Romans 7

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 As people who are familiar with the Law, brothers, you cannot have forgotten that the law can control aperson only during that person's lifetime.	1 ¿Acaso ustedes ignoran, hermanos –hablo a gente que entiende de leyes– que el hombre está sujeto a la ley únicamente mientras vive?
2 A married woman, for instance, is bound to her husband by law, as long as he lives, but when herhusband dies all her legal obligation to him as husband is ended.	2 Así, una mujer casada permanece ligada por la ley a su esposo mientras él viva; pero al morir el esposo, queda desligada de la ley que la unía a él.
3 So if she were to have relations with another man while her husband was still alive, she would betermed an adulteress; but if her husband dies, her legal obligation comes to an end and if she then has relationswith another man, that does not make her an adulteress.	3 Por lo tanto, será tenida por adúltera si en vida de su marido se une a otro hombre. En cambio, si su esposo muere, quedará desligada de la ley, y no será considerada adúltera si se casa con otro hombre.
4 In the same way you, my brothers, through the body of Christ have become dead to the Law and soyou are able to belong to someone else, that is, to him who was raised from the dead to make us live fruitful y for God.	4 De igual manera, hermanos, por la unión con el cuerpo de Cristo, ustedes han muerto a la Ley, para pertenecer a otro, a aquel que resucitó a fin de que podamos dar frutos para Dios.
5 While we were stil living by our natural inclinations, the sinful passions aroused by the Law wereworking in al parts of our bodies to make us live lives which were fruitful only for death.	5 Porque mientras vivíamos según la naturaleza carnal, las malas pasiones, estimuladas por la Ley, obraban en nuestros miembros para hacernos producir frutos de muerte.
6 But now we are released from the Law, having died to what was binding us, and so we are in a newservice, that of the spirit, and not in the old service of a written code.	6 Pero ahora, muertos a todo aquello que nos tenía esclavizados, hemos sido liberados de la Ley, de manera que podamos servir a Dios con un espíritu nuevo y no según una letra envejecida.
7 What should we say, then? That the Law itself is sin? Out of the question! All the same, if it had notbeen for the Law, I should not have known what sin was; for instance, I should not have known what it meant tocovet if the Law had not said: You are not to covet.	7 ¿Diremos entonces que la Ley es pecado? ¡De ninguna manera! Pero yo no hubiera conocido el pecado si no fuera por la Ley. En efecto, hubiera ignorado la codicia, si la Ley no dijera: "No codiciarás".
8 But, once it found the opportunity through that commandment, sin produced in me al kinds ofcovetousness; as long as there is no Law, sin is dead.	8 Pero el pecado, aprovechando la oportunidad que le daba el precepto, provocó en mí toda suerte de codicia, porque sin la Ley, el pecado es cosa muerta.
9 Once, when there was no Law, I used to be alive; but when the commandment came, sin came to life	9 Hubo un tiempo en que yo vivía sin Ley, pero al llegar el precepto, tomó vida el pecado,
10 and I died. The commandment was meant to bring life but I found it brought death,	10 y yo, en cambio, morí. Así resultó que el mandamiento que debía darme la vida, me llevó a la muerte.
11 because sin, finding its opportunity by means of the commandment, beguiled me and, by means of it,kil ed me.	11 Porque el pecado, aprovechando la oportunidad que le daba el precepto, me sedujo y, por medio del precepto, me causó la muerte.
12 So then, the Law is holy, and what it commands is holy and upright and good.	12 De manera que la Ley es santa, como es santo, justo y bueno el precepto.
13 Does that mean that something good resulted in my dying? Out of the question! But sin, in order to beidentified as sin, caused my death through that good thing, and so it is by means of the commandment that sinshows its unbounded sinful power.	13 ¿Pero es posible que lo bueno me cause la muerte? ¡De ningún modo! Lo que pasa es que el pecado, a fin de mostrarse como tal, se valió de algo bueno para causarme la muerte, y así el pecado, por medio del precepto, llega a la plenitud de su malicia.
14 We are wel aware that the Law is spiritual: but I am a creature of flesh and blood sold as a slave tosin.	14 Porque sabemos que la Ley es espiritual, pero yo soy carnal, y estoy vendido como esclavo al pecado.
15 I do not understand my own behaviour; I do not act as I mean to, but I do things that I hate.	15 Y ni siquiera entiendo lo que hago, porque no hago lo que quiero sino lo que aborrezco.
16 While I am acting as I do not want to, I still acknowledge the Law as good,	16 Pero si hago lo que no quiero, con eso reconozco que la Ley es buena.
17 so it is not myself acting, but the sin which lives in me.	17 Pero entonces, no soy yo quien hace eso, sino el pecado que reside en mí,
18 And really, I know of nothing good living in me -- in my natural self, that is -- for though the wil to dowhat is good is in me, the power to do it is not:	18 porque sé que nada bueno hay en mí, es decir, en mi carne. En efecto, el deseo de hacer el bien está a mi alcance, pero no el realizarlo.
19 the good thing I want to do, I never do; the evil thing which I do not want -- that is what I do.	19 Y así, no hago el bien que quiero, sino el mal que no quiero.
20 But every time I do what I do not want to, then it is not myself acting, but the sin that lives in me.	20 Pero cuando hago lo que no quiero, no soy yo quien lo hace, sino el pecado que reside en mí.
21 So I find this rule: that for me, where I want to do nothing but good, evil is close at my side.	21 De esa manera, vengo a descubrir esta ley: queriendo hacer el bien, se me presenta el mal.
22 In my inmost self I dearly love God's law,	22 Porque de acuerdo con el hombre interior, me complazco en la Ley de Dios,
23 but I see that acting on my body there is a different law which battles against the law in my mind. So Iam brought to be a prisoner of that law of sin which lives inside my body.	23 pero observo que hay en mis miembros otra ley que lucha contra la ley de mi razón y me ata a la ley del pecado que está en mis miembros.
24 What a wretched man I am! Who wil rescue me from this body doomed to death?	24 ¡Ay de mí! ¿Quién podrá librarme de este cuerpo que me lleva a la muerte?
25 God -- thanks be to him -- through Jesus Christ our Lord. So it is that I myself with my mind obey thelaw of God, but in my disordered nature I obey the law of sin.	25 ¡Gracias a Dios, por Jesucristo, nuestro Señor! En una palabra, con mi corazón sirvo a la Ley de Dios, pero con mi carne sirvo a la ley del pecado.
