Joshua 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 This was what the Israelites received as their heritage in Canaan, which was given them as theirheritage by the priest, Eleazar, and by Joshua son of Nun, with the heads of families of the tribes of Israel.	1 Ecco ciò che ricevettero in eredità le tribù dei figli d'Israele in terra di Canaan, ciò che dettero loro in eredità Eleazaro sacerdote e Giosuè, figlio di Nun e i capi famiglia, dei figli d'Israele.
2 They received their heritage by lot, as Yahweh had ordered through Moses, as regards the nine tribesand the half-tribe.	2 Distribuzioni fatte a sorte fra le nove tribù e mezza, come aveva comandato il Signore per mezzo di Mosè;
3 For Moses himself had given the two-and-a-half tribes their heritage on the further side of the Jordan,although to the Levites he had given no heritage with them.	3 perché alle altre due tribù e mezza Mosè aveva dato il possesso al di là del Giordano, mentre ai leviti non aveva dato alcun possedimento in mezzo ad esse.
4 Since the sons of Joseph formed two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, no share in the country wasgiven to the Levites, apart from some towns to live in, with their pasture lands for their livestock and theirpossessions.	4 I figli di Giuseppe, infatti, formavano due tribù: Manasse ed Efraim, e ai leviti non era stato dato alcun possesso nel paese, ma soltanto alcune città per abitarvi e le pasture adiacenti ad esse per i loro greggi e i loro beni.
5 The Israelites did as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and shared out the country.	5 I figli d'Israele, nella ripartizione del terreno, fecero come aveva comandato il Signore per mezzo di Mosè.
6 Some sons of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him,'You know what Yahweh said to Moses, man of God, at Kadesh-Barnea concerning you and me.	6 Frattanto i figli di Giuda vennero da Giosuè a Gàlgala e Caleb, figlio di Iefunne, il kenizzita, gli disse: "Tu sai bene quello che il Signore disse a Mosè, uomo di Dio, a mio e tuo riguardo, a Kades-Barnea.
7 I was forty years old when Moses, servant of Yahweh, sent me from Kadesh-Barnea to reconnoitre thiscountry, and I made him a completely honest report.	7 Io avevo quarant'anni quando Mosè, servo del Signore, mi mandò da Kades-Barnea ad esplorare il paese ed io lo informai di tutto come avevo nel cuore.
8 The brothers, however, who had gone up with me discouraged the people, whereas I myselfscrupulously obeyed Yahweh my God.	8 E mentre i miei fratelli, che erano venuti con me, scoraggiavano il popolo, io seguivo fedelmente il Signore, mio Dio.
9 That day Moses swore this oath, "Be sure of this, that the country your foot has trodden wil be aheritage for you and your children for ever, since you have scrupulously obeyed Yahweh my God."	9 Perciò in quel giorno Mosè giurò: "La terra dove hai posato i tuoi piedi sarà data in eredità a te e ai tuoi figli per sempre, perché hai seguito fedelmente il Signore, mio Dio".
10 From then til now, Yahweh has kept me alive in observance of his promise. It is forty-five years sinceYahweh said this to Moses -- Israel was then going through the desert -- and now I am eighty-five years old.	10 Ed ora, ecco che il Signore, come aveva promesso, mi ha conservato in vita questi quarantacinque anni, da quando egli disse questa cosa a Mosè, allorché Israele vagava nel deserto; ed ora, ecco, io oggi ho ottantacinque anni.
11 Today I am stil as strong as the day when Moses sent me out on that errand; for fighting, for goingand coming, I am as strong now as then.	11 Ma sono ancora forte come il giorno in cui Mosè mi mandò ad esplorare, pieno di forze come allora, io posso ancora combattere, andare e venire.
12 It is time you gave me the highlands, of which Yahweh spoke to me that day. You heard that day thatthere were Anakim and large, fortified towns there; but if Yahweh is with me, I shal drive them out, as Yahwehhas said.'	12 Dammi quindi ora questa montagna della quale parlò il Signore quel giorno; tu stesso infatti lo udisti quel giorno; là vi sono gli Anakiti e città grandi e fortificate. Se il Signore sarà con me, io li spodesterò, come ha detto il Signore".
13 Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as heritage.	13 Giosuè lo benedisse e diede Ebron in eredità a Caleb, figlio di Iefunne.
14 And hence Hebron down to the present day has remained the heritage of Caleb son of Jephunnehthe Kenizzite, since he had scrupulously obeyed Yahweh, God of Israel.	14 Perciò Ebron è rimasta possesso di Caleb, figlio di Iefunne, il kenizzita, fino ad oggi, perché egli aveva seguito fedelmente il Signore, Dio d'Israele.
15 Hebron in olden days was cal ed Kiriath-Arba. Arba had been the greatest of the Anakim. And thecountry had rest from warfare.	15 Prima Ebron si chiamava Kiriat-Arba, essendo stato questi l'uomo più famoso tra gli Anakiti. Poi il paese si riposò dalla guerra.
