NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Now Korah son of Izhar, son of Kohath the Levite, and the Reubenites Dathan and Abiram sons ofEliab, and On son of Peleth were proud	1 Coré, fils de Yiçhar, fils de Qehat, fils de Lévi, Datân et Abiram, fils d'Eliab, et On, fils de Pélèt(Eliab et Pélèt étaient fils de Ruben) furent orgueilleux;
2 and rebel ed against Moses with two hundred and fifty Israelites who were leaders of the community,prominent at the solemn feasts, men of repute.	2 ils se dressèrent contre Moïse, ainsi que 250 des Israélites, princes de la communauté, considérésdans les solennités, hommes de renom.
3 These banded together against Moses and Aaron and said to them, 'You take too much onyourselves! The whole community, al its members, are consecrated, and Yahweh lives among them. Why setyourselves higher than Yahweh's community?'	3 Ils s'attroupèrent alors contre Moïse et Aaron en leur disant: "Vous passez la mesure! C'est toutela communauté, ce sont tous ses membres qui sont consacrés, et Yahvé est au milieu d'eux. Pourquoi vousélevez-vous au-dessus de la communauté de Yahvé?"
4 On hearing this, Moses threw himself on his face.	4 Moïse, l'ayant entendu, tomba face contre terre.
5 Then he said to Korah and al in his party, 'Tomorrow morning Yahweh wil reveal who is his, who theconsecrated man whom he wil al ow to approach him. The one he al ows to approach is the one whom he haschosen.	5 Puis il dit à Coré et à tout son groupe: "Demain matin, Yahvé fera connaître qui est à lui, qui estl'homme consacré qu'il laissera approcher de lui. Celui qu'il fera approcher de lui, c'est celui-là qu'il choisit.
6 This is what you must do: take the censers of Korah and al in his party,	6 Voici ce que vous ferez: prenez les encensoirs de Coré et de tout son groupe,
7 put fire in them and put incense in them before Yahweh tomorrow, and the one whom Yahwehchooses wil be the consecrated man. Levites, you take too much on yourselves!'	7 mettez-y du feu et, demain, déposez dessus de l'encens devant Yahvé. Celui que choisira Yahvé,c'est lui l'homme consacré. Vous passez la mesure, fils de Lévi!"
8 Moses then said to Korah, 'Now listen, you Levites!	8 Moïse dit à Coré: "Ecoutez donc, fils de Lévi!
9 Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has singled you out of the community of Israel, andcal ed you to be near him, to serve in Yahweh's Dwel ing and to represent the community by officiating on itsbehalf?	9 Est-ce trop peu pour vous que le Dieu d'Israël vous ait distingués de la communauté d'Israël, vousappelant auprès de lui pour faire le service de la Demeure de Yahvé, vous plaçant en face de cette communautéquand vous officiez pour elle?
10 He has cal ed you to be near him, you and al your brother Levites with you, and now you want to bepriests as wel !	10 Il t'a appelé auprès de lui, toi et avec toi tous tes frères les Lévites, et vous voulez en plus êtreprêtres!
11 For which reason, you and al in your party have banded together against Yahweh himself: for whatis Aaron, that you should mutter against him?'	11 C'est donc contre Yahvé que vous vous êtes ligués, toi et ton groupe: qu'est donc Aaron, pourque vous murmuriez contre lui?"
12 Moses then summoned Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab. They replied, 'We wil not come.	12 Moïse envoya appeler Datân et Abiram, fils d'Eliab. Ils répondirent: "Nous ne viendrons pas.
13 Is it not enough for you to have brought us away from a country flowing with milk and honey to kil usin the desert, without your making yourself our absolute ruler?	13 N'est-ce pas assez de nous avoir fait quitter une terre qui ruisselle de lait et de miel pour nousfaire mourir en ce désert, que tu veuilles encore t'ériger en prince sur nous?
14 What is more, you have not brought us to a country flowing with milk and honey and you have notgiven us fields and vineyards for our heritage. Do you think you can hoodwink these people? We wil not come.'	14 Ah! ce n'est pas une terre qui ruisselle de lait et de miel où tu nous as conduits, et tu ne nous aspas donné en héritage champs et vergers! Penses-tu rendre ces gens aveugles? Nous ne viendrons pas."
15 Moses flew into a rage and said to Yahweh, 'Disregard their cereal offering! I have not taken somuch as a donkey from them, nor have I wronged any of them.'	15 Moïse entra dans une violente colère, et il dit à Yahvé: "Ne prends pas garde à leur oblation. Jene leur ai pas pris un âne, et je n'ai fait de tort à aucun d'eux."
16 Moses said to Korah, 'You and all your party, come before Yahweh tomorrow, you and they, andAaron too.	16 Moïse dit à Coré: "Toi et tout ton groupe, venez demain vous mettre en présence de Yahvé, toiet eux, ainsi qu'Aaron.
