1 Now Korah son of Izhar, son of Kohath the Levite, and the Reubenites Dathan and Abiram sons ofEliab, and On son of Peleth were proud	1 Allora Core figliuolo di Isaar figliuolo di Caath figliuolo di Levi, e Dathan e Abironfigliuoli di Eliab, e Hon figliuolo di Pheleth della stirpe di Ruben
2 and rebel ed against Moses with two hundred and fifty Israelites who were leaders of the community,prominent at the solemn feasts, men of repute.	2 Si levaron su contro Mosè insieme con altri dugento cinquanta figliuoli d'Israele de' piùillustri della sinagoga, e i quali in occasion di adunanze erano nominatamente invitati.
3 These banded together against Moses and Aaron and said to them, 'You take too much onyourselves! The whole community, al its members, are consecrated, and Yahweh lives among them. Why setyourselves higher than Yahweh's community?'	3 E portatisi al cospetto di Mosè e di Aronne, dissero: Contentatevi un poco, conciossiachéquesto è un popolo tutto di santi; e con essi si sta il Signore: con qual titolo v'inalzatevoi sopra il popolo del Signore?
4 On hearing this, Moses threw himself on his face.	4 Udita tal cosa, Mosè si prostrò boccone per terra:
5 Then he said to Korah and al in his party, 'Tomorrow morning Yahweh wil reveal who is his, who theconsecrated man whom he wil al ow to approach him. The one he al ows to approach is the one whom he haschosen.	5 E disse a Core, e a tutta quella gente: Domani il Signore farà manifesto, chi sien quelliche son suoi, e chiamerà a sé que' che son santi: e si appresseranno a lui quei ch'egli avràeletti.
6 This is what you must do: take the censers of Korah and al in his party,	6 Fate adunque così: Prenda ciascuno il sua turibolo, tu, Core, e tutta la tua sequela:
7 put fire in them and put incense in them before Yahweh tomorrow, and the one whom Yahwehchooses wil be the consecrated man. Levites, you take too much on yourselves!'	7 E domani, messovi il fuoco, ponetevi sopra l'incenso dinanzi al Signore: e chiunque da luisarà eletto, quegli sarà santo: voi v'inalberate assai, o figliuoli di Levi.
8 Moses then said to Korah, 'Now listen, you Levites!	8 E disse di più a Core: Figliuoli di Levi, udite:
9 Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has singled you out of the community of Israel, andcal ed you to be near him, to serve in Yahweh's Dwel ing and to represent the community by officiating on itsbehalf?	9 È egli poco per voi l'avervi il Dio d'Israele separati da tutto il popolo, e uniti a sé,affinché lo serviste nel culto del tabernacolo, e steste dinanzi alla moltitudine delpopolo, esercitando il suo ministero?
10 He has cal ed you to be near him, you and al your brother Levites with you, and now you want to bepriests as wel !	10 A questo fine ha egli fatto accostare a sé e te, e tutti i tuoi fratelli figliuoli di Levi,affinché vi usurpiate anche il sacerdozio,
11 For which reason, you and al in your party have banded together against Yahweh himself: for whatis Aaron, that you should mutter against him?'	11 E perché tutta la tua sequela si metta in battaglia contro il Signore? che è egli Aronne,che vi mettiate a mormorare contro di lui?
12 Moses then summoned Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab. They replied, 'We wil not come.	12 Mandò adunque Mosè a chiamare Dathan e Abiron figliuoli di Eliab. I quali risposero: Noi nonvenghiamo:
13 Is it not enough for you to have brought us away from a country flowing with milk and honey to kil usin the desert, without your making yourself our absolute ruler?	13 Ti par forse poco l'averci levati da una terra, che scorre latte e miele, per ammazzarci neldeserto, se di più non ci tiranneggi?
