NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Balaam then saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel. He did not go as before to seek omens butturned towards the desert.	1 E Balaam vedendo esser grato al signore che egli benedicesse Israele, non andò come pel passato a cercare l‘augurio: ma volse la sua faccia al deserto.
2 Raising his eyes Balaam saw Israel settled tribe by tribe; the spirit of God came on him	2 e, alzati gli occhi, vidi Israele nelle tende accampato per tribù, e, venutogli addosso lo spirito di Dio, presa la parabola, disse:
3 and he declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,	3 « Parola di Balaam figlio di Beor, parola dell'uomo dall'occhio chiuso,
4 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receivesthe divine answer, and his eyes are opened.	4 parola di colui che ode la parola di Dio, che contempla la visione dell'Onnipotente, che cade e gli si aprono gli occhi:
5 How fair your tents are, Jacob, how fair your dwel ings, Israel,	5 quanto son belli i tuoi padiglioni, o Giacobbe, e le tue tende, o Israele!
6 like val eys that stretch afar, like gardens by the banks of a river, like aloes planted by Yahweh, likecedars beside the waters!	6 Sono come valli selvose, come giardini in riva ad un fiume, come Tabernacolo piantato dal Signore, come cedri lungo le acque.
7 A hero arises from their stock, he reigns over countless peoples. His king is greater than Agag, andhis kingship held in honour.	7 L'acqua traboccherà dalla sua secchia, la sua semenza, avrà abbondanza di acque, il suo re sarà rigettato a causa d'Agag, e sarà tolto il suo regno.
8 God has brought him out of Egypt, is like the wild ox's horns to him. He devours the corpses of hisenemies, breaking their bones, piercing them with his arrows.	8 Dio lo ha, tratto fuori dall'Egitto, e la sua forza è come quella del rinoceront. Divorerà le genti sue nemiche, spezzerà le loro ossa, le trafiggerà colle frecci
9 He has crouched, he has lain down, like a lion, like a lioness; who dare rouse him? Blessed be thosewho bless you, and accursed be those who curse you!	9 si sdraia e dorme come un leone e come una leonessa che nessuno oserà svegliare. Chi ti benedirà sarà benedetto e compreso nella maledizione chi ti maledirà ».
10 Balak flew into a rage with Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to Balaam, 'I brought youto curse my enemies, and you have insisted on blessing them three times over!	10 Ma Balac, sdegnatosi contro Balam, disse, battendo le mani: « Ti ho chiamato a maledire i miei nemici, e tu invece li hai benedetti tre volte!
11 So now go home as fast as your legs can carry you. I promised to load you with honours. Yahwehhimself has deprived you of them.'	11 Torna casa tua. M'ero proposto di colmarti d'onori; ma il Signore ti ha privato dei preparati onori ».
12 Balaam retorted to Balak, 'Did I not tel the messengers you sent me,	12 Balaam rispose a Balac: « E non lo dissi ai messaggeri che mi mandasti:
13 "Even if Balak gave me his house ful of gold and silver I could not go against Yahweh's order anddo anything of my own accord, whether for good or il ; whatever Yahweh says is what I shal say"?	13 Quand'anche mi desse Balac la sua casa piena d'argento e d'oro, non potrei trasgredire l'ordine del Signore Dio mio, per far di mia testa qualche cosa di bene o di male; ma dirò tutto quello che avrà detto il Signore?
14 Now that I am going back to my own folk, let me warn you what this people wil do to your people, indays to come.'	14 Ebbene, torno al mio popolo; ma avanti ti darò un consiglio su ciò che il tuo popolo deve fare a questo popolo negli ultimi tempi ».
15 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,	15 Presa adunque la parabola di nuovo, disse: « Parola di Balaam figlio di Beor; parola dell'uomo dall'occhio chiuso;
16 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, of one who knows the knowledge of the MostHigh. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receives the divine answer, and his eyes are opened.	16 parola di colui che ode le parole di Dio, che conosce la dottrina dell'Altissimo, e contempla le visioni dell'Onnipotente, che cadendo ha gli occhi aperti.
17 I see him -- but not in the present. I perceive him -- but not close at hand: a star is emerging fromJacob, a sceptre is rising from Israel, to strike the brow of Moab, the skul s of al the children of Seth.	17 Io lo vedrò, ma non ora: lo contemplerò, ma non da vicino: UNA STELLA NÀSCERÀ da Giacobbe, e una verga si leverà da Israele, e percuoterà i capi di Moab, e rovinerà tutti i figli di Set.
18 Edom too wil be a conquered land, Seir too wil be a conquered land, when Israel exerts hisstrength,	18 E l'Idumea sarà suo possesso, l'eredità di Seir pas? serà ai suoi nemici, ma Israele agirà con fortezza.
19 when Jacob tramples on his enemies and destroys the last survivors of Ar.	19 Da Giacobbe uscirà il dominatore che sterminerà gli avanzi della città ».
20 Balaam then looked at Amalek and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Amalek, the earliest of nations!But his posterity wil perish forever.	20 E avendo visto Amalec, prese la parabola e disse: « Amalec è la prima delle nazioni; ma finirà collo sterminio ».
21 He then looked at the Kenites and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Your dwel ing was firm, Kain,your nest perched high in the rock.	21 E visto anche il Cineo, prese la parabola e disse: « La tua dimora è veramente solida, ma sebbene tu abbia posto il tuo nido nella, rupe asia stato l'eletto della stirpe di Cin, quanto tempo potrai sussistere? Assur ti prenderà ».
22 But the nest belongs to Beor; how long wil you be Asshur's captive?	22 E presa la parabola, disse ancora: « Ahi! chi sarà vivo quando Dio farà queste cose? sverranno sulle triremi dall'Italia: vinceranno gli Assiri, devasteranno gli Ebrei, e alla fine periranno anch'essi ».
23 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The Sea-people are gathering in the north,	23 E Balaam si alzò e tornò a casa sua; ed anche Balac se ne andò per la strada per cui era venuto.
24 the vessels from the coasts of Kittim. They wil bear down on Asshur, bear down on Eber; he too willperish forever.
25 Balaam then got up, left and went home, and Balak too went his way.
