1 Here is a saying that you can rely on: to want to be a presiding elder is to desire a noble task.	1 Parola fedele: se uno desideri l'episcopato, ei desidera un bel lavoro.
2 That is why the presiding elder must have an impeccable character. Husband of one wife, he must betemperate, discreet and courteous, hospitable and a good teacher;	2 Fa dunque di mestieri, che il vescovo sia irreprensibile, che abbia preso una sola moglie, sobrio, prudente, modesto, pudico, ospitale, capace d'insegnare,
3 not a heavy drinker, nor hot-tempered, but gentle and peaceable, not avaricious,	3 Non dedito al vino, non violento, ma modesto; non litigioso, non interessato, ma
4 a man who manages his own household wel and brings his children up to obey him and be wel -behaved:	4 Che ben governi la propria casa, che tenga subordinati i figliuoli con perfetta onestà.
5 how can any man who does not understand how to manage his own household take care of the Churchof God?	5 (Che se uno non sa governare la propria casa, come mai avrà cura della Chiesa di Dio?)
6 He should not be a new convert, in case pride should turn his head and he incur the samecondemnation as the devil.	6 Non neofito, affinchè levandosi in superbia non cada nella dannazione del diavolo.
7 It is also necessary that he be held in good repute by outsiders, so that he never falls into disrepute andinto the devil's trap.	7 Fa d'uopo ancora, che egli sia in buona riputazione presso gli estranei, affinchè non cada nell'obbrobrio, e nel laccio del diavolo.
8 Similarly, deacons must be respectable, not double-tongued, moderate in the amount of wine they drinkand with no squalid greed for money.	8 Similmente i diaconi pudichi, non di due lingue, non dati al molto vino, non portati ai sordidi guadagni:
9 They must hold to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.	9 Che portino il mistero della fede in una coscienza pura.
10 They are first to be examined, and admitted to serve as deacons only if there is nothing against them.	10 E questi pure prima si provino: e poi esercitino il ministero, essendo senza reato.
11 Similarly, women must be respectable, not gossips, but sober and whol y reliable.	11 Le donne parimenti pudichce non date alla detrazione, sobrie, fedeli in ogni cosa.
12 Deacons must be husbands of one wife and must be people who manage their children andhouseholds wel .	12 I diaconi abbiano presa una sola donna: e regolino bene i loro figliuoli, e le proprie loro case.
13 Those of them who carry out their duties wel as deacons wil earn a high standing for themselves andan authoritative voice in matters concerning faith in Christ Jesus.	13 Imperocché quelli, che faranno bene il lor ministero, si acquisteranno un grado onorevole, e una gran fiducia nella fede di Cristo Gesù.
14 I write this to you in the hope that I may be able to come to you soon;	14 Scrivo a te queste cose, avendo speranza di venir presto da te.
15 but in case I should be delayed, I want you to know how people ought to behave in God's household --that is, in the Church of the living God, pillar and support of the truth.	15 Affinchè ove mai io tardassi, tu sappia come diportarti nella casa di Dio, che è la Chiesa di Dio vivo, colonna, e appoggio della verità.
16 Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is very deep indeed: He was made visible in the flesh,justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed to the gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up inglory.	16 Ed è evidentemente grande il mistero della pietà, il quale si è manifestato nella carne, è stato giustificato mediante lo Spirito, è stato conosciato dagli Angeli, è stato predicato alle gente, è stato creduto nei mondo, è stato assunto nella gloria.
