Acts of the Apostles 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Saul approved of the killing. That day a bitter persecution started against the church in Jerusalem, andeveryone except the apostles scattered to the country districts of Judaea and Samaria.	1 Saulo aprobaba su muerte. Aquel día se desató una gran persecución contra la Iglesia de Jerusalén. Todos, a excepción de los apóstoles, se dispersaron por las regiones de Judea y Samaria.
2 There were some devout people, however, who buried Stephen and made great mourning for him.	2 Unos hombres piadosos sepultaron a Esteban e hicieron gran duelo por él.
3 Saul then began doing great harm to the church; he went from house to house arresting both men andwomen and sending them to prison.	3 Entretanto Saulo hacía estragos en la Iglesia; entraba por las casas, se llevaba por la fuerza hombres y mujeres, y los metía en la cárcel.
4 Once they had scattered, they went from place to place preaching the good news.	4 Los que se habían dispersado iban por todas partes anunciando la Buena Nueva de la Palabra.
5 And Philip went to a Samaritan town and proclaimed the Christ to them.	5 Felipe bajó a una ciudad de Samaria y les predicaba a Cristo.
6 The people unanimously welcomed the message Philip preached, because they had heard of themiracles he worked and because they saw them for themselves.	6 La gente escuchaba con atención y con un mismo espíritu lo que decía Felipe, porque le oían y veían las señales que realizaba;
7 For unclean spirits came shrieking out of many who were possessed, and several paralytics and crippleswere cured.	7 pues de muchos posesos salían los espíritus inmundos dando grandes voces, y muchos paralíticos y cojos quedaron curados.
8 As a result there was great rejoicing in that town.	8 Y hubo una gran alegría en aquella ciudad.
9 Now a man cal ed Simon had for some time been practising magic arts in the town and astounded theSamaritan people. He had given it out that he was someone momentous,	9 En la ciudad había ya de tiempo atrás un hombre llamado Simón que practicaba la magia y tenía atónito al pueblo de Samaria y decía que él era algo grande.
10 and everyone believed in him; eminent citizens and ordinary people alike had declared, 'He is thedivine power that is called Great.'	10 Y todos, desde el menor hasta el mayor, le prestaban atención y decían: «Este es la Potencia de Dios llamada la Grande».
11 He had this fol owing because for a considerable period they had been astounded by his wizardry.	11 Le prestaban atención porque les había tenido atónitos por mucho tiempo con sus artes mágicas.
12 But when they came to accept Philip's preaching of the good news about the kingdom of God and thename of Jesus Christ, they were baptised, both men and women,	12 Pero cuando creyeron a Felipe que anunciaba la Buena Nueva del Reino de Dios y el nombre de Jesucristo, empezaron a bautizarse hombres y mujeres.
13 and even Simon himself became a believer. After his baptism Simon went round constantly with Philipand was astonished when he saw the wonders and great miracles that took place.	13 Hasta el mismo Simón creyó y, una vez bautizado, no se apartaba de Felipe; y estaba atónito al ver las señales y grandes milagros que se realizaban.
14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peterand John to them,	14 Al enterarse los apóstoles que estaban en Jerusalén de que Samaria había aceptado la Palabra de Dios, les enviaron a Pedro y a Juan.
15 and they went down there and prayed for them to receive the Holy Spirit,	15 Estos bajaron y oraron por ellos para que recibieran el Espíritu Santo;
16 for as yet he had not come down on any of them: they had only been baptised in the name of the LordJesus.	16 pues todavía no había descendido sobre ninguno de ellos; únicamente habían sido bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús.
17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.	17 Entonces les imponían las manos y recibían el Espíritu Santo.
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offeredthem money,	18 Al ver Simón que mediante la imposición de las manos de los apóstoles se daba el Espíritu, les ofreció dinero diciendo:
19 with the words, 'Give me the same power so that anyone I lay my hands on wil receive the Holy Spirit.'	19 «Dadme a mí también este poder para que reciba el Espíritu Santo aquel a quien yo impoga las manos».
20 Peter answered, 'May your silver be lost for ever, and you with it, for thinking that money could buywhat God has given for nothing!	20 Pedro le contestó: «Vaya tu dinero a la perdición y tú con él; pues has pensado que el don de Dios se compra con dinero.
21 You have no share, no part, in this: God can see how your heart is warped.	21 En este asunto no tienes tú parte ni herencia, pues tu corazón no es recto delante de Dios.
