Joshua 23

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Now long after Yahweh had given Israel rest from al the enemies surrounding them -- Joshua was oldnow, far advanced in years-	1 Cuando ya hacía mucho tiempo que el Señor había concedido la paz a Israel, librándolo de todos los enemigos que tenía a su alrededor, Josué –que era un anciano de edad muy avanzada–
2 Joshua summoned al Israel, their elders, leaders, judges and officials, and said to them, 'I myself amold, far advanced in years;	2 convocó a todo Israel, a sus ancianos, a sus jefes, a sus jueces y a sus escribas, y les dijo: «Yo estoy viejo; ya tengo muchos años.
3 you for your part have witnessed al that Yahweh your God has done to al these nations for your sake;Yahweh your God himself has fought for you.	3 Ustedes han visto cómo trató el Señor, su Dios, a todos esos pueblos a causa de ustedes, porque era el Señor, su Dios, el que combatía por ustedes.
4 Look, these nations stil remaining, and al the nations which I have exterminated from the Jordan althe way to the Great Sea in the west, I have al otted to you as the heritage for your tribes.	4 Ahora miren bien: yo les he sorteado como herencia para cada tribu tanto a las naciones que todavía quedan como a las que yo mismo exterminé, desde el Jordán hasta el gran mar Occidental.
5 Yahweh your God wil himself drive them out before you; he wil dispossess them before you and youwil take possession of their country, as Yahweh your God has promised you.	5 El Señor, su Dios, las dispersará delante de ustedes y las desposeerá de sus dominios, para que ustedes puedan tomar posesión de su tierra, conforme a la promesa que les hizo el Señor, su Dios.
6 'So be very firm about keeping and doing everything written in the Book of the Law of Moses, notswerving from that either to right or to left.	6 Por eso, sean cada vez más constantes en observar y en cumplir todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la Ley de Moisés, sin desviarse de él ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda,
7 Never mix with the peoples who are stil left beside you. Do not utter the names of their gods, do notswear by them, do not serve them and do not bow down to them.	7 y sin mezclarse con esos pueblos que todavía quedan con ustedes. No invoquen el nombre de sus dioses ni juren por ellos; no los sirvan ni se postren ante ellos.
8 On the contrary, you must be loyal to Yahweh your God as you have been til now.	8 Por el contrario, manténganse fieles al Señor, su Dios, como lo han hecho hasta el día de hoy.
9 Yahweh has dispossessed great and powerful nations before you, and no one so far has been able toresist you.	9 El Señor desposeyó delante de ustedes a naciones numerosas y fuertes; y hasta el presente, nadie ha podido resistirles.
10 One man of you was able to rout a thousand of them, since Yahweh your God was himself fighting foryou, as he had promised you.	10 Bastaba uno solo para perseguir a mil, porque el Señor, su Dios, era el que combatía por ustedes, como él mismo les había prometido.
11 Be very careful, as you value your life, to love Yahweh your God.	11 Por eso, pongan sumo cuidado en amar al Señor, su Dios.
12 'But should you in any way relapse, if you make friends with the remnant of these nations stil livingbeside you, if you intermarry with them, if you mix with them and they with you,	12 Pero si se vuelven atrás y se unen al resto de esos pueblos que todavía quedan con ustedes; si establecen con ellos lazos de parentesco, mezclándose ustedes con ellos y ellos con ustedes,
13 then know for certain that Yahweh your God wil stop dispossessing these nations before you, and foryou they will be a snare, a pitfal , thorns in your sides and thistles in your eyes, until you vanish from this finecountry given you by Yahweh your God.	13 entonces, tengan la plena seguridad de que el Señor, su Dios, no seguirá desposeyendo a esas naciones delante de ustedes, y ellos serán para ustedes una red, un lazo, un látigo sobre sus costados, y aguijones en sus ojos, hasta que por fin desaparecerán de esta hermosa tierra que les dio el Señor, su Dios.
14 'Today, you see, I am going the way of al the earth. Acknowledge with all your heart and soul that ofal the promises made to you by Yahweh your God, not one has failed: al have been fulfil ed -- not one hasfailed.	14 Ya estoy a punto de irme por el camino que les toca recorrer a todos. Reconozcan entonces con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, que ni una sola de todas esas admirables promesas que les hizo el Señor, ha caído en el vacío: todas se han cumplido, y no falló ni una sola.
15 'As every promise made to you by Yahweh your God has been fulfil ed for you, by the same tokenYahweh wil fulfil al his threats against you, even to exterminating you from this fine country given you by Yahweh your God.	15 Pero así como se han cumplido todas las admirables promesas que les hizo el Señor, su Dios, también él atraerá sobre ustedes todas las amenazas, hasta exterminarlos de esta hermosa tierra que les dio el Señor, su Dios.
16 'For if you violate the covenant which Yahweh your God has imposed on you, if you go and serveother gods and bow down to them, then Yahweh's anger wil be roused against you and you will quickly vanishfrom the fine country which he has given you.'	16 Si quebrantan la alianza del Señor, su Dios, la que él les impuso, y van a servir a otros dioses y a postrarse delante de ellos, la ira del Señor arderá contra ustedes, y desaparecerán muy pronto de la hermosa tierra que él les dio».
