1 Saul approved of the killing. That day a bitter persecution started against the church in Jerusalem, andeveryone except the apostles scattered to the country districts of Judaea and Samaria.	1 Saul, pour sa part, était bien d’accord pour qu’on le fasse mourir. C’est alors le début d’une grande persécution contre l’Église à Jérusalem, et tous sauf les apôtres se dispersent dans les districts de Judée et de Samarie.
2 There were some devout people, however, who buried Stephen and made great mourning for him.	2 Des hommes de foi ensevelissent Étienne et font pour lui un grand deuil
3 Saul then began doing great harm to the church; he went from house to house arresting both men andwomen and sending them to prison.	3 cependant que Saul essaye de détruire l’Église: il entre dans les maisons et en fait sortir hommes et femmes qu’il fait mettre en prison.
4 Once they had scattered, they went from place to place preaching the good news.	4 Mais ceux qui se sont dispersés répandent la Bonne Nouvelle là où ils passent.
5 And Philip went to a Samaritan town and proclaimed the Christ to them.	5 C’est ainsi que Philippe annonce le Christ à des Samaritains dans une de leurs villes où il est descendu.
6 The people unanimously welcomed the message Philip preached, because they had heard of themiracles he worked and because they saw them for themselves.	6 En entendant parler Philippe, en voyant les miracles qu’il fait, toute la population accueille son message.
7 For unclean spirits came shrieking out of many who were possessed, and several paralytics and crippleswere cured.	7 Car plusieurs démons impurs sont sortis des possédés en poussant de grands cris, des gens paralysés ou impotents ont été guéris,
8 As a result there was great rejoicing in that town.	8 et c’est une véritable joie dans cette ville.
9 Now a man cal ed Simon had for some time been practising magic arts in the town and astounded theSamaritan people. He had given it out that he was someone momentous,	9 Un homme du nom de Simon avait précédé Philippe dans cette ville. Avec ses tours de magie, il éblouissait le peuple de Samarie et se faisait passer pour un grand personnage.
10 and everyone believed in him; eminent citizens and ordinary people alike had declared, 'He is thedivine power that is called Great.'	10 Tous ne juraient que par lui, du plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, et l’on disait: "C’est lui la Puissance de Dieu, celle qu’on appelle la Grande.”
11 He had this fol owing because for a considerable period they had been astounded by his wizardry.	11 Cela faisait un bon moment qu’il les émerveillait avec ses tours magiques, aussi ne juraient-ils que par lui.
12 But when they came to accept Philip's preaching of the good news about the kingdom of God and thename of Jesus Christ, they were baptised, both men and women,	12 Mais lorsque Philippe leur annonce le Royaume de Dieu et le pouvoir sauveur de Jésus, le Messie, ils le croient, et les hommes comme les femmes viennent se faire baptiser.
13 and even Simon himself became a believer. After his baptism Simon went round constantly with Philipand was astonished when he saw the wonders and great miracles that took place.	13 Simon lui-même croit et se fait baptiser; il ne lâche pas Philippe et il n’en revient pas quand il voit les signes et les grands miracles qui se produisent.
14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peterand John to them,	14 Les apôtres restés à Jérusalem savaient déjà qu’en Samarie on avait accueilli la parole de Dieu; ils leur envoyèrent donc Pierre et Jean.
15 and they went down there and prayed for them to receive the Holy Spirit,	15 Ceux-ci firent la route et prièrent pour eux afin qu’ils reçoivent l’Esprit Saint,
16 for as yet he had not come down on any of them: they had only been baptised in the name of the LordJesus.	16 car il n’était encore descendu sur aucun d’eux: ils étaient seulement baptisés au nom du Seigneur Jésus.
17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.	17 Mais alors on leur imposa les mains et ils reçurent l’Esprit Saint.
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offeredthem money,	18 Lorsque Simon vit l’Esprit Saint donné par l’imposition des mains, il se présenta comme acheteur:
19 with the words, 'Give me the same power so that anyone I lay my hands on wil receive the Holy Spirit.'	19 "Donnez-moi ce pouvoir, leur dit-il, que je puisse moi aussi imposer les mains et que les gens reçoivent l’Esprit Saint.”
20 Peter answered, 'May your silver be lost for ever, and you with it, for thinking that money could buywhat God has given for nothing!	20 Pierre lui dit: "Ton argent peut se perdre avec toi! Comment as-tu pensé acquérir le don de Dieu en l’achetant?
21 You have no share, no part, in this: God can see how your heart is warped.	21 Tu n’as rien à espérer dans cette affaire, ce n’est pas ta place, car ton cœur n’est pas droit devant Dieu.