22 Repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that this scheme of yours may be forgiven;	22 Arrepiéntete, pues, de esa tu maldad y ruega al Señor, a ver si se te perdona ese pensamiento de tu corazón;
23 it is plain to me that you are held in the bitterness of gal and the chains of sin.'	23 porque veo que tú estás en hiel de amargura y en ataduras de iniquidad».
24 Simon replied, 'Pray to the Lord for me yourselves so that none of the things you have spoken aboutmay happen to me.'	24 Simón respondió: «Rogad vosotros al Señor por mí, para que no venga sobre mí ninguna de esas cosas que habéis dicho».
25 Having given their testimony and proclaimed the word of the Lord, they went back to Jerusalem,preaching the good news to a number of Samaritan vil ages.	25 Ellos, después de haber dado testimonio y haber predicado la Palabra del Señor, se volvieron a Jerusalén evangelizando muchos pueblos samaritanos.
26 The angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, 'Set out at noon and go along the road that leads fromJerusalem down to Gaza, the desert road.'	26 El Angel del Señor habló a Felipe diciendo: «Levántate y marcha hacia el mediodía por el camino que baja de Jerusalén a Gaza. Es desierto».
27 So he set off on his journey. Now an Ethiopian had been on pilgrimage to Jerusalem; he was a eunuchand an officer at the court of the kandake, or queen, of Ethiopia; he was her chief treasurer.	27 Se levantó y partió. Y he aquí que un etíope eunuco, alto funcionario de Candace, reina de los etíopes, que estaba a cargo de todos sus tesoros, y había venido a adorar en Jerusalén,
28 He was now on his way home; and as he sat in his chariot he was reading the prophet Isaiah.	28 regresaba sentado en su carro, leyendo al profeta Isaías.
29 The Spirit said to Philip, 'Go up and join that chariot.'	29 El Espíritu dijo a Felipe: «Acércate y ponte junto a ese carro».
30 When Philip ran up, he heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, 'Do you understand what youare reading?'	30 Felipe corrió hasta él y le oyó leer al profeta Isaías; y le dijo: «¿Entiendes lo que vas leyendo?»
31 He replied, 'How could I, unless I have someone to guide me?' So he urged Philip to get in and sit byhis side.	31 El contestó: «¿Cómo lo puedo entender si nadie me hace de guía?» Y rogó a Felipe que subiese y se sentase con él.
32 Now the passage of scripture he was reading was this: Like a lamb led to the slaughter-house, like asheep dumb in front of its shearers, he never opens his mouth.	32 El pasaje de la Escritura que iba leyendo era éste: «Fue llevado como una oveja al matadero; y como cordero, mudo delante del que lo trasquila, así él no abre la boca.
33 In his humiliation fair judgement was denied him. Who wil ever talk about his descendants, since hislife on earth has been cut short?	33 En su humillación le fue negada la justicia; ¿quién podrá contar su descendencia? Porque su vida fue arrancada de la tierra».
34 The eunuch addressed Philip and said, 'Tel me, is the prophet referring to himself or someone else?'	34 El eunuco preguntó a Felipe: «Te ruego me digas de quién dice esto el profeta: ¿de sí mismo o de otro?»
35 Starting, therefore, with this text of scripture Philip proceeded to explain the good news of Jesus to him.	35 Felipe entonces, partiendo de este texto de la Escritura, se puso a anunciarle la Buena Nueva de Jesús.
36 Further along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, 'Look,is some water; is thereanything to prevent my being baptised?'	36 Siguiendo el camino llegaron a un sitio donde había agua. El eunuco dijo: «Aquí hay agua; ¿qué impide que yo sea bautizado?»

38 He ordered the chariot to stop, then Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water and hebaptised him.	38 Y mandó detener el carro. Bajaron ambos al agua, Felipe y el eunuco; y lo bautizó,
39 But after they had come up out of the water again Philip was taken away by the Spirit of the Lord, andthe eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing.	39 y en saliendo del agua, el Espíritu del Señor arrebató a Felipe y ya no le vio más el eunuco, que siguió gozoso su camino.
40 Philip appeared in Azotus and continued his journey, proclaiming the good news in every town as faras Caesarea.	40 Felipe se encontró en Azoto y recorría evangelizando todas las ciudades hasta llegar a Cesarea.