14 What is more, you have not brought us to a country flowing with milk and honey and you have notgiven us fields and vineyards for our heritage. Do you think you can hoodwink these people? We wil not come.'	14 Veramente tu ci hai condotti in una terra, che scorre latte e miele, e ci hai date delletenute di campi, e di vigne: vuoi tu ancora cavarci gli occhi? noi non venghiamo.
15 Moses flew into a rage and said to Yahweh, 'Disregard their cereal offering! I have not taken somuch as a donkey from them, nor have I wronged any of them.'	15 E sdegnato forte Mosè disse al Signore: Non volgere gli occhi a' loro sacrifizii: tu sai,com'io non ho mai preso da costoro neppur un asinello, e non ho fatto torto ad alcuno diessi.
16 Moses said to Korah, 'You and all your party, come before Yahweh tomorrow, you and they, andAaron too.	16 E disse a Core: Tu, e tutta la tua sequela state da una parte dinanzi al Signore, ed Aronnedomani dall'altra parte:
17 Each wil take his censer, put incense in it, and bring his censer before Yahweh -- two hundred andfifty censers. You and Aaron too wil each bring his censer.'	17 Pigliate ciascuno i vostri turiboli, e mettetevi sopra l'incenso, offrendo al Signoredugento cinquanta turiboli: Aronne parimente avrà il suo turibolo.
18 Each of them took his censer, put fire in it and placed incense on it, and stood at the entrance to theTent of Meeting with Moses and Aaron.	18 E quelli avendo fatto questo alla presenza di Mosè e di Aronne,
19 Then, Korah having assembled the whole community to confront them at the entrance to the Tent ofMeeting, the glory of Yahweh appeared to the whole community.	19 E avendo raunato in folla tutta la moltitudine all'ingresso del tabernacolo, si fece a tuttivedere la gloria del Signore.
20 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said,	20 E il Signore parlò a Mosè e ad Aronne, e disse:
21 'Get away from this community. I am going to destroy them here and now.'	21 Segregatevi da quest'adunanza, affinché io tutti a un tratto li disperga.
22 They threw themselves on their faces and cried out, 'O God, God of the spirits that give life to everyliving thing, wil you be angry with the whole community because one man has sinned?'	22 Si prostraron questi boccone per terra, e dissero: Fortissimo Dio degli spiriti di tutti gliuomini, infierirebb'ella mai l'ira tua contro di tutti pel peccato di un solo?
23 Yahweh then said to Moses,	23 E il Signore disse a Mosè:
24 'Speak to the community and say, "Stand wel clear of Korah's tent." '	24 Comanda a tutto il popolo, che si separi dalle tende di Core, di Dathan, e di Abiron.
25 Moses stood up and went to Dathan and Abiram; the elders of Israel fol owed him.	25 E Mosè si alzò, e andò a trovare Dathan e Abiron: e seguendolo i seniori d'Israele,
26 He spoke to the community and said, 'Stand away, I tel you, from the tents of these sinners, andtouch nothing that belongs to them, for fear that with all their sins you too wil be swept away.'	26 E disse al popolo: Ritiratevi dalle tende degli uomini empii, e non toccate nissuna dellecose loro per non essere a parte de' loro peccati.
27 So they moved away from Korah's tent. Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing attheir tent doors, with their wives, their sons and their little ones.	27 E ritiratosi il popolo d'intorno alle tende di quelli, Dathan e Abiron vennero a porsiall'ingresso dei loro padiglioni insieme colle mogli, e co' figliuoli, e con tutti icompagni.
28 Moses said, 'This is how you will know that Yahweh himself has sent me to perform al these tasksand that I am not doing them of my own accord.	28 E Mosè disse: Da questo voi conoscerete, come il Signore mi ha mandato a fare tutte quellecose, che avete veduto, e come io non le ho cavate dalla mia testa:
29 If these people die a natural death such as people commonly die, then Yahweh has not sent me.	29 Se costoro morranno di morte ordinaria tra gli uomini, e saran visitati da un flagello, dalquale anche gli altri soglion essere visitati, il Signore non mi ha mandato:
30 But if Yahweh does something utterly new, if the earth should open its mouth and swal ow them andal their belongings, so that they go down alive to Sheol, then you wil know that they held Yahweh in contempt.'	30 Ma se il Signore fa cosa si nuova, che aprendo la terra la sua bocca divori costoro, e tuttele cose loro, e che vivi scendano nell'inferno, voi conoscerete, che hanno bestemmiato ilSignore.
