Ephraim besieges me with lying, the House of Israel with duplicity. (But Judah stil is on God's side, heis faithful to the Holy One.)1 Ephraim feeds on wind and follows burning heat; all day long he multiplies lies and desolation. And he has entered into a pact with the Assyrians, and he has carried oil into Egypt.
Ephraim feeds himself on wind, all day he chases the wind from the East, he heaps up cheating andviolence; they make a treaty with Assyria, at the same time sending oil to Egypt.2 Therefore, the judgment of the Lord is with Judah and a visitation is upon Jacob. He will repay him according to his ways and according to his inventions.
Yahweh has a case against Judah, he will punish Jacob as his conduct merits, he will repay him as hisdeeds deserve.3 In the womb, he supplanted his brother; for in his good fortune, he had been guided by an angel.
In the very womb he overreached his brother, in maturity he wrestled against God.4 And he prevailed over an angel, for he had been strengthened. He wept and petitioned him. He found him in Bethel, and there he has spoken to us.
He wrestled with the angel and beat him, he wept and pleaded with him. He met him at Bethel andthere God spoke to us-5 And the Lord God of hosts, the Lord is his memorial.
yes, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, Yahweh is his title!6 And so, you should convert to your God. Keep mercy and judgment, and have hope in your God always.
So turn back with God's help, maintain faithful love and loyalty and always put your trust in your God.7 Canaan, in his hand is a deceitful balance, he has chosen false accusations.
Merchants use fraudulent scales. To defraud is his delight.8 And Ephraim has said, “Nevertheless, I have become rich; I have found an idol for myself. All of my labors will not reveal to me the iniquity that I have committed.”
'How rich I have become!' says Ephraim, 'I have made a fortune.' But of al his gains he wil keepnothing because of the sin of which he is guilty.9 And I, the Lord your God from the land of Egypt, nevertheless will cause you to dwell in tabernacles, just as during the days of the feast.
But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt and will make you live in tents again asin the days of Meeting.10 And I have spoken through the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and I have used parables through the hands of the prophets.
I will speak through prophets, I will give vision after vision and through the ministry of prophets wilspeak in parables.11 If Gilead is an idol, then they have been sacrificing cattle in Gilgal to no purpose. For even their altars are like clutter on the soil of the field.
Is Gilead a sink of iniquity? Yes, they are a worthless lot! At Gilgal they sacrifice to bulls, that is whytheir altars are like heaps of stones in a ploughed field.12 Jacob fled into the region of Syria, and Israel served like a wife, and was served by a wife.
Jacob fled to the countryside of Aram, Israel slaved to win a wife, to win a wife he looked after sheep.13 Yet by a prophet the Lord led Israel out of Egypt, and he was served by a prophet.
By a prophet Yahweh brought Israel out of Egypt and by a prophet Israel was preserved.14 Ephraim has provoked me to wrath with his bitterness, and his blood will overcome him, and his Lord will requite him for his shamefulness.
Ephraim gave bitter provocation- Yahweh will bring his bloodshed down on him, his Lord wil repayhim for his insult.