17 Each wil take his censer, put incense in it, and bring his censer before Yahweh -- two hundred andfifty censers. You and Aaron too wil each bring his censer.'	17 Que chacun prenne son encensoir, y mette de l'encens, et que chacun apporte son encensoirdevant Yahvé -- 250 encensoirs. Toi et Aaron aussi, apportez chacun votre encensoir."
18 Each of them took his censer, put fire in it and placed incense on it, and stood at the entrance to theTent of Meeting with Moses and Aaron.	18 Chacun prit son encensoir, y mit du feu et déposa de l'encens par-dessus. Puis ils se tinrent àl'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous, ainsi que Moïse et Aaron.
19 Then, Korah having assembled the whole community to confront them at the entrance to the Tent ofMeeting, the glory of Yahweh appeared to the whole community.	19 Coré rassembla en face de ces derniers toute la communauté à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous, et la gloire de Yahvé apparut à toute la communauté.
20 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said,	20 Yahvé parla à Moïse et à Aaron. Il dit:
21 'Get away from this community. I am going to destroy them here and now.'	21 "Séparez-vous de cette communauté, je vais la détruire en un instant."
22 They threw themselves on their faces and cried out, 'O God, God of the spirits that give life to everyliving thing, wil you be angry with the whole community because one man has sinned?'	22 Ils tombèrent la face contre terre et s'écrièrent: "O Dieu, Dieu des esprits qui animent toutechair, vas-tu t'irriter contre toute la communauté quand un seul pèche?"
23 Yahweh then said to Moses,	23 Yahvé parla à Moïse et dit:
24 'Speak to the community and say, "Stand wel clear of Korah's tent." '	24 Parle à cette communauté et dis: "Eloignez-vous de la demeure de Coré."
25 Moses stood up and went to Dathan and Abiram; the elders of Israel fol owed him.	25 Moïse se leva et s'en vint auprès de Datân et Abiram; les anciens d'Israël le suivirent.
26 He spoke to the community and said, 'Stand away, I tel you, from the tents of these sinners, andtouch nothing that belongs to them, for fear that with all their sins you too wil be swept away.'	26 Il parla à la communauté et dit: "De grâce, écartez-vous des tentes de ces hommes pervers, et netouchez à rien de ce qui leur appartient, de peur que tous leurs péchés ne vous emportent."
27 So they moved away from Korah's tent. Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing attheir tent doors, with their wives, their sons and their little ones.	27 Ils s'écartèrent des alentours de la maison de Coré. Datân et Abiram étaient sortis et setrouvaient à l'entrée de leurs tentes, avec leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs jeunes enfants.
28 Moses said, 'This is how you will know that Yahweh himself has sent me to perform al these tasksand that I am not doing them of my own accord.	28 Moïse dit: "A ceci vous saurez que c'est Yahvé qui m'a envoyé pour accomplir toutes cesoeuvres, et que je ne les fais pas de mon propre chef:
29 If these people die a natural death such as people commonly die, then Yahweh has not sent me.	29 si ces gens meurent de mort naturelle, atteints par la sentence commune à tous les hommes, c'estque Yahvé ne m'a pas envoyé.
30 But if Yahweh does something utterly new, if the earth should open its mouth and swal ow them andal their belongings, so that they go down alive to Sheol, then you wil know that they held Yahweh in contempt.'	30 Mais si Yahvé fait quelque chose d'inouï, si la terre ouvre sa bouche et les engloutit, eux et toutce qui leur appartient, et qu'ils descendent vivants au shéol, vous saurez que ces gens ont rejeté Yahvé."
31 The moment he finished saying all this, the ground split apart under their feet,	31 Comme il achevait de prononcer toutes ces paroles, le sol se fendit sous leurs pieds,
32 the earth opened its mouth and swal owed them, their families, all Korah's people and al theirproperty.	32 la terre ouvrit sa bouche et les engloutit, eux et leurs familles, ainsi que tous les hommes deCoré et tous ses biens.
33 They went down alive to Sheol with al their belongings. The earth closed over them and theydisappeared in the middle of the community.	33 Ils descendirent vivants au shéol, eux et tout ce qui leur appartenait. La terre les recouvrit et ilsdisparurent du milieu de l'assemblée.
34 At their cries, all the Israelites round them took to their heels, saying, 'We do not want the earth toswal ow us too!'	34 A leurs cris, tous les Israélites qui se trouvaient autour d'eux s'enfuirent. Car ils se disaient:"Que la terre ne nous engloutisse pas!"
35 Fire then shot out from Yahweh and consumed the two hundred and fifty men offering incense.	35 Un feu jaillit de Yahvé, qui consuma les 250 hommes porteurs d'encens.