31 The moment he finished saying all this, the ground split apart under their feet,	31 E appena ebbe finito di dire, che spaccatasi la terra sotto i piedi di coloro,
32 the earth opened its mouth and swal owed them, their families, all Korah's people and al theirproperty.	32 E spalancata la sua bocca, li divorò insieme colle tende, e con tutte le cose loro:
33 They went down alive to Sheol with al their belongings. The earth closed over them and theydisappeared in the middle of the community.	33 E ricoperti dalla terra sceser vivi all'inferno, e perirono in mezzo alla moltitudine.
34 At their cries, all the Israelites round them took to their heels, saying, 'We do not want the earth toswal ow us too!'	34 Ma tutto Israele, che stava all'intorno, alle strida di que' che perivano, si diede allafuga, dicendo: Che noi pure non c'ingoi la terra.
35 Fire then shot out from Yahweh and consumed the two hundred and fifty men offering incense.	35 È oltre a questo un fuoco spedito dal Signore uccise i dugento cinquanta uomini, cheofferivan l'incenso.
	36 E il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse:
	37 Ordina ad Eleazaro sacerdote figliuolo di Aronne, che prenda i turiboli sparsi in mezzoall'incendio, e disperga qua e là il fuoco: perocché quegli sono consacrati
	38 Per la morte de' peccatori; ed egli li riduca in lame, e li conficchi all'altare, perché inessi fu offerto incenso al Signore, onde rimasero consacrati, affinché i figliuoli d'Israeleli tengano innanzi agli occhi come un segno, e monumento.
	39 Prese adunque Eleazaro sacerdote i turiboli di bronzo, de' quali si eran serviti coloro, cheerano stati divorati dall'incendio, e li tirò in lame, e le affisse all'altare:
	40 Affinché in appresso servissero a' figliuoli d'Israele di documento, perché nissunoestraneo, e che non sia della stirpe di Aronne, si accosti ad offerir l'incenso al Signore,affinché non abbia a soffrire quello che soffrì Core, e tutta la sua sequela, secondo laparola del Signore a Mosè.
	41 Ma il dì seguente mormorava tutta la turba de' figliuoli d'Israele contro Mosè ed Aronne,dicendo: Voi avete fatto morire la gente del Signore.
	42 E pigliando piede la sedizione, e crescendo il tumulto,
	43 Mosè ed Aronne si fuggirono nel tabernacolo dell'alleanza. E quando vi furono entrati, lanuvola lo ricoperse, e apparve la gloria del Signore.
	44 E il Signore disse a Mosè.
	45 Toglietevi di mezzo a questa moltitudine, or ora io gli sterminerò. E stando quelliprostrati per terra,
	46 Disse Mosè ad Aronne: Prendi il turibolo, e messovi del fuoco dell'altare, ponvi sopral'incenso, e va' subito a trovare il popolo per far orazione per lui: imperocché il Signoreha già sciolto il freno all'ira sua, e il flagello infierisce.
	47 E Aronne avendo ciò fatto, ed essendo corso nel mezzo alla moltitudine, che era già desolatadall'incendio, offerse i timiami:
	48 E stando di mezzo tra i morti e i vivi, pregò pel popolo, e il flagello cessò.
	49 E gli uccisi furono quattordicimila settecento uomini senza quelli che perirono nellasedizione di Core.
	50 E Aronne ritornò da Mosè alla porta del tabernacolo dell'alleanza, finito che fu losterminio.
