Jonah 3

NEW JERUSALEM	EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL
1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to Jonah a second time.	1 Das Wort des Herrn erging zum zweiten Mal an Jona:
2 'Up!' he said, 'Go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach to it as I shal tel you.'	2 Mach dich auf den Weg und geh nach Ninive, in die große Stadt, und droh ihr all das an, was ich dir sagen werde.
3 Jonah set out and went to Nineveh in obedience to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was a city greatbeyond compare; to cross it took three days.	3 Jona machte sich auf den Weg und ging nach Ninive, wie der Herr es ihm befohlen hatte. Ninive war eine große Stadt vor Gott; man brauchte drei Tage, um sie zu durchqueren.
4 Jonah began by going a day's journey into the city and then proclaimed, 'Only forty days more andNineveh will be overthrown.'	4 Jona begann, in die Stadt hineinzugehen; er ging einen Tag lang und rief: Noch vierzig Tage und Ninive ist zerstört!
5 And the people of Nineveh believed in God; they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from thegreatest to the least.	5 Und die Leute von Ninive glaubten Gott. Sie riefen ein Fasten aus und alle, Groß und Klein, zogen Bußgewänder an.
6 When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his robe, put on sackclothand sat down in ashes.	6 Als die Nachricht davon den König von Ninive erreichte, stand er von seinem Thron auf, legte seinen Königsmantel ab, hüllte sich in ein Bußgewand und setzte sich in die Asche.
7 He then had it proclaimed throughout Nineveh, by decree of the king and his nobles, as fol ows: 'Noperson or animal, herd or flock, may eat anything; they may not graze, they may not drink any water.	7 Er ließ in Ninive ausrufen: Befehl des Königs und seiner Großen: Alle Menschen und Tiere, Rinder, Schafe und Ziegen, sollen nichts essen, nicht weiden und kein Wasser trinken.
8 All must put on sackcloth and cal on God with al their might; and let everyone renounce his evil waysand violent behaviour.	8 Sie sollen sich in Bußgewänder hüllen, Menschen und Tiere. Sie sollen laut zu Gott rufen und jeder soll umkehren und sich von seinen bösen Taten abwenden und von dem Unrecht, das an seinen Händen klebt.
9 Who knows? Perhaps God wil change his mind and relent and renounce his burning wrath, so that weshall not perish.'	9 Wer weiß, vielleicht reut es Gott wieder und er lässt ab von seinem glühenden Zorn, sodass wir nicht zugrunde gehen.
10 God saw their efforts to renounce their evil ways. And God relented about the disaster which he hadthreatened to bring on them, and did not bring it.	10 Und Gott sah ihr Verhalten; er sah, dass sie umkehrten und sich von ihren bösen Taten abwandten. Da reute Gott das Unheil, das er ihnen angedroht hatte, und er führte die Drohung nicht aus.
