvation which has been prepared isrevealed at the final point of time.5 By the power of God, you are guarded through faith for a salvation which is ready to be revealed in the end time.
This is a great joy to you, even though for a short time yet you must bear all sorts of trials;6 In this, you should exult, if now, for a brief time, it is necessary to be made sorrowful by various trials,
so that the worth of your faith, more valuable than gold, which is perishable even if it has been tested byfire, may be proved -- to your praise and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.7 so that the testing of your faith, which is much more precious than gold tested by fire, may be found in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
You have not seen him, yet you love him; and stil without seeing him you believe in him and so arealready fil ed with a joy so glorious that it cannot be described;8 For though you have not seen him, you love him. In him also, though you do not see him, you now believe. And in believing, you shall exult with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
and you are sure of the goal of your faith, that is, the salvation of your souls.9 returning with the goal of your faith, the salvation of souls.
This salvation was the subject of the search and investigation of the prophets who spoke of the graceyou were to receive,10 About this salvation, the prophets inquired and diligently searched, those who prophesied about the future grace in you,
searching out the time and circumstances for which the Spirit of Christ, bearing witness in them, wasrevealing the sufferings of Christ and the glories to fol ow them.11 inquiring as to what type of condition was signified to them by the Spirit of Christ, when foretelling those sufferings that are in Christ, as well as the subsequent glories.
It was revealed to them that it was for your sake and not their own that they were acting as servantsdelivering the message which has now been announced to you by those who preached to you the gospelthrough the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even the angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.12 To them, it was revealed that they were ministering, not for themselves, but for you those things which have now been announced to you through those who have preached the Gospel to you, through the Holy Spirit, who was sent down from heaven to the One upon whom the Angels desire to gaze.
Your minds, then, must be sober and ready for action; put all your hope in the grace brought to you bythe revelation of Jesus Christ.13 For this reason, gird the waist of your mind, be sober, and hope perfectly in the grace that is offered to you in the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Do not al ow yourselves to be shaped by the passions of your old ignorance,14 Be like sons of obedience, not conforming to the desires of your former ignorance,
but as obedient children, be yourselves holy in al your activity, after the model of the Holy One whocal s us,15 but in accord with him who has called you: the Holy One. And in every behavior, you yourself must be holy,
since scripture says, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'16 for it is written: “You shall be holy, for I am Holy.”
And if you address as Father him who judges without favouritism according to each individual's deeds, live out the time of your exile here in reverent awe.17 And if you invoke as Father him who, without showing favoritism to persons, judges according to each one’s work, then act in fear during the time of your sojourning here.
For you know that the price of your ransom from the futile way of life handed down from yourancestors was paid, not in anything perishable like silver or gold,18 For you know that it was not with corruptible gold or silver that you were redeemed away from your useless behavior in the traditions of your fathers,
but in precious blood as of a blameless and spotless lamb, Christ.19 but it was with the precious blood of Christ, an immaculate and undefiled lamb,
He was marked out before the world was made, and was revealed at the final point of time for yoursake.20 foreknown, certainly, before the foundation of the world, and made manifest in these latter times for your sake.
Through him you now have faith in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory for thisvery purpose -- that your faith and hope should be in God.21 Through him, you have been faithful to God, who raised him up from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope would be in God.
Since by your obedience to the truth you have purified yourselves so that you can experience thegenuine love of brothers, love each other intensely from the heart;22 So chastise your souls with the obedience of charity, in fraternal love, and love one another from a simple heart, attentively.
for your new birth was not from any perishable seed but from imperishable seed, the living andenduring Word of God.23 For you have been born again, not from corruptible seed, but from what is incorruptible, from the Word of God, living and remaining for all eternity.
For al humanity is grass, and al its beauty like the wild flower's. As grass withers, the flower fades,24 For all flesh is like the grass and all its glory is like the flower of the grass. The grass withers and its flower falls away.
but the Word of the Lord remains for ever. And this Word is the Good News that has been brought toyou.25 But the Word of the Lord endures for eternity. And this is the Word that has been evangelized to you.
