Joshua 14

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 This was what the Israelites received as their heritage in Canaan, which was given them as theirheritage by the priest, Eleazar, and by Joshua son of Nun, with the heads of families of the tribes of Israel.	1 Estos son los territorios que los israelitas recibieron como herencia en el país de Canaán, o sea, los territorios que les asignaron el sacerdote Eleazar, Josué hijo de Nun, y los jefes de familia de las tribus de Israel.
2 They received their heritage by lot, as Yahweh had ordered through Moses, as regards the nine tribesand the half-tribe.	2 Ellos los distribuyeron mediante un sorteo –como el Señor lo había mandado por medio de Moisés– entre las nueve tribus y media que faltaban.
3 For Moses himself had given the two-and-a-half tribes their heritage on the further side of the Jordan,although to the Levites he had given no heritage with them.	3 Porque a las otras dos tribus y media, Moisés ya les había asignado una herencia al otro lado del Jordán, pero a los levitas no les había dado ninguna herencia en medio de ellos
4 Since the sons of Joseph formed two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, no share in the country wasgiven to the Levites, apart from some towns to live in, with their pasture lands for their livestock and theirpossessions.	4 Los hijos de José, por su parte, habían formado dos tribus: la de Efraím y la de Manasés; pero a los levitas no se les dio ningún territorio dentro del país, sino solamente algunas ciudades de residencia, con los correspondientes campos de pastoreo para su ganado y sus rebaños.
5 The Israelites did as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and shared out the country.	5 En la distribución de la tierra los israelitas hicieron exactamente lo que el Señor había ordenado a Moisés.
6 Some sons of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him,'You know what Yahweh said to Moses, man of God, at Kadesh-Barnea concerning you and me.	6 Los hijos de Judá fueron a Guilgal, donde estaba Josué; y Caleb, hijo de Iefuné, el quenizita, le dijo: «Tú sabes muy bien lo que el Señor dijo a Moisés, el hombre de Dios, acerca de mí y de ti, en Cades Barné.
7 I was forty years old when Moses, servant of Yahweh, sent me from Kadesh-Barnea to reconnoitre thiscountry, and I made him a completely honest report.	7 Yo tenía cuarenta años cuando Moisés, el servidor del Señor, me envió de Cades Barné a explorar el país, y yo lo informé con toda franqueza.
8 The brothers, however, who had gone up with me discouraged the people, whereas I myselfscrupulously obeyed Yahweh my God.	8 Mientras los compañeros que habían ido conmigo desalentaban al pueblo, yo me mantuve plenamente fiel al Señor, mi Dios.
9 That day Moses swore this oath, "Be sure of this, that the country your foot has trodden wil be aheritage for you and your children for ever, since you have scrupulously obeyed Yahweh my God."	9 Aquel día, Moisés hizo esta promesa, ratificándola con un juramento: «La tierra que pisaron tus pies será herencia tuya y de tus hijos para siempre, porque te has mantenido plenamente fiel al Señor, mi Dios»,
10 From then til now, Yahweh has kept me alive in observance of his promise. It is forty-five years sinceYahweh said this to Moses -- Israel was then going through the desert -- and now I am eighty-five years old.	10 Ahora ves que el Señor me ha conservado la vida conforme a su promesa. Y han pasado cuarenta y cinco años desde que el Señor dirigió esta palabra a Moisés, cuando todavía Israel iba por el desierto. Ahora tengo ochenta y cinco años,
11 Today I am stil as strong as the day when Moses sent me out on that errand; for fighting, for goingand coming, I am as strong now as then.	11 pero todavía estoy tan fuerte como el día en que Moisés me envió. Hoy tengo la misma fuerza que tenía entonces, tanto para combatir como para ir de un lado a otro.
12 It is time you gave me the highlands, of which Yahweh spoke to me that day. You heard that day thatthere were Anakim and large, fortified towns there; but if Yahweh is with me, I shal drive them out, as Yahwehhas said.'	12 Por eso, dame esta montaña que el Señor me prometió aquel día. Tú mismo oíste ese día que allí se encuentran los anaquitas, y que las ciudades son grandes y amuralladas. Pero sin duda el Señor estará conmigo, y yo los expulsaré como él me lo prometió».
13 Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as heritage.	13 Entonces Josué bendijo a Caleb, hijo de Iefuné, y le dio Hebrón como herencia.
14 And hence Hebron down to the present day has remained the heritage of Caleb son of Jephunnehthe Kenizzite, since he had scrupulously obeyed Yahweh, God of Israel.	14 Por eso Hebrón ha sido hasta el día de hoy la herencia de Caleb, hijo de Iefuné, el quenizita, ya que él se había mantenido plenamente fiel al Señor, el Dios de Israel.
15 Hebron in olden days was cal ed Kiriath-Arba. Arba had been the greatest of the Anakim. And thecountry had rest from warfare.	15 El nombre primitivo de Hebrón fue Quiriat Arbá, y Arbá fue el más grande de los anaquitas. Después cesó la guerra en el país.
