NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Balaam then saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel. He did not go as before to seek omens butturned towards the desert.	1 Balaam vide che al Signore piaceva benedire Israele e non andò come le altre volte alla ricerca di sortilegi, ma rivolse la sua faccia verso il deserto.
2 Raising his eyes Balaam saw Israel settled tribe by tribe; the spirit of God came on him	2 Balaam alzò gli occhi e vide Israele accampato, tribù per tribù. Allora lo spirito di Dio fu sopra di lui.
3 and he declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,	3 Egli pronunciò il suo poema e disse: «Oracolo di Balaam, figlio di Beor, e oracolo dell’uomo dall’occhio penetrante;
4 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receivesthe divine answer, and his eyes are opened.	4 oracolo di chi ode le parole di Dio, di chi vede la visione dell’Onnipotente, cade e gli è tolto il velo dagli occhi.
5 How fair your tents are, Jacob, how fair your dwel ings, Israel,	5 Come sono belle le tue tende, Giacobbe, le tue dimore, Israele!
6 like val eys that stretch afar, like gardens by the banks of a river, like aloes planted by Yahweh, likecedars beside the waters!	6 Si estendono come vallate, come giardini lungo un fiume, come àloe, che il Signore ha piantato, come cedri lungo le acque.
7 A hero arises from their stock, he reigns over countless peoples. His king is greater than Agag, andhis kingship held in honour.	7 Fluiranno acque dalle sue secchie e il suo seme come acque copiose. Il suo re sarà più grande di Agag e il suo regno sarà esaltato.
8 God has brought him out of Egypt, is like the wild ox's horns to him. He devours the corpses of hisenemies, breaking their bones, piercing them with his arrows.	8 Dio, che lo ha fatto uscire dall’Egitto, è per lui come le corna del bufalo. Egli divora le nazioni che lo avversano, addenta le loro ossa e le loro frecce egli spezza.
9 He has crouched, he has lain down, like a lion, like a lioness; who dare rouse him? Blessed be thosewho bless you, and accursed be those who curse you!	9 Si accoscia, si accovaccia come un leone e come una leonessa: chi lo farà alzare? Benedetto chi ti benedice e maledetto chi ti maledice».
10 Balak flew into a rage with Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to Balaam, 'I brought youto curse my enemies, and you have insisted on blessing them three times over!	10 Allora l’ira di Balak si accese contro Balaam; Balak batté le mani e disse a Balaam: «Per maledire i miei nemici ti ho chiamato, ed ecco li hai grandemente benedetti per tre volte.
11 So now go home as fast as your legs can carry you. I promised to load you with honours. Yahwehhimself has deprived you of them.'	11 Ora vattene nella tua terra! Avevo detto che ti avrei colmato di onori, ma ecco, il Signore ti ha impedito di averli».
12 Balaam retorted to Balak, 'Did I not tel the messengers you sent me,	12 Balaam disse a Balak: «Non avevo forse detto ai messaggeri che mi avevi mandato:
13 "Even if Balak gave me his house ful of gold and silver I could not go against Yahweh's order anddo anything of my own accord, whether for good or il ; whatever Yahweh says is what I shal say"?	13 “Quand’anche Balak mi desse la sua casa piena d’argento e d’oro, non potrei trasgredire l’ordine del Signore per fare cosa, buona o cattiva, di mia iniziativa: ciò che il Signore dirà, quello soltanto dirò”?
14 Now that I am going back to my own folk, let me warn you what this people wil do to your people, indays to come.'	14 Ora sto per tornare al mio popolo; ebbene, vieni: ti predirò ciò che questo popolo farà al tuo popolo nei giorni a venire».
15 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,	15 Egli pronunciò il suo poema e disse: «Oracolo di Balaam, figlio di Beor, oracolo dell’uomo dall’occhio penetrante,
16 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, of one who knows the knowledge of the MostHigh. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receives the divine answer, and his eyes are opened.	16 oracolo di chi ode le parole di Dio e conosce la scienza dell’Altissimo, di chi vede la visione dell’Onnipotente, cade e gli è tolto il velo dagli occhi.
17 I see him -- but not in the present. I perceive him -- but not close at hand: a star is emerging fromJacob, a sceptre is rising from Israel, to strike the brow of Moab, the skul s of al the children of Seth.	17 Io lo vedo, ma non ora, io lo contemplo, ma non da vicino: una stella spunta da Giacobbe e uno scettro sorge da Israele, spacca le tempie di Moab e il cranio di tutti i figli di Set;
18 Edom too wil be a conquered land, Seir too wil be a conquered land, when Israel exerts hisstrength,	18 Edom diverrà sua conquista e diverrà sua conquista Seir, suo nemico, mentre Israele compirà prodezze.
19 when Jacob tramples on his enemies and destroys the last survivors of Ar.	19 Uno di Giacobbe dominerà e farà perire gli scampati dalla città».
20 Balaam then looked at Amalek and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Amalek, the earliest of nations!But his posterity wil perish forever.	20 Poi vide Amalèk, pronunciò il suo poema e disse: «Amalèk è la prima delle nazioni, ma il suo avvenire sarà la rovina».
21 He then looked at the Kenites and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Your dwel ing was firm, Kain,your nest perched high in the rock.	21 Poi vide i Keniti, pronunciò il suo poema e disse: «Sicura è la tua dimora, o Caino, e il tuo nido è aggrappato alla roccia.
22 But the nest belongs to Beor; how long wil you be Asshur's captive?	22 Ma sarà dato all’incendio, finché Assur non ti deporterà in prigionia».
23 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The Sea-people are gathering in the north,	23 Pronunciò ancora il suo poema e disse: «Ahimè! Chi vivrà, dopo che Dio avrà compiuto queste cose?
24 the vessels from the coasts of Kittim. They wil bear down on Asshur, bear down on Eber; he too willperish forever.	24 Verranno navi dalla parte dei Chittìm e piegheranno Assur e piegheranno Eber, ma anch’egli andrà in perdizione».
25 Balaam then got up, left and went home, and Balak too went his way.	25 Poi Balaam si alzò e tornò nella sua terra, mentre Balak se ne andò per la sua strada.