22 Repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that this scheme of yours may be forgiven;	22 Il faut te repentir de cette aberration et prier le Seigneur qu’il te pardonne, si c’est possible, ton projet.
23 it is plain to me that you are held in the bitterness of gal and the chains of sin.'	23 Car je ne vois sur ta route que l’amertume du fiel et les liens du mal.”
24 Simon replied, 'Pray to the Lord for me yourselves so that none of the things you have spoken aboutmay happen to me.'	24 Simon répondit: "Priez vous-mêmes le Seigneur pour moi, que rien de ce que vous venez de dire ne m’arrive.”
25 Having given their testimony and proclaimed the word of the Lord, they went back to Jerusalem,preaching the good news to a number of Samaritan vil ages.	25 Les apôtres donnèrent un témoignage. Après avoir fait entendre la parole du Seigneur ils retournèrent à Jérusalem; cela leur avait permis de porter la Bonne Nouvelle à plusieurs villages samaritains.
26 The angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, 'Set out at noon and go along the road that leads fromJerusalem down to Gaza, the desert road.'	26 Un ange du Seigneur s’adressa à Philippe: "Lève-toi, pars en direction du sud par la route qui descend de Jérusalem à Gaza. Il n’y a personne pour le moment.”
27 So he set off on his journey. Now an Ethiopian had been on pilgrimage to Jerusalem; he was a eunuchand an officer at the court of the kandake, or queen, of Ethiopia; he was her chief treasurer.	27 Philippe se leva et partit. Or voici que passe un Éthiopien, un eunuque de Candace, la reine des Éthiopiens, un homme très haut placé qui administrait toute sa fortune. Il était venu adorer à Jérusalem,
28 He was now on his way home; and as he sat in his chariot he was reading the prophet Isaiah.	28 et maintenant il retournait; il était assis dans son char et lisait le prophète Isaïe.
29 The Spirit said to Philip, 'Go up and join that chariot.'	29 C’est alors que l’Esprit dit à Philippe: "Approche-toi de ce char et reste collé juste à côté.”
30 When Philip ran up, he heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, 'Do you understand what youare reading?'	30 Philippe prend donc le pas de course et il entend l’autre qui lit à voix haute le prophète Isaïe. Alors il demande: "Comprends-tu ce que tu lis?”
31 He replied, 'How could I, unless I have someone to guide me?' So he urged Philip to get in and sit byhis side.	31 Et lui répond: "Comment vais-je comprendre sans personne pour me guider?” Puis il invite Philippe à monter et à s’asseoir à côté de lui.
32 Now the passage of scripture he was reading was this: Like a lamb led to the slaughter-house, like asheep dumb in front of its shearers, he never opens his mouth.	32 Le passage de l’Écriture qu’il était en train de lire était celui-ci: On l’a conduit comme une brebis à celui qui l’égorge, comme un agneau muet devant celui qui le tond, il n’a pas ouvert la bouche.
33 In his humiliation fair judgement was denied him. Who wil ever talk about his descendants, since hislife on earth has been cut short?	33 Dans son humiliation on l’a privé de ses droits; qui parlera de sa postérité? car sa vie a été retranchée de la terre.
34 The eunuch addressed Philip and said, 'Tel me, is the prophet referring to himself or someone else?'	34 L’eunuque demande alors à Philippe: "Je voudrais que tu me dises de qui le prophète dit cela: de lui-même ou de quelqu’un d’autre?”
35 Starting, therefore, with this text of scripture Philip proceeded to explain the good news of Jesus to him.	35 Et Philippe commence à parler; il lui annonce Jésus en partant de cette Écriture.
36 Further along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, 'Look,is some water; is thereanything to prevent my being baptised?'	36 Continuant leur chemin, ils arrivent à un point d’eau et l’eunuque demande: "Il y a de l’eau, qu’est ce qui m’empêcherait d’être baptisé?”

38 He ordered the chariot to stop, then Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water and hebaptised him.	38 Il ordonne d’arrêter le char; tous les deux, avec Philippe, ils descendent à l’eau et Philippe le baptise.
39 But after they had come up out of the water again Philip was taken away by the Spirit of the Lord, andthe eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing.	39 Après cela ils remontent de la source et c’est alors que l’Esprit du Seigneur enlève Philippe: l’eunuque ne le voit plus, mais c’est avec une grande joie qu’il reprend sa route.
40 Philip appeared in Azotus and continued his journey, proclaiming the good news in every town as faras Caesarea.	40 Quant à Philippe, il se retrouve à Azot et il part évangéliser l’un après l’autre tous les villages jusqu’à ce qu’il atteigne Césarée.
